As we grow older, things change.

when i was 1 year old i could wear a tutu like a girl and no one would look at me funny

when i was 2 years old i could go around shirtless like a boy, and no one would bat an eye

when i was 3 years old, i started to hear people tell me not to wear dresses

when i was 4 years old, people started to tell me to dress more ladylike

when i was 5 years old, i could no longer get away with wearing my sisters clothes

when i was 6 years old, i would get told not to wear those swim trunks my brother wore

when i was 7 years old, i wasn’t allowed to do ballet like my sister

when i was 8 years old, the football team wouldn’t let me play like my brother

when i was 9 years old, i was teased for not wanting to do sports

when i was 10 years old, i got bullied for not wanting to wear makeup.

when i was 11 years old, i was taunted and called a sissy.

when i was 12 years old, i would get mocked for not being like the other girls

when i was 13 years old, my teacher would tell me to 'man up'

when i was 14 years old, people would tell me to ‘be the woman in the situation’

when i was 15 years old i was told i ran like a girl

when i was 16 years old, i was told i ran like a girl

we treat being feminine as an insult. it isn’t.

the patriarchy hurts both boys and girls. don’t think otherwise.
