Imma be so fr, I love Charles severely, I want to say him. However, Charles would NOT have the right vibe sense for the aux. He’d play some club mix for 20 minutes and once you get the vibes going, he’s playing piano man and killing the vibes.

Charles and Religion
Charles and religion is a concept I think is absolutely tragic. The white supremacists at the time were certain that his culture was godless and wrong. Difference of religion was okay as long as it was Christianity. And yet, the religious symbology of Red Dead Redemption seems to leave a tidy blank, ambiguous and agnostic. I don’t think Charles is a religious or secular person, but rather genuinely unbothered by religion.
I think Charles is unafraid of death, unafraid of any outcome of the afterlife. Charles knows he has flaws, knows that he’s a sinner, but he was born wrong in accordance with the ideals at the time. He believed in his culture, believed in his late mother. If that was wrong, he didn’t want to be right. If his mother was a sinner, burning for the crime of being herself, then there was no sense in conforming to the beliefs at the time. If his mother wasn’t in the afterlife, it would never be paradise.

Happy birthday @noshirdalal! Meeting you was one of the best experiences of my life. I’m not an artist or anything spectacular, but I did find this collection of stock photos online. :)

Looking back on my posts, I saw one that I wanted to do more on. Sadie and Charles friendship headcannons
Sadie tied Charles’s tie for the bank job (he forgot how) and she tied the knot too tight. When he came back from hiding out, he had to make her untie it.
Charles cannot understand Sadie’s accent very well so he’s always having to be like “okay, say that again… slowly.”
I headcannon Sadie grew up with brothers, so she treats Charles like a brother. Charles is an only child so he doesn’t really get it. Sadie will be like “Hey ugly!” and Charles will look up horrified like “Why would you say that?”
Charles did NOT grow up in the south, so Sadie taught him some little phrases. Years later he still says those phrases. Lone wolf after a fight was once quoted saying “that really butters my biscuits.”

Sometimes I go to bed and remember my ridiculous meet up with Rob Wiethoff and I’ll never forgive myself. I shook his hand backwards and when he said “it was nice meeting you” I said “me too.” John Marston had me acting a fool.

I have a headcannon and I’m still doing research on it so bear with me:
Left handed Charles.
Now you might be thinking “but he’s right handed in the game.” To that I say HEAR ME OUT. I’m being cannon compliant.
This got me thinking about left handedness in the Wild West days and in doing some quick google searches, I found some interesting finds. Like this chart of left hand commonness.
Tumblr media
Like most things people say “weren’t around back then,” left handedness was rare because it was considered taboo or a defect. In factories, all the machinery used in the Industrial Revolution was designed for right handedness so it was crucial for people to be right handed. So what’s the story here?
Well in Noshir’s headcannon, Charles was taken to a residential school to “assimilate to the culture.” In this time, it’s hard to say how long or how much they did to assimilate him, but him being left handed was a big no no. Left handedness was considered “godless,” “possessed by the devil,” and “sinister” (which actually comes from a term for left handed people.) To “cure” lefties, they would resort to tying their left hand to a chair to force them to use their right, forced to sit on their hand, and of course beaten for using their left hand.
Though I don’t believe Charles was in the school long enough to fully be trained out of his left handedness, it was long enough to instill that sense of insecurity in him. They tried to take a lot of things away from him, but the one thing they succeeded on was his dominant hand.

It is 3 am but I HAVE to talk about Aabria Iyengar and why she is my all time favorite GM. Now, before watching Circle of tide and bone I was quoted with saying “Oh I’m not a DnD person.” (And no, Candela is not DnD, but it made me much more open to seeing what this DnD shit was about.) The circle itself was amazing because no one in the group was shy about their actions. They took scars and bludgeoned their way through issues the hard way. The thing about Aabria is that she made them the best possible outcome for the circle.
Watching Aabria in The Seven was almost a jarring experience because of just how ethereal she was in Candela as a GM. She was not just a storyteller, she was judge, jury and executioner. When I tell you the crew gave their ALL into backstories and ideas, and Aabria never shied away. Instead she took all their ideas and worked with them to create and craft an intriguing story, making us feel and empathize with these characters. Since the time I watched candela, I have watched other GMs (Brennan Lee Mulligan, Jasper Cartwright, and the unbelievable Katie Marovich), and have genuinely appreciated their style and dedication, and I do not want to disparage them in any way. However, Aabria is the GM that made me actually interested in the world of tabletop RPG. It was truly something I don’t know if I could ever experience again.

“It’s just a bison”
Not to the person who lost his culture, lost his identity because of blind hatred. Not to the people who came before who relied on the creature for survival, for warmth, for food, for everything. Not to a mother telling stories to her child, hoping something sticks before her time comes to an end. Not to the culture, actively suffering from the consequences of other’s greed.
It’s always been more than just a bison. It’s a symbol of the effects of greed, prejudice, and despite everything, the love that remains.

I don’t know if I’m just in desire for angst but IDGAF WHAT YOU SHIP AS LONG AS THERES A POINT OF CONJECTURE THAT OPENS THE FLOOR FOR ANGST. Charthur? Okay, you better make them a messy, tragic romance LIKE A MAN! Mararthur? Slay, remember that they will never work out, he will never choose her, and you got ALL THAT POTENTIAL. “Brenna, what about my rare pairs?” Chavier will continue to separate until they are vague memories in each other’s lives. YOU GOT POTENTIAL JUST GIVE ME SADNESS!!!!!!!!!
