Running While Female
It so unfortunate that the #MeToo movement has and still spilling over into the running community.
When I have been out for a run, it been everything from comments or gestures that can be classified as sexual harassment to people approaching in a friendly manner asking me about running to people just nodding/waving “good morning.”
In any situation, you have to be prepared for it all.
For me……

PLUNGE INTO IT AND DANCE IT OUT Mile 22 of a marathon is known as the wall. “Hitting the wall” is a much-feared and much-discussed phenomenon in marathoning because a sudden wave of fatigue that sets in and it’s painful. This is when the race transitions for most people and mentally you have to decide to continue since the physically has left the building. So , I do dance. Yes, I am exhausted. Yes, I am sore. Yes, I am weak. Wayne Dyer said, “When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It’s to enjoy each step along the way.” So, instead of embracing the exhaustion, the soreness and pain of step, I have decided to celebrate each step. • Life is very similar. You can hit a wall and your natural first response is feel the pain. • I challenge you to “get in your feelings” #ShiggyChallenge #Shoot #HitTheQuan #LevelUp ... R.U.N. and DANCE IT OUT!!! #RiseAndRUN 📷: @terry.thomas.photography

THOSE WHO DON’T JUMP WILL NEVER FLY Think about the last time you made a major life-changing decision and then took action on it instead of just placing it on your bucket list or vision board. What led you to take that courageous step? Were you moving away from something or towards something? Did you think about it for years or months in advance before you took that big leap, or merely weeks or days? Was there a particular event in your life that inspired your decision or a nagging feeling of continued stagnation that had to end? Was it something that somebody said or did that pushed you to that moment when just JUMPED??? • For me, it was penning my mother’s obituary. I remember writing about her as a person and her life...every moment of her life, she jumped (took a leap of faith) and lived a fulfilled life. I knew in that moment that I could no longer lived a life get standing at the edge too afraid to jump. • Until you spread your wings, you will never know if you can fly. Go ahead and unleash nonetheless! • #RiseAndRUN 📷: @terry.thomas.photography

I MAY BEND BUT I WILL NEVER BREAK Have you ever paid attention to bamboo trees. One of my favorite neighborhood running routes have tons of bamboo trees. I have watched them through all four seasons and through all weather conditions. First of all, bamboo trees live through the changing of seasons. Also, they bend under pressure from the wind and return gracefully to their upright or original position after the wind had died down. Talk about resilience! The strongest will is the will to know how to bend...but don’t break. There will undoubtedly come times when seasons will change. The winds may even blow but don’t let it break you. #RiseAndRUN 📷: @terry.thomas.photography

RUNNING SHOES MATTER • So...yes, I run “pretty” but “performance” is also important to me. There is a way to be in the right “stride” while in “style.” What shoes do you prefer to wear while running? Did you know that your shoes can make or break a run? • I started off in a stability shoe and moved into a neutral shoe after weight loss and performance enhancement. Am I speaking for a foreign language to you right now? Confused? • Based on the type of running, your strike and stride, you will need the proper shoe FOR YOU. Running in the wrong shoe will cause pain while running and even lead to injury. • My shoe (at the moment) is the Nike Legend React Women's Running Shoe...cute plus it feels like I am running on clouds even after 10 Miles!!!! What’s your “go-to” shoe? • Side Note: You should get a new pair of shoes every 300-500 Miles. #RiseAndRUN #JustTheStart
