Idk how "when interacting with ancient texts, it is important to understand the cultural norms and practices at the time, while still being able to interrogate the ways in which these perpetuate a system of violence and oppression, or the ways in which it gives you a glimpse of what they believed during that time period and how it's affected their stories and narratives. Context is important but not justification. Interest is not endorsement." is such a hot take
#I’m taking a Greek/roman mythology unit at the moment and this was literally one of the first sentiments my lecturer pointed out#of course things are going to be questionable back then#bloody half the gods are both siblings and lovers at the same time#but that doesn’t change what the message of the myth is or what the character represents

Okie @obamasleftkidney I have finished the book! (I am a slow reader lol) My final verdict in: I loved it!
The story kept me on my toes trying to figure out what was happening, while also laying out the clues rather well (the puppet clue in particular was fun, though I didn’t understand it fully until the end). The way the characters were portrayed, particularly Royce, made it easy to understand their motives and actions (even if I don’t agree with some of them, but morally grey characters will do that to you).
I will admit, getting into it was difficult for me, but at no fault of the writing. It took me a while to adjust to the formatting of the speech, initially thinking all spoken dialogue were thoughts due to them being italicised. It was kind of jarring to me, but once I got the hang of it it was fine.
(Keeping this bit as vague as possible because spoilers lol) My favourite bits of it had to be the reveal of Riley and all the Eden scenes. Mainly the Riley thing though, that part gave me goosebumps. Props to you for the descriptions in that scene, it was incredibly well done.
I will go on record and say I WAS RIGHT (kinda, like half way right). Not really for the right reasons though lol. Reading through the detective’s final summary of the case felt rewarding and also really cool, seeing the pieces I had missed while also seeing some pieces I had put together.
So yeah, I really enjoyed that. I cannot wait to see what else this detective gets up to!
#also the reveal of the title’s meaning got me so hard#god damn it#as a meta thing too it was a lot of fun seeing all the clues that were given out in their actual context#the meaning of some of them were completely different when put in context

You lied to me. You killed three of my favourite characters
If you're on here relaxing, just know:
I'm killing your favorite character as you're reading this <3
If this is your first time seeing my post; I'm writing a novel which will be released soon. I refuse to tell you the plot, the characters, the tropes, nor the premise. I only ask for your follow + I write my followers names down in a little pretty notebook. I will drop little clues and quotes and paragraphs. Ominous little hints. And the first follower to guess the plot receives a free signed copy of the novel once it's published. (Merch included according to the guessed plot's accuracy)
Do follow me and find out, for if this ended up on your page, this novel has everything you like. I might disappoint, but how do you know for sure I will?
If you're interested, follow me, and go read my posts. Clues have already been dropped.
#granted one of them was no longer a favourite by the time he died#dude is not allowed to do what he did and still be a favourite

The funniest thing to me about watching avatar for the first time now is that because it’s so well loved (and rather old in internet standards) I know that Zuko has a character arc of some kind and joins the main crew. So I’m watching him be set up as this enemy and big threat, and I’m cheering him on! You go you angsty teen! You get that avatar!
#I guess that’s also kind of the point#he’s built up as a threat that you want to succeed#but still it’s amusing to me#I’m waiting for the episode that breaks him#looking forward to it ngl

I have a list of songs I consider “theme songs” for each life series winner, and they’re all rather serious.
And then there’s Joel.
Joel’s is “I Own A Car” by Ninja Sex Party
#I say theme songs but they are more along the lines of “I have an animatic idea for these songs#trafficblr#wild life smp#smallishbeans#Joel and his bloody car
