Greece the top summer destination with Austrian Airlines
Tumblr media
During the summer holidays, Greece is one of the most popular destinations for Austrian Airlines (Austrian Airlines-AUA) and this year the one with the highest demand, followed by Spain and Italy. To date, Austrian Airlines has recorded a total of 96,000 passengers on flights to Greece for the months of June and August, with the top Greek destinations being Crete, Rhodes and Kos, and a current occupancy rate of around 80%. "The desire of Austrians to travel is growing every day. In order to be able to serve the travel needs of our passengers, we are constantly adapting our offer," says Michael Tristel, CEO of the company. In addition to the daily flights to Heraklion, a Boeing 777 long-haul aircraft will be used on Saturdays from 24 July to 4 September. With the use of this larger aircraft type in the Austrian Airlines fleet, around 100 additional passengers can be carried per Saturday flight on the route to Heraklion; on all other flight days, the route is served by an Airbus A320 family aircraft. The first flight OS9001 to Heraklion with a Boeing 777 will depart on 24 July at 6:10 a.m. from Vienna International Airport, landing is scheduled at 8:40 a.m. The return flight OS9002 takes place at 10:20 a.m., arriving in Vienna at 12:55 p.m. The Boeing 777 will then be used on this route for seven consecutive Saturdays until 4 September. Austrian Airlines had been counting since the beginning of the year on stronger demand for holiday travel during the summer season and in this context the focus of its summer programme was on Greece and Cyprus, as was highlighted during the presentation in mid-February when bookings for the 2021 holiday season began. For example, the programme envisages up to ten flights per week to Heraklion in Crete or 16 to Larnaca in Cyprus, while increased frequency is planned for Rhodes, Mykonos and Kos. In general, Austrian Airlines - which is a subsidiary of the German Lufthansa - wanted to gradually increase the flight schedule again, depending of course on the course of the coronavirus pandemic and travel restrictions. This was because, after a small peak during the Christmas holidays, their flight offers had fallen in the first quarter to 15% of their pre-crisis level. Source Read the full article

Discovering Athens. The National Garden
Tumblr media
Today we bring you another post in the series "Discovering Athens". It's about the National Garden, a must visit if you have the chance to connect with nature, and it's right in the center of the city! The National Garden of Athens is one of the largest green spaces in the entire Greek capital, located just behind the Greek Parliament building. It is made up of several gardens in the center of the city, forming a public park of about 15 hectares, with seven entrances among the whole park. Queen Amalia had them built between 1838 and 1839 under the name of the Royal Gardens, and they were not opened to the public until 1923. The area was renamed the National Garden. During the tour of the National Garden of Athens you will also be able to see a large number of archaeological remains, as well as the pond and the small zoo, which houses a number of aquatic species, with dozens of turtles that often attract large numbers of tourists. An ancient aqueduct built by Pisistratus serves as an irrigation channel and habitat for peacocks and water birds. Some ancient ruins can still be seen, such as the numerous busts scattered throughout the site. In addition, this park has more than 500 different plant 🌿 species, of which those that have been able to adapt to the climate are preserved. The designer Friedrich Schimdt travelled the world in search of the most exotic and special plants, and the Greek naval forces were also commissioned to collect different plant species from all over the world. There are cercis (Judas tree), carob trees, oleanders, cypresses, oaks, Australian pines, Spanish date palms, etc. A walk through this place is usually linked to a visit to the Botanical Museum and the Zappeion Hall (a building that was used for fencing during the 1896 Olympic Games), which is now used for ceremonial feasts and meetings. Entrance is public and therefore free of charge. An unmissable visit! That's all we have to tell you about the National Garden, we hope you liked it and, as always, found it useful.💡 See you at the next destination adventurers!✨😸🇬🇷 Read the full article

From May we estimate a higher number of trips abroad and in the summer the mood of Germans for travel will again be great," the president of the German Travel Association DRV, Norbert Fibbing, told the newspaper, sharing the view of Mr Barays, who a few days ago, speaking to Reuters, predicted a "travel boom" as early as the summer. Casa-Museo / House-Museum. A cultural proposal in Karavomylos Kefalonia
In Karavomylos, in one of the most picturesque villages of Kefalonia, you will find Casa Museo, the museum that represents on a smaller scale a rezidetsa i.e. the residence of nobili/nobles in the countryside and hosts objects and furniture of the ancestral families Stefanatu-Mordoku, Kavalieratu and Tokka. At a time when everything is changing rapidly and information is moving rapidly, without verification of authenticity, cities have begun to look for a way to delineate and redefine their identity in order not to let valuable information be irrevocably lost over time. In this context, the creation of city museums finds fertile ground in both Europe and Greece as modern trends are identified with the strengthening of culture, a field where museums must be a key component. In such cases it is interesting to study both the private initiative in the establishment and operation of city museums and the capacity of citizens to participate in them. Moreover, according to the basic museum theories, if a museum fails to be embraced and embraced by the citizens, if it has no deep roots in local history or does not open a fruitful dialogue with it, it will hardly be able to achieve its purpose and not even, even, be able to survive. With this in mind, the case of the "casa-Museo/house-Museum" in Karavomylos Kefalonia should be studied in this respect. Read the full article

The paradise of the Small Cyclades If there is a paradise, maybe it is in Koufonisia
Tumblr media
Everyone is bowing to the Small Cyclades and there are good reasons for that In the complex of the Small Cyclades and somewhere between Naxos and Amorgos, two small dots on the map are carefree. Nature was generous with them and gave them incredible waters. You do not find them easily in the Aegean, since they are more similar to those in the Ionian Sea. In fact, these are four islands: Ano Koufonisi, Kato, Kero and Glaronisi. But only the first is inhabited. Gradually -especially in recent years- it is evolving into a very popular destination. Mainly for Greek travelers, but things in it always remain simple. Sea caves, Aegean light and unique beaches. In combination with a terribly relaxed atmosphere and the genuine hospitality of the locals. They hug you from the first moment - or as if you are their own child, they make you believe that you are somewhere in heaven. In fact, these are four islands: Ano Koufonisi, Kato, Kero and Glaronisi. But only the first is inhabited. Gradually -especially in recent years- it is evolving into a very popular destination. Mainly for Greek travelers, but things in it always remain simple. Authentic images, imposing landscapes, old manners, customs and habits. The majority of the locals are still engaged and live exclusively from fishing. Although tourism is finally evolving more and more. Watches are probably not needed here. #CycladeGuide #Cyclades #Greece #Keros #Koufonisi #Koufonisia Read the full article
