Hello everyone,
Taking this opportunity to discuss FASD, otherwise known as fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, in order to contribute to knowledge mobilization. FASD is oftentimes considered a hidden disorder, suffering from stigmatization preventing both families and individuals with FASD from seeking support.
In addition, the lack of a formal diagnostic test means that there is often disagreements between the sectors for how best to support these individuals. As a result, in order to help combat these disagreements, it is important to consider the importance of cross-collaboration, where each sector can share their knowledge and experience in order to best support individuals with FASD, and to prevent people from falling in between the cracks.
Finally, it is important when trying to give support to not just focus on the difficulties individuals with FASD face, but also the resilience and strengths they have, such as being able to build community with others.
Sincerely,
A Community Researcher
