i’m kinda obsessed with bela and eric from the sex lives of college girls (tslocg)

i started watching tslocg in the middle of s2e1 with my friend, and said friend caught me up on everything going on with the main 4 characters. i didn’t rly have any attachment to any character / ship (though i rly liked kimberley haha her acting is so freakin funny and she’s pretty relatable), until the bantering between eric and bela in s2e3 when they were talking about short kings and sex!! ahhh i just loved the subtle but not so subtle perk of interest on eric’s part, asking who the short king was, clearly feeling slightly jealous but trying to conceal as much of it as possible. and the banter that followed and bela admitting that ok yes eric sex with u is better, and eric looking satisfied and smug but joking with her and being like “what? can u repeat that 😏”. tbh this is when i fell in love with eric too bc he’s a cute nerd who is having this casual relationship with bela but also prolly secretly likes her bc bela is kinda cool. ALSO he’s the type of guy who doesn’t open up and feel comfortable around people easily bc he is awkward, and he also doesn’t like people easily. but u can tell that he did really like bela even if he wasn’t the best at expressing it (but he did express it through his smiles, his willingness to call her and listen to her and give her advice and hype her up, though i will admit these two do have their own suite of issues that stem from both of their career ambitions). the scene between bela and the dads hurt me so much bc there, u can really see that eric really really liked bela and was really hurt by her :( and he later tells bela to her face as well that he liked her, which hurts me bc the viewer can rly tell that bela really regrets what she did to him :(

i really really really really really hope that in these final two eps of s2, eric and bela have a run-in or something bc i am truly not over them

Yes, I was shocked that Mindy Kaling decided to skip the whole “will they, won’t they” thing for Eric and Bela and jump straight to “They will! They will! OMG they ARE.” But

1. They’re college kids with chemistry and no obstacles keeping them from hooking up, so why wouldn’t they? This is probably more realistic.

2. Especially for Bela, who’s not exactly an overthinker. Of course she’s going to be impulsive and just act on any urge that comes over her.

3. And while that’s probably not true for Eric, once she’s the one to start something, he’s going to go with it. She’s a cute girl! And he’s obviously into her too.

4. This is the more interesting story choice because it goes against expectations. It surprised me, but not once I thought about it. Mindy likes to take romantic tropes and turn them upside down and inside out.

5. Fighting/hooking up/accidentally catching feelings will probably be more fun to watch and have more comedic potential than a slower burn.

I don’t think Bela showed up at Eric’s door intending this at all. When you’re into someone, you walk around with that desire to share things with them. When something good (or interesting or funny) happens, they’re the one you want to tell. And she’s pretty oblivious to why she feels that pull at this point, but she does, and she’s going to act on it because she’s a big ball of id. And so when she had a small success that he was tangentially involved with (let’s be real, his advice was not groundbreaking), she just wanted to share that happiness with him. It wasn’t until Eric asked if that was all, that she realized that wasn’t all.

It was a surprisingly romantic moment, though. Very sweet, and then very passionate, and the way he looks at her just before she takes off his glasses … it’s like he’s already in love with her? This was not a no-strings-attached hookup, regardless of what either one of them believes. They’re both such awkward idiots, it’s going to be fun watching them stumble their way toward being each other’s people, which they obviously are.

gotta say I am here for the friendships of the main 4. they went from strangers to ‘that seems like a shitty idea but I will help you and also yes I would die for you’. female friendships really are it.

UNPOPULAR SLOCG OPINION:

What Mindy Kaling did to Eric & Bela’s relationship was pretty shitty but it’s not bad writing. At the end of the day the main point of this show isn’t Bela & Eric’s relationship (even though I have to admit it’s one of my favorite parts). It’s literally the title. The sex lives of Whitney, Leighton, Kimberly, & Bela. It’s the sex lives of girls who are on their own for the first time and are new to adulthood. Which means being flawed and inexperienced when it comes to relationships, sex, responsibility, politics, building careers and life in general. So yeah they’re gonna do some dumb shit and will learn lessons the hard way more than once like any young adult in this world does. So be honest are y’all mad cause Mindy made a bad writing decision, or are y’all mad that your ship isn’t sailing the way you wanted it cause a character is acting the age she’s supposed to be and has a storyline that completely aligns with what the show’s main themes are?
