The Futures of Zero Redeeming Qualities and Blood and Marrow ...
To assuage any worries immediately: Both Zero Redeeming Qualities and Blood and Marrow are continuing, for sure. I’ve been working on them, and I’m hoping to start posting again soon.
However, there is a problem. I’m unhappy with their beginnings. Like, a lot. They were largely writing exercises for me, and I don’t regret starting them, but I know how close they are to their inspirations and I don’t like it. I’ve begun rewriting them, hoping to give them more of their own identity.
I don’t know how to incorporate these rewritten chapters into their stories, though.
At the moment, I can think of four options:
Post new chapters while deleting old ones
I don’t like this option quite as much because I love the comments you all have left for me! I don’t want to lose them. I hoard comments like a crow hoards shiny things. They sustain my life force.
Post new chapters over the old ones
A better option, except … some of the rewritten chapters are combinations of two (or more!) previous chapters! It isn’t going to be a one-to-one thing.
Post new chapters, make old chapters an appendix
This would preserve the old chapters and comments while also allowing for the new beginning to be written without having to follow the old chapter schedule. It would mean I’d have to remember which chapter I’m writing, so I don’t accidentally post new chapters at the end of the appendix. It would also mean that my story might claim to be 20 chapters, but really only be 15, which feels a bit dishonest.
Discontinue old stories, make rewrites into new ones
Basically: Start over. I would keep my old work up as it is, but would mark it as “completed” and make a note about its discontinuation along with a link to the new project. This *could* mean that I start posting every week, at least until I’ve caught both ZRQ and B+M up to where they currently are. This would lose a lot of current readers, however, which would make me sad.
I don’t know which is the best option to take. So, I throw it to you, my wonderful readers! I’ve got a poll going on over on Twitter about this for the next seven days. PLEASE, if you have thoughts go vote or message me there.
