TWST Fic: Book 8: The Abandoned
I figured that since Book 8 isn't gonna come out in a hot minute, I might as well pass the time by writing my own version. By far, I am the most excited for book 8 because it's the only book that isn't based on a previous disney movie plot, so it's going to be completely original.
Synopsis: All of Yuu's adventures have culminated to this point. They've contributed their fair share of work around Night Raven College. From running errands around the school to managing the questionable student body, they really had their work cut out for them. After all their efforts, it's time to go home. At least that was the plan. You know how the headmage can be. Whatever. It's fine. If they want something done, they just gotta do it themself. No matter the cost, they'll do anything just to feel the warm embrace of home again.

Jack Spicer, Evil Boy Wizard
Notes:
I just recently became aware of xiaolin showdown. Best decision ever. First episode and Jack Spicer already was my favorite. As part of the new obsession cycle, I started to look on Ao3 for more content.
I found this fic called "laugh when it sinks in (the regret that is)" where Jack is a wizard prodigy and gets recruited into Hogwarts. It never finished but it left a mark on me and had me thinking, "That would be so interesting if he had magic but didn't use it often."
Inspiration struck me. But I had so many big projects going on and waiting to be updated.
.
.
.
.
.
So anyway, I started writing.
Although Jack having magic isn't canon, I still believe that (to a certain extent) that the events in the story did happen. This is just a little dive into his magical background.
Word Count: 1.2k (oneshot)
Warnings: Angst
“Jack, you haven’t had any of your steak,” his mother worries, “Is everything okay?”
He nudges the food with his fork, “Yeah, I’m fine.” The clinking utensils echo throughout the expansive dining hall. Despite the warm white radiating from the ornate crystal chandelier, there is a cold tension that lingers in the scarlet walls.
The man right across from Jack narrows his eyes at him, “We imported that right from-”
“The magical world,” Jack finishes with an uninterested groan, “I know, Dad.”
“I don’t understand why anyone would be so against having such a gift,” his father continues, “We’ve given you the best education a wizard can find. And what do you do? Throw it away for your silly machines.”
“They’re not silly.”
“I think it’s good that he’s found a new hobby,” his mom adds, “Keeps him engaged.”
“Michelle,” his father pinches the bridge of his nose, “ Having a son obsessed with robots isn’t a good look for the Spicer name.” He continues, “You hear what they say? They think he’s some kind of freak. A non-magical one.”
Michelle’s tone darkens, “Jason, I hope you remember that I’m not magical either.”
He shakes his head in regret, “I didn’t mean it like that, honest. It’s just that I don’t need to give them another reason to doubt our family. To doubt what we built here. I’m asking that you take this seriously. Leave those robots behind and uphold the Spicer legacy of magic.”
“He’s so young,” Michelle interjects before Jack can reply, “You can’t just be putting pressure on him like that.”
“If he doesn’t get it now,” Jason drums his fingers on the white tablecloth as the chandelier flickers, “I don’t know when he will.”
“You know what? Forget this,” Jack rises from his seat and storms into the basement.
“Jack, wait-” Michelle calls, attempting to reach for him,
“It’s fine, dear. I’m sure he’ll see one day how futile this is.”
______________________________________________________________
“Stupid magic and stupid parents!” Jack exclaims. He kicks the leg of his workdesk in frustration. A sharp pain gnaws on his nerve and he hops on the other leg, “Ow! Ow! That hurt a lot more than it should’ve.” With a sigh, he drags a stool to the table and begins to tinker with the littered robot parts he was working on before.
“I think all you need is an upgrade and then you'll be all set,” Jack pulls his goggles to his face, “Now first, I’ll need a screwdriver.” When he glances to his left, he finds one floating beside him, “Perfect.” He grabs the tool from the air and begins to undo each nail.
Jack makes a beckoning gesture and a wrench lands into his palm. With another wave of his hand, he summons a box of nails that thumps onto the cluttered surface.
“I could really use a torch,” Jack begins, only to find one appear on his desk, “There.”
As Jack becomes completely entranced with his work, more tools float to him like a magnet. The mask of heat prickles Jack’s face as he watches the metal melt like candle wax and bind together. Just the escape he needed.
“Jack?” the familiar raspy voice calls.
All the tools dancing in the air halt and clamor onto the ground.
