I want to ask you over. I want to watch you pull into the driveway and walk up the steps, bundled up nice and tight, ducking in from the wind. I want us to fall into the couch together for a movie, maybe something old, maybe something scary—or light candles and start dancing to a jazz record, only to collapse into laughter, tumbling to the floor and maybe staying there a bit, talking for a while. perhaps here my hands gravitate to yours. perhaps here you smile and play with a stray curl between your fingers. I want you to come over while I’m just finishing something warm to spoon into our bodies; a hearty stew or healing soup. I want to saw into a thick loaf of sourdough and hand you a slice. would you like some butter? in this vision I have, the evening has a way of never ending, but I leave it be after we look up to the windows and see that the wind has carried a snowdrift our way; a million flakes dancing just beyond the glass. you’re here. we’re warm. we’re safe. we turn back to the music.

With its powerful jaws and sharp teeth, the California sheephead is an incredible fish that can cut through the mightiest sea urchins and protect kelp forests!
Did we mention they also sleep in a mucus cocoon at night? 👀

Shoutout to the two coworkers today who casually announced that they were voting for Trump, then asked me who I was voting for. I told them "I did early voting, and I voted for the candidate who isn't going to make it harder for me to exist as a trans person" and both of these women had to awkwardly try and assure me that it wasn't personal, and it's not like they hated Harris or anything, they actually do like some things about her, and they definitely don't hate me, of course not, it's just that, you know, well, it's like, well, you know, it's just, like, and no matter how many times they tried to pass the shovel off to me, I just let them hold onto it

Okay, don't get me wrong here. I LOVE Jurassic Park. I love seeing their dinosaurs. But after watching Prehistoric Planet, and going back to look at this...
And then looking at this...
Notice how much healthier the second set looks? Their lips cover their teeth, they actually have fat on their bodies, their skin doesn't wrinkle like they're dehydrated. You can't see every single tendon and muscle move because you aren't supposed to. Dinosaurs are animals, not reptilian body-builders.
THIS is the kind of change I want to see in how we create realistic depictions of not only dinosaurs, but all prehistoric creatures. Paleoart has always had a huge issue with shrink-wrapping and making these animals look terrifying instead of making them look like, well, animals.
Well done, BBC.
