Dance Like No One Is Listening

Bird sighs for the air, Thought for I know not where, For the womb the seed sighs. Now sinks the same rest On mind, on nest, On straining thighs. The Lover's Song by William Butler Yeats

Need? Probably not. But want? I mean, there’s a reason most of the great artists focused on the human form– it’s beautiful, nothing wrong with that. I’m speaking, generally, of course, not just in regards to dancers and tights. That’s exciting, how long have you been dancing for again?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank you for finding my lower half beautiful... I do work hard to stay in shape and all... I’m a late bloomer I started training just before I was a preteen. Most start between three and five. How about you? Why singing?

Start The Fun || Josiah & Jude
It was rare for Jude to hang out with other guys because most of them assumed that because he danced he was gay. Sure, it was a ludicrous assumption to make but time and time again people assumed it. Comfortable in his skin and friends with plenty of non-heterosexual people, Jude was never phased by such comments. Still, it limited the friends he could make, which was already a problem when he was deaf and most people fled when they started getting signed at. Naturally, when Josiah said he’d hit up Energy to Spare with him on Friday the first thing he let Josiah on was his deafness.
When Jude turned up at the bowling alley he glanced at his watch, he was a little early and decided to go in. There wasn’t any sign of Josiah just yet so he went ahead and paid for a lane. The associate, who was clearly uncomfortable with him as he typed on the screen of his phone, Hi, one lane, please. Don’t need a ball or shoes, thanks. took his money and held up a hand with a wide spread four fingers lifted. He watched her mouth open dramatically wide as she mouthed the word, probably yelling it. Grimacing at another ignorant soul being ignorant, she then demanded to lead him to the lane which was clearly numbered.
Instead of beating himself up over how he should have probably forgiven her for her ignorance he opened his bowling bag and focused on the simplicity of lacing up bowling shoes. There was a comfort in the tight laces and the way they moved over the wood. Bowling was something he’d done nearly every weekend he made it home to his dads after his mom had taken him to Dublin from Belfast. Though there were plenty of other things to do, he assumed it was his fathers way of trying to draw him away from dance. Obviously, that hadn’t really worked out well, but it had created a bit of a hobby for him. Jude had been deep in thought about it as he polished his custom ball when Josiah had shown up.
Fumbling in his pockets he took out his phone and typed his greeting before pointing to the small table. He punched in a silly nickname, J-Fumbles, and gestured for Josiah to put in his own name. They passed messages back and forth via their phones, ordered beers and pizza, and cheered eachother on in ASL. It was a good time, pretty chill and it got Jude’s mind off of home and dance. Josiah was better than he let on, which led to Jude putting in a real effort, and creating a slight competition. They talked about fitness, boxing, might have even compared muscles a bit. As it turned out, Jude recognized him from MFC. For the first time, Jude felt like he might be making a friendship that wasn’t based on his deafness or career choice and that put a new bounce in his step.

I don’t, unfortunately. I wish I were talented enough to do it, but other than a few failed attempts, I’ve stuck with singing songs. That makes sense, I think most people are like that, though– hopefully I fit some of that bill when I sing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve written some bad poetry and song lyrics are really just modern poetry. I don’t talk let alone sing, definitely don’t play an instrument, so I guess I’d have to leave turning it into a song to a professional. I much prefer throwing my creativity and self expression into dance because it never needed talking. Have you ever had to do one of those themed weddings?

Men in tights are definitely my weakness– you’ve found me out. Alright sounds good. You must be getting ready for it soon, since you have a month and a half basically.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You’re just saying that, no one really needs or wants to see the outline of every muscle below my waist. Yeah, we audition soon, have a month or so of rehearsals, and then the show will be here.

Nothing wrong with that. If I was funny I’d probably do the same, too bad I’m usually a bore.
Tumblr media
Thank you. I never thought of it as cool, but I suppose my mother had a knack for coming up with unique names that weren’t overly ridiculous. It’s nice to meet you though Jude.
Tumblr media
I think everyone can have a laugh. You’re only ever a serious as you want to be and even then I don’t necessarily think that serious is boring. Nice to electronically meet you too. Are you from LA or are you new here or just to the site?

Ah, alright. I’d love to come, actually– I can’t remember the last time I’ve been to a ballet. And not really, I was just interested. I’m sure it’d be great either way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You really want to see me in tights that bad? I kid! When I’m allowed to tell, I’ll let you know. Next show is in October, not too far off.

I’m really nervous. What if I don’t do well?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, I say this from a tough love perspective because I think most friends will tell you it’ll be great and you’ll be all right. I think that you should make a schedule and remove a lot of distractions. It’s also important to get ahead when you can, like taking books with you to get ahead in the class readings and such. Also, there’s this weird phenomenon where freshman pack on a dozen pounds in their freshman year, I read about it and so, maybe also make sure you wake up early for a run every day and plan your meals.

Well, I’m glad they weren’t. I’m a singer here, I sing at weddings and events and the like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That’s nice...ehm, do you write your own songs too? I’ve heard wedding singers just do concerts but singing isn’t something I’ve ever bothered to really get to know more about. I’ve read some of the lyrics to songs with good beats or attractive artists but it’s rare for me to find something I enjoy every facet of sometimes.

Bendy? You mean flexible? You could be too with stretches.

She’s sweet and a joy to be around. The two of you aren’t friends? You seem to know her.
Tumblr media
We’ve hung out a little but have a lot of mutual friends. I don’t know much about her except she has a lot of interests and some of them intersect with mine...and that she’s nice.

Yeah just long nights of work that lead to sleepiness and laziness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That sounds awful. I work long hours too but it doesn’t seem like you enjoy your job all that much. What do you do?