“W-Wuya?!” Jack shrieks, snapping his head to meet the spirit’s gaze, “What did I tell you about barging in here!”
“Never mind that!” Wuya points an accusing finger, “I just saw you levitating a bunch of objects!”
“Again?” the realization seeps into Jack’s brain and he shakes his head, “I mean, no I didn’t.”
Wuya gives him an unconvinced look.
“It was just..” Jack shuffles around the workdesk, “A new invention I’m creating! Uh…the Jack Spicer Evil Boy Genius..Floating..Device.”
“I’m a witch, Jack,” the spirit rolls her eyes, “I think I can recognize magic when I see it.”
“That would be if there was magic to see and-”
 “Jack!”
He squeals, his hands shielding his face, “Alright, Alright. You got me! I’m a wizard!”
“Wait a minute,” Wuya circles the boy,”You’re telling me that while you were building those useless robots,” her annoyance crescendoing as she continues, “You could’ve used magic the entire time?! Do you realize how big of an advantage that is?!”
“It’s not that simple!” Jack frantically explains, “Magic and I have a very complicated relationship I don’t feel like discussing right now!”
“Magic can take you a long way,” Wuya continues with a grin plastered on her face, “Think about it. My powers and yours conquering the world!”
“Not interested,” Jack dismisses her, swatting her away, “If I’m gonna rule the world, I’m gonna do it the mechanical way.”
“Hmph. How foolish.”
“I’ve got a reputation to keep up,” Jack explains, “It’s Evil Boy Genius, not Evil Boy Magician!”
Wuya peers over the inventor’s shoulder, “Is that so?”
“Sure is,” Jack nods, twisting in another screw,“And for the record, I think complex machinery is much more impressive than waving your hands around to do parlor tricks.”
“I can train you to do more than parlor tricks, Jack,” Wuya proposes with a wide grin, “I think you should know how far my credibility goes.”
“I’ll pass. I’ve had several magical tutors before. Not a fan.”
Wuya leans in closer, “Magical tutors?”
“Uh, yeah. My dad was really bent on me becoming a powerful wizard or whatever,” Jack shrugs, “So ever since I was 4, he made me study magic with these,” he air quotes, “World-renowned mages.”
The spirit narrows her eyes, “Tell me more.”
“It wasn’t all that, they were all just snobs in bathrobes, like my dad. It was torture! ‘Cast this! Levitate that! Turn this into that!’ Sometimes, I’d spend 5 hours a day, just trying to perfect the same spell.” His indifferent expression twists into a scowl and the grip on the wrench almost sears his palm, “ ‘Your form’s terrible, Jack! It’s not good enough, Jack! Do that 75 more times, Jack! And let’s add another 50 while we’re at it!’ ” His anger boils over and spills into his suppressed magic. The cold concrete rumbles beneath them, and the air is tinged with stings of electricity.
“It must’ve paid off,” Wuya says to herself more than him, “Your magical power is rather impressive, which is saying a lot.”
Jack rolls his eyes, “Anyways, I decided that I wouldn’t take it anymore! No more using magic!” the floor and the air returns to its usual stagnant chill. "And what’s the opposite of magic? Machinery and science!” he grins, “Turns out I’m really good at that too.”
“But you used magic,” Wuya crosses her ghostly arms, “Just now.”
“T-that doesn’t count!” Jack stammers, shaking his head, “I’ve been doing a better job of keeping it down, but I guess slip-ups are inevitable.”
The ghost sighs, “I just don’t understand how someone could choose scrap metal over mystical powers.”
“I’ll show you how!” Jack grins, “Introducing the new and improved Jack Spicer Evil Boy Genius Jack-Bot!” he smiles, “Isn’t it perfect?! Check this out!” He turns to the robot and smiles, “Can I get a slice of pizza?
“Here you are, Master,” the robot states, a tray protruding from its chest with a slice of pizza and glass of soda.
He snatches the plate and cup off the tray, “He’s got more food options now! Isn’t it cool?!”
Wuya simply groans, “If I didn’t see it with my own eyes, I would’ve never thought you had magic.”
“Good,” Jack sips his soda, “That’s the way I like it.”

Name: Tia Laverte. It's just a shortened version of Tiana and "Laverte" just means green in French
Inspiration: She's twisted from Tiana from the Princess and the Frog!
