Porter Robinson is an American DJ and electronic musician. He started out as a pretty typical EDM DJ in the early 2010s, but in 2014 he came out with the album "Worlds," which is still beloved in the electronic music community today and was so influential it really changed the whole genre. His most popular song is probably "Shelter," a collab with his friend and fellow electronic musician Madeon. The music video was an anime short film animated by A-1 Pictures. He followed up with the albums "Nurture" in 2021 and "SMILE! :D" in 2024. While he's radically changed up his sound with each album (much like twenty one pilots), he draws his musical influence mostly from anime, video game soundtracks (particularly Nintendo), J-rock, and other Japanese music. More recently, he's also begun singing on his own songs after only producing instrumental DJ tracks.

For me personally, I've been a fan of his for ten years and have seen him in concert three times. He's a big name in a more niche genre, and I think why so many people like him is how he brings a very human element to a loud, dancey genre. During the Nurture tour, he played piano and sang onstage alongside electronic tracks, and during the SMILE! tour he played with a live band. Porter himself is also very genuine and earnest in his stage presence and lyricism, with emotional tracks that candidly tackle universal issues like love, loneliness, family, loss, self-doubt, mental health, nostalgia, and self-image. He's also just very funny; he games and livestreams occasionally on Twitch.
