Why I hate Williamsburg hair salons by Damon Alfonso
First of all , I find them absurdly over priced. It’s ridiculous for someone who just got on the floor , specially Brooklyn to be charging more than $50. No disrespect or being a hater but all I see are over textured and thinned out hair . Absolutely no shape at all. Too much product has to be used just to make it look like something. I am totally disgusted by these salons who think that everything is beneath them. " Help Wanted " hair stylist with Sassoon , Aveda , Bumble & Bumble or Arrojo training. I know and worked with the creative director of Sassoon in London , and he is absolutely amazing. My only problem with his work is , a barber that charges $10 can absolutely do it. I stopped a lady one time because her haircut looked so familiar and was very sure this guy cut it and she tells me that her Russian barber gave it to her. Arrojo, their work is great but too stagnant if you ask me. New York is just way to fast , so you really cannot stay with the same way of cutting way too long, or your work just becomes very outdated. So, my point is that. These shops are robbing people blind but maybe I haven’t seen enough salons in Brooklyn yet.

Did a shoot with a new team. I am really just okay as a session stylist in my opinion. I feel I can always improve, never wanna settle for something okay. Today, I did a very sleek , clean , almost mohawky hair style. It came out better than I imagined. A lot of it has to do with restrain and discipline.

Yes, cool hair and it usually happens in Japanese fashion shows. Designers do not feel confident enough about their line that , they must have all their models wear natural looking hair...booooo!

SURPRISE! SURPRISE! Brad Pitt Visits Hoboken for World War Z Fan Screening at Hoboken Cinemas Last Night
Last night at Hoboken Clearview Cinemas, Brad Pitt made a surprise appearance for the World Z Fan Screening which started at 10:45pm. World War Z, an apocalyptic and action packed movie is set to be released in theaters in June. The crowd went wild when Brad Pitt entered as seen in the video below. TheBoken.com was there as well and had heard rumors he could make an appearance but seeing is believing.
Brad stated to the crowd right before the movie started “We can’t do it without showing to the people we made the film for. We got to do the screening for the fans . We decided there is no better place to do that than in New Jersey”. The movie was scary and suspenseful as Brad had promised. T-shirts were given out after the movie was over.
Lines had started forming at 8:00pm well over 2 hours before the movie started. By 10pm some people were turned away as word got out about the free giveaway. The best part of the evening for this editor was that some women were complaining that the only seats left were in front. After Brad Pitt showed up that concern has mysteriously gone away.

Online review websites has become a joke. Seriously! It exposes a lot of the ugliness in the world. People making up fake reviews, good reviews , bad reviews, irrelevant reviews. It's just became all very stupid and pretty much lost it's purpose. There are even people who offer services to make reviews. Online review sites ,itself favors good reviews if you pay for a service from them. Here is a few screen shots of people ranting about a restaurant they saw at Kitchen Nightmares. How can you write a review when you have never stepped foot in a business establishment. By watching a t.v. show? Are you fucking serious? Are people really this frustrated with how irrelevant they feel they have become , that they will use any forms of medium to lash out , just to feel some sort of self worth? Let's all go back to basic and stop relying on just technology. Come on people! I have a co-worker who is very talented and very sweet. She got a bad review because she wasn't"smiley". Another salon got a bad review because the music wasn't her taste?

Put away your tools! Luckily for all you lazy girls, natural look is still in. But Wait! Let's face it, no one is naturally beautiful. Trust me, No One! Even the natural look takes a little work, depends how ugly you are.. A good hair shaping from stylist and maybe some coloring. The trick is not too make it to look too perfect..What is important is that your stylist should understand the concept of making you, look beautiful without changing your current look completely...

I worked with a couple of German stylists and for some reason they are into nomad type themes. They gave me all these materials when I could have just used some hair and a little imagination. I really have matured as far as my taste in style. I am more into Madison Avenue type of clientele. I basically became something I thought I would never be. The funniest thing is that , the actual changed happened when I moved Downtown. When I was working in Madison Ave. I was into Rock & Roll/Punk hair.

Second coolest thing I have ever seen anyone done with their hair. It's not the type of work that I do but I appreciate good imagination and creativity.

What makes a salon , "high end"?
A high end salon in my opinion has nothing or little to do with it’s appearance. Anyone with money can open a big beautiful salon. You need a lot of street creds to call yourself high end. It means people actually used you on other things aside from working in a salon: fashion shows, magazine shoots, catalogs , look books , etc , etc… I see so many of these salon fail because they forget to build up a strong reputation aside from word of mouth. People wanna see credentials before they cough up $$$… I find that most people are generous and supportive if you have a cause. You really can’t just do it for the money. You really need to have a passion for it. People pay great amount of money to people who are less likely to fuck up ( excuse my language ).. They pay for your level of expertise. You can get a haircut anywhere, it just a matter how good it turns out or how well your stylist understands what he is doing.

I am currently working at this salon in Williamsburg , where I take my Manhattan clients. Very pretty salon but I have a feeling that the owner has no idea what she is doing. I am not to criticize people for their eccentricity but she is just way out there. First off, yelling at a client and telling them I have no time for you and I don’t want to waste anymore of my time with you is a little bit of a no , no. You don’t give title of master stylist by age, it should be given to you by your skills. Third, you don’t piss your receptionist. They are the first and the last face that a client sees. They can make you or destroy you..Plus , you do not misrepresent your salons a Japanese hair salon when it is Korean owned . To top it off, she puts the face of a Random non-asian person on her Yelp business page. What the hell?! So sad to this beautiful place go but I will have to keep on searching for a home.