Birthday: She's 17 and she's born on December 28th. Her birthday would be closest to Lilia. However, I don't think they would hate each other, but I don't think they're friends either
Dorm: She's actually...in neither of them. She goes to a public school on Sage's Island. If she were to choose a dorm, she would probably choose Pomefiore.
Class: She doesn't go to their school but her agemate and friend would be Ruggie. They worked at the same restaurant and bonded really quickly. They usually go out for lunch breaks together since they can't really hang out due to their packed schedules.
Height: I would say about 5'7
Hair/Eye Color She's got dark brown hair and dark brown eyes.
Homeland: Port O Bliss, just like Sam. However, she doesn't know anybody else on Sage's Island comes from there (yet)
Club: Again, not an NRC student. But I think she would join Science Club for the same reason Trey did: it's what's most similar to cooking
Subject: At her school, it's Home Economics. If it was NRC, I think she would be good at Alchemy. Her worst subject would probably be flight class (cus she has no magic) but her worst class in her real school is probably PE
Hobby: As a Tiana OC, she of course loves cooking. She has a catering business that started out..pretty small. It was through word of mouth and Sage's Island is already very remote. However, after meeting Nikhil, business boomed. She became extremely popular at RSA. Although, she did avoid going to NRC not only because of the drive but because of the things she heard from the RSA kids about them. However she does have a frequent client from NRC: Leona. He tasted her food like once and now asks Ruggie to pick something up from her every week.
Petpeeves: Slacking off, cheating, and lying. (a little ironic considering who she hangs out with.) Ruggie and Leona are some of the BIGGEST offenders of this.
Food: Her favorite food is gumbo because it reminds her of her dad, who died a year before she moved to Sage's Island. Her least favorite is chocolate pudding because it reminds her of mud. Other than that, she's not really picky and will eat almost anything.
Talent: Cooking. You better believe Ruggie is first in line to try her food.
Unique Magic: She doesn't have one, since she's not magic.
Quote: "Love must conquer hate. All the time."
Personality: Tia is one of the most hardworking people ever, but she is independent to a fault. Rarely if ever does she let other people help her (at first). I guess the closest personality would again, be Ruggie.
Backstory: Her dad died at 16 while her mom was still working in a dress shop. That was probably the first time she ever cried since she was a baby, as Tia is suppresses her emotions a lot. One day at the dress shop, there was a rude mage customer who got into an argument with Tia's mom. She basically used magic to slam her into a wall, leaving Tia's mom with a gray streak in her hair and a large scar on her forehead. Her mother was offered another job on Sage's Island and the pay was too good not to refuse, that's why they moved. To this day, Tia refuses to talk about that incident to anybody. The only other person who knows what happened is Nikhil (my Naveen OC). She doesn't say it, but she doesn't like magic one bit. However, she says that she loves her friends more than she hates magic, which is why she will always show up for them.
Faves from each dorm: Deuce- means well and is very hard working, Ruggie- again, a hardworker which she respects and they have a lot in common! (she would think the entire octavinelle dorm is shady af but ig if she had to choose someone it would be azul) Jamil-appreciates his attention to detail Epel- emphasizes how he feels like a fish out of water sometimes Ortho- He's a nice little guy Silver- he's just very kind to everyone which Tia can get behind
Relationship: The only romantic relationship she's in is with Nikhil, who is my Naveen OC.
GET TO KNOW YOUR TWST OCs (and their relationships)
(Or how I make up excuses to blabber about my OC lol. Most of the "who" questions are aimed at the twst cast, but feel free to include other twst OCs as well!)

Inspiration: Is your twst OC inspired by any villains? Concepts? Anything Disney-related?
Age/Birthday: How old is your twst OC? When is their birthday? Whose birthday (among the cast) is closest to your twst OC's? Does the horoscope lie or do they get along well?
Dorm: Which dorm is your twst OC in? Why? Which qualities they have make them suitable for said dorm? Do they have a roommate and how is their relationship?
Class: Who is your twst OC's classmate(s)? How would you describe their relationship? Did they have different classmates in previous year and did they get along?
Height: How tall is your twst OC? Are they conscious about their height? Are they close to someone with similar leg length?

Homeland: Where is your twst OC from? Do they know anyone from the same hometown prior to NRC?
