Finally finished this painting!
"Stealing a Silmaril" - acrylics on paper (wips on patreon)
“Then Lúthien catching up her winged robe sprang into the air, and her voice came dropping down like rain into pools, profound and dark. She cast her cloak before his eyes, and set upon him a dream, dark as the outer Void where once he walked alone.”

In Methode's talk with the Ehre-Wirbel-Scharf trio, she doesn't say that she can defeat Fern, just that she's good at stopping people (足止め, lit. "foot stopping", also can mean confinement). When she's test-casting on real Frieren and real Fern, she had to physically touch them to restrain them. It seems like an ongoing cast, like Sorganeil; doesn't seem like Methode could cast any other spell while maintaining this freezing one.
In the aftermath of the fight, you can see from the dissipating mana that clone Fern's body was right in front of Methode.
I therefore propose this theory: after managing to dodge the Zoltraak machine gun, Methode just. grabbed clone Fern. and they just stood there having the world's weirdest silent stareoff for minutes until Spiegel died.

Oh what's that? You only read books with lots of "spice" in them? Well then I've got a great one for you, practically the whole plot revolves around "spice". Ahem. In the week before the departure to Arrakis,

I recently learned a new defense against dagger attacks that involves grabbing the person's wrist, tripping them, and catching them in a sort of ballroom dancing dip. It's so funny to me. I see you are trying to Stab me, but unfortunately for you, I am going to Hold you in my Strong Arms and make you Uncomfortable

Is wearing a wedding dress to a fight a good way to get killed? Yes. Was getting killed in the most dramatic way possible her entire goal? Also yes.
Hera and the Wedding Dress
Just saw a post saying there was no point in Hera wearing that wedding dress when she confronted Wulf.
There was every point.
A major part of Wulf's motive was vengeance for not only his father's death, but Hera's "arrogance" in rejecting him. His father's death and Hera's rejection were intertwined in his head, the anger for one fuelled the anger for the other.
Wulf had no reason to duel Hera, except for vengeance.
Hera needed to make Wulf make a bad decision, and to do that she needed to push all his triggers. She needed to get his anger levels rocketing up to one hundred.
And how was she going to do that?
By riding up to him in a fucking wedding dress.
The minute he saw her in that dress, he was spitting vinegar.
Hera knew Wulf's motivations, knew his flaws, and knew the best way of making him make a bad decision, and she acted on that.
That dress was psychological war play.

War of the Rohirrim spoilers:
I understand that Hama had to die. I do. I understand that he absolutely had to die in the specific the way that he did, because Hama as a character represents the valor and honor of the people of Rohan (exemplified in his mastery of song, which is how those values are upheld in the community and passed along to the next generation), and Wulf, who rejects these values, had to kill him in a dishonorable way to represent his attempt to destroy the values of the Eorlingas and prove that valor and honor are worthless. And I understand that Hama’s instrument being passed to others represents that that valor and honor did not die with him, and could not be destroyed by Wulf. I understand this! I do! But also, have you considered: it made me sad

Eowyn did not declare "But no living man am I! You look upon a woman. Éowyn I am, Éomund's daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him." For bad faith takes to call this woman a Mary-sue sixty some years later. This scene was awesome and I'll be taking no criticism on that point.
