thankfully, it seems her wonderful, yet still very confused boyfriend has a perfect term for it.

"I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but yeah. It's definitely seeming like an "I was raised in a cult" thing." She nodded, but her smile slowly began returning as he seemed to be humoring her ideas at least. "Hexes holdum? I guess so! But we can play other games too! Like Uno, or monopoly, or pictionary, freeze tag, hide n go seek, anything goes!" They had lots of human board games and such too. But at his next question, she scooted closer and gave him a hug.

"No, you don't have to have cake." She thought ahead for that, instead she'd already baked him a few big cookie cakes for his little party instead. "You wanna know the rules of birthdays? It's easy!" She spoke matter of factly. "It's your birthday, and your celebration. If you want cookies instead of cake, that's exactly what you'll get~. You wanna watch your favorite cartoons? Well put them on in the crystal ball in the living room! You wanna go to town and go to the library? Then the library you shall have!" She summed up.

"today is your day!" Today she wanted him to be a little greedy for once, and put himself first.

“No not a literal holiday.” She laughed, not meaning to confuse him. But growing more and more concerned.

“….Noel.” she began, trying to carefully pick out her words. “Celebrating birthdays isn’t just a human thing. it’s an isles thing too. But apparently not a castle thing. “Eda has a birthday party, so does King, Gus, Willow, Amity, everyone!” It’s not just a thing between twins, though that seems to be the case for these twins.

“People throw parties for the people they care about on their birthdays, it’s a was of saying they appreciate you, and are glad you were born! There’s usually cake, and presents, games, and doing things that the birthday boy, girl, or person wants to do.” It was kind of sad….she hoped this year she could give him a good birthday.

    He still has that puzzled expression on, trying to imagine that everyone he knows and doesn’t know has a birthday party! Everyone on the Boiling Isles! Well…except for him, his twin, and Belos, apparently. It’s mind blowing, to be honest, and he has to take moment to digest this information.

    “Cake, presents, games?” Noel says curiously, moving onto the next tidbit once he’s somewhat absorbed the first bombshell. “Like…that card game that Eda likes? Or Grudgy?” Those are the only games he can think of; he doesn’t think that running obstacle courses count as games anymore.

    “Is this…another ‘I was raised in a cult’ thing?” From what he’s heard about human cults, the Emperor’s Coven sure seems to match up to a lot of them. “Oh ummm…do I have to have cake? Can I have chocolate chip cookies instead? Or is that not allowed? What are the rules of a birthday party, Luz?”

Once the large trunk is pushed over, and the other gifts set in his lap she steals a seat next to him on the couch. Duel colored eyes watching eagerly to see if he likes his presents! She’d gotten Goldie gifts too, but hadn’t really stuck around to watch them open it…or if they even opened the gift box in the first place.

“you’re welcome! I’m glad you like em!” She beamed, though her happy smile was quick to turn into a confused one.

“What do you mean holiday? No no missed anniversaries, that’s not for a few months still~.” Wait…had he never gotten his birthday celebrated before? No it couldn’t be! “Noel… it’s your holiday! It’s your birthday, and on birthdays you get presents from people who love you and friends, and sometimes even a party!” They’d planned a small one for him, kind of, since they weren’t sure he’d like a big party. Just a fun movie night on the crystal ball, with lots of Noel’s favorite food and stuff.

    It’s clearly not computing. Noel just shoots Luz a very confused look and shakes his head. “I’m pretty sure a birthday isn’t a holiday, Luz. At least, not here. I mean, maybe it’s different in the human world…” Everyday would be a holiday then! Do all humans born on the same day share the holiday, or do they take turns every year?

    “I mean…I would get Goldie something. Normally I’d make it and they’d get me something in return, that’s about it.” Something shared between siblings, between twins. Edric and Emira probably have something similar, right?

    “Okay but…why a party? Parties are for big, important events. Like a promotion or someone becoming a Coven Head. I’m not getting a promotion since I left the Emperor’s Coven and I’m quite a few years away from my goal of becoming the Healing Coven head.”

In the big one, is a simple but pretty, and very large storage trunk, and in the first smaller is….a matching over the shoulder satchel? In the second is a soft Eevee onesie. “They’re connected with magic! Anything you put in the bag, will go into the chest, and you can pull out anything in the chest out through the bag! But the bag will never feel too heavy!”

    Noel is surprised when Luz suddenly dumps three packages in his lap, followed by a birthday wish. He blinks a few times, confused as he places his hands over the large gift and starts unwrapping them. It would be rude to refuse a gift, after all.

    The trunk and the satchel are going to be extremely useful in the future; especially for things such as collecting ingredients for potions and whatever world saving shenanigans he gets up to with his girlfriend. The onesie isn’t nearly as practical, but it’s very cute and soft. Noel smiles, running a hand along the fabric. “Thank you, Cuddles.”

    “I’m just…wondering why you got me these things. Is there a holiday I’m not aware of? Did I miss an anniversary or something?” Oh boy, if it’s the second one, he’s going to have to hustle to get Luz some nice gifts!

"something wrong, mí amor~?" She teased, taking in his cute flustered expression. And to think, mamí once said said she might lack the family Spanish charm!

"You look a little flushed." A kiss is placed to his other cheek as well, and she's just going to keep giving kisses until Noel shows any signs of discomfort with the affection! But for now? It's boyfriend loving hours~.

    Noel squeaks loudly when he’s grabbed and then dipped; staring up at Luz with wide eyes and dark blush across his cheeks and ears. This only gets worse when she kisses his cheek.

    He’d really love to respond, but is so tongue tied that the first syllable comes out in a mess of stutters.

"Well, I suppose that's true too~!" She laughed, resting her head on his shoulder. Though regardless of his worries, she found him to be a wonderful boyfriend.

"How about a little of both tonight? We can order takeout from that nice healthy place you like? And hang out while you do your reports and stuff. My treat~."

"See, you say that Duende Verde, but you've been staring at your Brimstone stew for the past 10 minutes." She shrugged, holding her lunch tray with one hand as she gestured to his own school lunch.

"We have a saying back home "bien nunca significa bien"." She shifted past a few students and took a seat across from him at the table. "It means, "fine never means fine". I don't need anything, but are you ok?" Sure, she may not see Edric as often since he was a grade above her, but he was still on the list of people she considered her friend. Maybe it was something as simple as being nervous for a test, but it was obvious something was up.