Club: Which club does your twst OC join and why? Is there anything memorable about the club fair day/their first day at the club? Which clubmate is their favorite?

Hobby: What are your twst OC's hobbies? Who among the cast will they possibly ask to join in their pastime?
Pet peeves: What are your twst OC's pet peeves and which one in the cast accidentally (or not) commit the "crimes"? How will your twst OC deal with that person?
Food: What is your twst OC's favorite and least favorite food? Why (optional)? Is there anyone they can share their favorite food? Is there anyone they can count on to take over the food they dislike?
Talent: What is your twst OC's talent(s) and who can properly appreciate that?
Unique Magic/Signature spell: What is your twst OC's UM (if applicable)? What can they do? What is the incantation? Is there any weaknesses/loopholes and who can exploit those?
Quote: Give me something your twst OC will say. Either something they always say or something iconic they said. Something that helps solve the problems or something that is a catalyst to even more issues.
(Ok I'm kinda running out of ideas here) Personality: Give me 3 adjectives to describe your twst OC. Or an essay. Whichever works. Whose personality among the cast is closest to your twst OC and do they get along?
Backstory: Tell me anything about your twst OC's backstory. Their childhood, their parents, their siblings etc. Does their backstory affect how they are as a character now and how they interact with the cast?
Pick only one: Let your twst OC pick only one and explain the reasons: only one favorite from each dorm, only one favorite housewarden/vice housewarden, only one favorite first/second/third year etc.
(For my beloved yume shippers) Partner: Who do you ship your twst OC with? Are they in a relationship? If yes, how did it start/end? If no, why?

Take Me Out to the Spell Game
My Tiana (Tia) and Naveen (Nikhil) OCs getting a feature
Warning: Implied prejudice and Angst
Synopsis: Tia and Nikhil visit NRC for a Spelldrive game, which brings some unpleasant memories with it.
Word Count: 3.5k
The afternoon is merciless. The heat stirs the thick atmosphere into a wavering mess. Even the cobblestone emits geysers of heat that blow onto Nikhil and Tia faces sticky with sweat. The sun nips at their obsidian and copper skin as they load the wide trunk with long trays of food. Despite its large size and sheen finish that twinkles in the sun, they truly regret having a black car on this day.
“Alright, the O trays are oxtail, C is chicken and L is lamb, and P are the plates and cutlery?” Nikhil confirms, stacking the last rectangular tray into the car.
“Yup,” Tia confirms, tying up her black high top laces.
“Only meat?”
“Yup.”
Nikhil pouts.
“Yes,” Tia reassures him with a kiss on the cheek and a pat on the head,  “I packed your eggplant parmesan. I also made some gumbo too, but it’s got shrimp in it.”
His perfect teeth shine with a grin, “You know me too well, Tia. However, I still don’t understand why he ordered so much meat.”
“Our clientele this time around leans more carnivorous,” Tia explains, “It was a lot of work, but I think the 3,500 dollars covers it just fine.”
“You’re really outstanding, Tia,” Nikhil beams, much warmer than the raging heat, “Cooking all of that. Sorry I was a hindrance to you.”
“What are you talking about?” Tia chuckles, “Cooking takes time and experience, don’t forget that. For your first time you did..”
“Okay?” he finishes with a hopeful smile.
“You didn’t even know how to hold the knife.”
“The grip is very confusing!”
Tia laughs, “It took you like ten minutes to hold the thing correctly,” she nudges Nikhil, “We gotta get you in the kitchen more often. One day..or year..you’ll get as experienced as me.”
“I bow to you,” he leans in to give her a kiss as arm wraps around her waist, “Queen of Cuisine.”
Tia returns the affection with a smile, “Such a flatterer, you.” Nikhil shuts the trunk as Tia enters the driver’s seat. With a turn of keys and a thrust of the engine, they’re on their way.
While driving, the air rumbles from the opened windows of the car. Nikhil basks in its deafening cries as he watches the buildings blur past. Tia is focused on the stretched road in front of her with one hand gripped onto the wheel.
“So..Night Raven College,” Nikhil begins, “I would’ve never thought I’d step on that campus ever.”
“In retrospect, I think you RSA guys were pushing it a little,” Tia shrugs, guiding the wheel left, “The way you were going on made me think I was going to get fexed.”
“Hexed.”
“Same difference.”
