When people think Katniss is aromantic I wonder if they closed their eyes through this part. She thinks what's going on between her and Peeta is an act but gets "almost foolishly happy" about discovering Peeta has had a decade-long crush on her (or in her words, was "in love" with her).

"There's no platonic explanation for this" should be used sparingly, but in this case, there is no solid platonic explanation. Being happy to the point it's "almost foolish" someone has romantic feelings toward you sounds like experiencing romantic feelings yourself. Especially when this same character acts alarmed when her best friend later confesses his love, which makes this one different and not her default reaction when anyone says they have romantic feelings for her. And keep in mind, this is book one, so Everlark have only properly known each other for two or three weeks at this point. But she's still happy that he's in love with her!
