Fanfiction has existed since at least Gulliver’s Travels was published. Like it triggered a lot of fanfic type things so since at least 1726 it has in fact been a thing

Has anyone ever wandered about the early days of fanfiction?

I’m not talking about before the internet, I mean decades.....CENTURIES ago.

I like to imagine there were groups of fine ladies who liked to gather for tea during the Regency era and tell each other stories they made up about Colonel Brandon and Marianne.