“To others, they’re rather decent, but to us, they’re complete,” Nikhil taps his chin, “What’s the word?”
“Assholes?”
“Yes, that.” Nikhil says, “They don’t even get along with each other. Like oil and water from what I’ve heard.”
“That’d make sense. Ruggie told me the same thing. Even in team sports?”
Nikhil nods.
“Well, that’s a shame. ‘Cause I expect to be cheering them on in uh..spellwhatever.”
“Spelldrive.”
“That’s what I meant.”
Nikhil glances at the large poster leaning on the back seat. The words “Go NRC!” were painted in large orange letters. Other orange accessories including sunglasses, a headband, and two bottles of face paint are scattered on the baked leather. Leaning on the driver’s seat, is a large foldable wagon whose black blends in with the rest of the car.
“You really went all out for them,” he looks at the signs and then at Tia.
“Ruggie and Leona are my friends.”
“I don't have anything against them,” Nikhil raises his palms in defense.
“I’d do the same for you, you know,” Tia adds, “Probably more.”
“You do enough, Tia,” Nikhil replies, gazing at her, “If anything, I owe you.”
She smiles, “I dunno, I think the luxury car is already a lot.”
The two finally arrive at Night Raven College. The castle’s plentiful summits loom over them with a frightening aura. However, Tia is too tired to be moved by any intimidation. They had found a spot a good mile from the campus. The idea of wearing face paint is already melting away in her mind. Even the thought of leaving the car drained her. “Man, it took forever to find parking,” Tia groans. The residual heat nibbles at Tia’s forehead as she rests it on the wheel, “Where the fuck are those guys?!”
“What guys?”
She picks up her phone from the cup holder and dials a number. After a minute, it goes to voicemail.
“Leona said some of the guys we’re supposed to help unload everything,” she explains, clicking off the phone and lifting her head from the wheel, “He gave me their numbers but they ain’t picking up.”
“Can’t we just leave them in the car?”
“I don’t plan on coming back until we finish our business here completely. You don’t want your customers to be waitin’ on you like that. And just imagining pulling that wagon is already stressin’ me out. ”
__________________________________________________________________
It was surprisingly easy to sneak onto campus at this time. Main Street is completely empty. This was one of NRC’s big games, so most of the students had made their way to the stadium. To their relief, the weather fares different here. The lazing breeze tiptoes along the blades of perfectly cut grass on either side of the stone pathway. The smell of spices trails behind them, teasing Tia’s stomach. They both take in the scenery while the wagon rolling behind Nikhil strains his arm.
“We’ve been walking forever,” Nikhil groans.
“Do you wanna switch?” Tia proposes, “I already told you I could pull the wagon.”
“It’s alright, you’ve worked so hard. It’s the least I can do..”
Tia scans the area, “Yeah, I think it’s safe to say we’re lost.” Just in the distance, Tia spots two blurry figures approaching them. Oh shit. Real students.
“I think the smell is coming from over there, Jamil!” an eager voice shouts, pointing to them. Tia and Nikhil notice the two boys approaching them. Tia squints at them, hoping for the slim chance it was someone she knew as they came closer. Nope.
“If we run away, we just look more suspicious,” Nikhil hisses to Tia, “Don’t worry, I got this.”
“Hello,” Nikhil greets with a smile, “Are you guys headed to the Spelldrive game too?”
“Well, we were,” Kalim explains with a sigh, “But I forgot one of my lucky bracelets and we had to go back and-”
Jamil sighs, “I think that’s more detail than needed.”
Kalim’s scarlet eyes squint, “Do we know you guys?”
“Don’t you remember me, Kalim?” Nikhil flashes a smile, “Those diplomatic meetings? When we used to visit each other as children?”
Jamil’s eyes flash with realization, “You’re Prince Nikhil!”
“There we go!”
“Ah, of course I remember you!” Kalim laughs, the tingle of his abundant jewelry shaking with his shoulders, “I think. I’m sorry, I’m terrible with faces. And names.”
“No worries, my friend,” Nikhil beams, “All water under the bridge.”
“So then,” Jamil adds,  “You two are together.”
“Yeah, I’m his girlfriend,” Tia nods, “We’re just looking for Savanaclaw, then we’re headed to the big game going on.”
“No way,” Kalim replies, “So are we!”
“This is for Leona?” Jamil notes.
