I like how when you watch Squid Game season 2 the first time, Nam-gyu gives no important character energy. He's a lackey. He's there as one of Thanos' groupies, no more important than Gyeong-su (yes I see you there.) He plays the traditional role of bully working for the villain. This is a character you see all over in media. Think Draco and his sidekicks, Biff Tannin and his, the creeps surrounding Henry Bowers from It. it's just a super obvious trope and I think that's what Nam-gyu could easily be.

When you go back and rewatch the first games, you do notice him here and there. But that goes for a lot of characters that are at least semi-important and some that aren't (goodbye bee girl, RIP.) We get a (very cute) image of him freezing as people are being shot all around them.

And then some of him hiding behind 120 because he's a coward willing to take shelter behind a chick.

They're very quick shots and with all the characters we're seeing in this scene, he doesn't particularly stand out. You're supposed to be looking at 120, not the two dudes right behind her.

Then we get to the end of the game.

I definitely didn't notice him the first time.

The fact he's dead set in the middle makes me wonder if that means we're missing HOW important he is to the plot overall. He is right there, the first character to draw your eye, between 333 and 120 who, upon first watch, seem like much bigger characters. Sorry, babygirl, but it's true. You aren't really important until the last episode when you take your pedestal as the new big bad.

If you ask the average viewer to identify them, they'll probably be able to place 333 as the crypto bro that killed Thanos and 120 as the special forces trans chick who kicks ass and lost her friend, but Nam-gyu? Maybe they'll just be like, oh, Thanos' druggie sidekick, and call it a day.

But I can't stop dwelling over the fact that, not only is he included with these two characters, he is the center of it all. It would make more sense, thematically, for 120 to be in the center, she is the biggest character of the three. One of the most important in the season, really. But, no, it's Nam-gyu because...why?

Anyway, I really am looking forward to seeing what happens with him in season 3. I hope he gets a lot of angst and is even more insane than Thanos. I really, really hope he gets to stay until the very end and has some real screentime. I saw somebody saying that maybe he'll die by overdose instead of the games and yeah, that sounds appropriate, I'd be on board with that. I just hope he dies holding Thanos' cross.

Sidenote: I've seen people claiming he only has four pills left but he has five. You can see two blue ones beneath his thumb right before he takes the second one in this scene. If you're wondering, he takes first a red one then a yellow one.

What I find so amusing about Nam-gyu is how people perceive him. He's a drug addict and he has a shitty personality and he's a lackey, but he's also a club promoter so he in theory should be able to at least fake charisma. He did get Thanos to like him, after all, and who knows how real any of that personality was.

I've seen people describe him as looking greasy, slimy, like a rat, etc, but he's *constantly* smoothing his hair back and primping so he isn't just being lazy about his looks/hygiene, this is the way he wants to look. The fact he's shoving his hair behind his ears directly before his photo and then tries to do that tough guy look with his face turned up - that's how he wants to be perceived. He isn't just too lazy to style his hair, he didn't have to tuck it behind his ears for his photo, but he did.

That said, he does just play with his hair a lot even when he's not primping. I think it's a tic. Or a habit. Whatever. I used to suck on my hair as a kid and I do play with my hair a lot at work, so I relate to that. Pretty sure Nam-gyu does it just to have something to do with his hands. He's probably a smoker normally. That, and his thing where he's always playing with his hands. They're supposed to show us he's a junkie, he's fidgety, but instead of coming off as slimy it's just really cute.

Thinking about that scene I wrote in my first Thangyu fic where Nam-gyu was tripping and thought he had somehow turned Thanos' pubes black because he was high enough to think he'd have purple pubic hair. I wish somebody else had laughed as much as I did at that.

What if literally everyone in Dexter's life knew what he was and what he did but they were just like chill about it because it got the job done. The show is through Dexter's POV so imagine him being all oblivious about it with all this suspenseful music plays in his head as he's nearly caught over and over again and in reality Masuka is like just standing there in the doorway watching Dexter plant fake evidence. Then he's like oh, no, I just got here, and Dexter is like "Just as planned" *evil smile* And Masuka is just internally rolling his eyes like, working with autistic people can be a pain but at least he's good at his job.

Just in case any of you are confused, TikTok being banned and coming back not even 24 hours later with a giant "we thank President Trump" message is NOT a win. It's a huge red flag and a sign that this was a thousand percent planned.

I have no idea what I'm doing with this fic. It feels like more of a character analysis through ABO than a real story. I feel like I should make some structure of it. It would have made sense to tell a chapter from all of Team Thanos' POV but as of now I have Thanos, Min-su, and Nam-gyu. Considering Gyeong-su is about to get killed off, it'd make the most sense to do his before I don't have the chance, but then I'd have to go back to the beginning of the fic with him again. Which I could do but I feel like people are sick of flashbacks. I probably should have thought this out and had his chapter be chapter 2 and Min-su chapter 4 but this entire fic has really been more a series of one shots than an ongoing plot.

I dunno, I'll think about it.
