for research and notes for my essay i took my presention notes and looked further into statics and interviews of the CEOs from TIFF, for Cannes i read paper on the creative director, looked into the scandals and peoples time at the festival so i could understand how the lack of representation at the festival as created microaggression to minority at Cannes. i looked into the rules of the dress code at the festival and the festivals awards.
i watched interviews of both CEOs, talks at the festivals from guest so i could understand how both festivals worked.

Film essay question
As i was researching TIFF i became interested in how it compares to other festivals with its representation and sheer amount of female films it shows each year i deiced i wanted to compare it to a historical well know festival so i choice Cannes as i knew there would be a good amount of research for it and i already knew about many of the scandal and how it represented women at the festival.

My own film festival
my own festival is the bell hooks festival named after the American written and activist who wrote about gender class and race.
The programme will consist of films made and staring woman including programmes for woman of colour and trans/queer woman.
the prices would be as cheap as possible while still having run smoothly and to a high level. i would have the first year in new York, and then i would move it to different cities as well as online showings.
i would look for help from foundations like the Geena Davis foundation for help and as a partner in the festival.

What films i would put together at a festival
1. Umbrellas Of Cherbourg and La La Land.
why? i would put these two together due to the major influence Umbrellas Of Cherbourg had on La La Land, by putting them together you would be able to see in depth the influence it had on director  Damien Chazelle. in a interview Chazelle says “ Years later Chazelle showed Umbrellas to composer Justin Hurwitz as they began to develop the idea for La La Land. Soon, Hurwitz “became even more obsessed,” than Chazelle himself. Chazelle then recalled bringing would-be financiers to Hurwitz’s Spartan apartment, which was completely empty except for a piano and a single Umbrellas of Cherbourg poster.”(Warren, 2017) Due to this i believe it would be interesting to see them compared togther in a double bill

My top 5 films
Tumblr media
La la land.
This has been my favourite films since 2016 when I first saw it in cinemas. Think it’s my favourite film because it’s first film I remember watching and understanding it was good, wanting to know who made it and why they did it. The cinema experience was incredible, everyone was quite, completely into the film.
Tumblr media
Lady bird.
I remember hearing about this film and being so excited to see it. It’s very personal to me it was one of the first time I saw a very realistic mother and daughter relationship I really related to. I watched it alone in my childhood bedroom and I just remembered feeling very seen by the character lady bird and her want to escape.
Tumblr media
The devil wears Prada.
This isn’t the most well shot or incredible film but I remember watching it when I was about 14 at a sleepover and loving it, trying to quote it all. I think it’s one of the most enjoyable films, no matter what it can put you I a good mood and I think that’s what is most important.
Tumblr media
10 things I hate about you.
Once again I remember watching this when I was younger, probably with my friends. I think I remember most my mum seeing me watching it and talking about how she saw it when it came out and how she remembers Heath Ledger.
Tumblr media
Lost in translation.
I removed seeing all stills and images from this film and always wondering where it was from, it wasn’t until I found about Sofia Coppola that I realised it was her film. I watched it and was just amazed by the look of it, I thought the colours and cinematography was so brilliant and it remains one of my favourite films to look at