“It’s for after the game,” Tia beams with passion, “He paid me to cook some food for his team. I figured we’d get tickets and see what the hype’s all about.”
“You made all that food by yourself?!” Kalim gasps.
“Basically.”
“That’s very impressive,” Jamil comments with a piqued eyebrow.
“Well, we can definitely take you to Savanaclaw!” Kalim offers with a wide smile, “We’ll be your personal escorts!”
“One question,” Jamil clarifies, “Where in Savanaclaw are you putting all that food?”
“Huh?”
“Dorms are pocket dimensions, so they’re rather expansive,” Jamil explains, “Did he tell you where to put them specifically?”
“I..don’t think so. We technically weren’t the ones who were supposed to bring the food,” Tia explains with a sigh, “Some Savanaclaw students were supposed to pick it up from our parking spot, but after calling them several times, they didn’t answer.”
“So you came to campus to drop it off yourself.”
“Exactly.”
“In that case,” Kalim suggests, “We can hold the food for you. We were heading to the game anyway, so you won’t have to worry about losing us. ”
“Wow, that’s perfect,” Nikhil says, “Just our luck, huh, Tia?”
“Do you want us to carry that for you?” Jamil suggests, eying the wagon bulging with food,“It’d be much easier for you guys if we just levitate it.”
“Nah, it’s cool,” Tia takes the wagon handle from Nikhil, “I got it.”
“Oh, come on,” Kalim insists, “It looks so heavy. You’re here to relax and have fun, so you shouldn’t push yourself too much.”
“I don’t think pulling a wagon is pushing myself ,” Tia states bluntly.
Before Kalim can say anything else, Jamil places a hand on his shoulder, letting him know to just leave it alone, “Alright. No problem at all.”
__________________________________________________________________
Kalim and Jamil lead Tia and Nikhil to the Hall of Mirrors. Tia admires the domed ceiling gazing down on them. The white marble paves a glossy path to seven mirrors lined along the concave walls.
“Would you mind handing me your wagon?” Jamil requests.
Tia tugs the wagon into his hand, “Yeah, okay.”  He pulls it to one of the mirrors and stands, as if he’s waiting for someone. “Oh, and it’s best if you stay hidden. It’s risky to let other students see you here.” Fair point. They are technically trespassing. With an understanding nod, Tia and Nikhil exit the Hall and wait outside behind the entrance’s gilded border.
Just as Jamil glances his phone, someone emerges from the murky black of the mirror.
“Jamil,” the student says, “I got your text. What’d you need me for?”
“Perfect timing. I’m keeping something for a friend,” he gestures to the wagon, “Would you mind holding it in the lounge area? And tell all of the guys not to lay a finger on it. ”
“Yeah, sure.” The student waves a pen and the wagon hoists itself into the air, “Thanks for the study guide, by the way.
“Yeah, anytime.”
“Are you sure you don’t wanna go to the game?” Kalim asks, “We’d love to have you!”
“I appreciate the offer,” the student sighs, scratching their head, “But I’m also flunking ancient magic so I think it’s best to sit this one out.”
“Aw, alright. We’ll miss you anyway!” The student gives a small wave goodbye and phases through the mirror with the wagon.
“My fooood,” Tia whispers with a pout.
Jamil returns outside with Kalim, “It’s best we start heading to the game now.  You wouldn’t want to be late.” __________________________________________________________________
Not a single inch of the bleachers is seen beneath the cramped spectators.  The thick wall of body heat and sun rays dampen their senses as they trudge through. Tia squeezes the large “Go NRC!” sign between her side and armpit, weaving it through the spectators with care. Finally, they find a seat and prepare themselves to watch the game. Tia flaps the bottom of her purple T-shirt and dusts off her jean shorts. She had already donned a black headband in front of her coiled bun, topped with violet pom-poms that rustle in the weak wind. Nikhil wears an identical outfit, but instead of a headband, he has black sunglasses that completely obscures his chestnut eyes.
“I didn’t know you were such a big fan of our school,” Kalim finally comments, “You come here often?”
“I’ve never been to a game like this in my life,” Tia admits, “But Nikhil told me all the rules, so I should be able to follow.”
“Ladies and gentleman!” The emcee’s announcement resonates throughout the stadium, “Welcome all to the International College Division Spelldrive Semi-Finals!”
