The day after I got bashed for being queer, I remember thinking “there is no fucking way I’m going to hide and feel ashamed”… I thought about Nan Goldin’s battered self portrait, and in that moment I knew I was going to make art that celebrates diversity and acceptance. I’m taking this time to thank the people who assaulted me for making my life choices so easy and encouraging me more than you’ll ever imagine.

I feel sorry for the numbers that hop on your evil broom with you and when they begin to fall, you push them and laugh  as you watch them fall to their demise. Your evil appetite leaves piles of bones where ever you go, you drop them one by one, after sucking every last morsel from them.  

Those smart enough to run before hand, they banned together and secretly hide from your evilness, they concur about what you are, what you have always been, and what you will always be. 

And in unison, we all say, bye bye evil one. Bye bye wicked witch of the west. We reclaim our home. Bye bye vulture. Your wings are cut. Bye bye number one who spews lies. Your vomit stench reaches none of anymore. Bye bye blood sucking vampire. There is no more blood for you to drain. We all raise our wooden stakes in unison as we bid you farewell forever.

Black Queer History: Ruth Ellis

In the 1920s, she met the only woman she ever lived with, Ceciline “Babe” Franklin. They moved together to Detroit, Michigan in 1937 where Ellis became the first American woman to own a printing business in that city. She made a living printing stationery, fliers, and posters out of her house.

Ellis and Franklin’s house was also known in the African American community as the “gay spot”. It was a central location for gay and lesbian parties, and also served as a refuge for African American gays and lesbians. Although Ellis and Franklin eventually separated, they were together for more than 30 years. Franklin died in 1973.[2] Throughout her life, Ellis was an advocate of the rights of gays and lesbians, and of African Americans. She died in her sleep at her home on October 5, 2000.