Clamorous cheer rumbles throughout the stadium.
“On today’s playing field, we have two powerhouse schools with some of the most promising mages in all of Twisted Wonderland!”
The crowd’s rambunctious cheering echoes through the air.
“Now, now,” the emcee says, “I’d save my voice if I were you. With these guys, there’ll be plenty more opportunities to cheer with the action we’re about to get! So let’s get to good stuff,  shall we? Although this city is known for beautiful flowers and scenery, these guys are tough as their cobblestone streets! Hailing from Fleur City, Shaftlands: Noble Bell College!”
A stream of crimson jackets and brooms split through the air like darts. They disperse through the field and establish their positions to guard their post.
“Hey,” Nikhil nudges Tia, “You said you’ve always wanted to go there, right?”
“They had a lotta good food I heard,” Tia nods, “Especially their pastries.”
The emcee continues with an accelerated voice, “Great magic is woven into this island’s history, and this school is no exception. Infamously part of the Big Two of all arcane academies, introducing our home team, Night! Raven! Collegeeee!”
The ground quakes beneath their feet as the crowd cheers louder than before.
Tia shields her eyes from the sun, “Wait! I think I see Ruggie and Leona!” Tia shouts, waving her sign, “Knock ‘em dead out there!”
“You’re rather passionate,” Nikhil notes with a teasing smile.
“We paid money for this,” Tia answers, continuing to display her sign, “We might as well be.”
The whistle blows and the players are off. Without a second thought the disk blazes scarlet in NBC’s possession. One of the crimson players weaves through the defense, met with brute force and magic. The air around him is hot with raging spells . The wind barks at him and tugs at the earpiece of his goggles. He glances to the side for a moment. His heart squeezes. Where did the disk go?
“And that’s an interception by the Disk Thief!” the emcee announces, “What a steal!” The crowd bursts into uproar. They watch the hyena zoom away with the disk in his magic’s grasp.
“That was cool!” Kalim cheers.
A hoard of crimson and black speed towards Ruggie. Spells bloom from each player’s hand. firing in his direction. Their magic snips at his ears as he effortlessly weaves through every spell. The offense starts to consolidate into one condensed attack. Ruggie furrows his eyebrows: too many all at once. Even he can’t dodge that many. His eyes dart side to side. Right there.
The disk hurls toward a lavender-haired boy with blurring speed. He catches within his spell and zooms off without another second.
“I think that’s Epel,” Jamil points out, “He is pretty fast.”
“He’s almost as fast as Ruggie,” Kalim ooes.
The boy’s small stature is able to easily slip through the opponents like a thread through a needle. His small ponytail flails in the racing winds  as spells streak past him. The goalpoast inches closer with each ticking second. Epel cocks back his arm to launch the disk.
A crimson shape launches himself right in front of Epel. For a split second, the spell encasing the disk flickers. The NBC player reaches for the disk, closing in the space between him and Epel. Before he can get another look, a spell blazes toward them. He quickly jerks his broom away, watching the spell evaporate.  It was a distraction. When they snap their heads around, they find the disk to be whisked away by someone else’s magic.
The disk hovers in Leona’s spell, The surrounding magic erupts into a roaring aura. With a flick of his hand, Leona launches it toward the goalpost.  Its raging heat stings as it splits the air, stinging the nearby players. Two of the defenders steady their positions and narrow their eyes at the disk. The disk gets closer. Closer. An inkling of doubt seeps into their mind. There is no way they can stop that thing. As soon as the heat prickles against their skin, the two players jet apart like repelling magnets. The disk  zips through the goalpost and the engraved lights pulse with violet.
“And that’s the first point of game Night Raven College 5, Noble College, zero!
Even Nikhil is thoroughly impressed, “Your friends are amazing, Tia!” His smile shrinks when he notices her blank face. “Tia?” The boisterous cheers simmer into a small hum as a backdrop  to her thoughts.
A flash of white stings her eyes like a hornet. “Mama, what did she do to you?!”  Tia shrieked that day. She brushed her fingers over the woman propped on the rubbled counter. “Stay strong, please!”
“Tia, it’s alright,” she croaks,  “It’s alright.”
Tia shakes her head, “Sorry. Zoned out.”
_______________________________________________________
85-10. That was the final score. Now Tia understands why all those seats were full and why Night Raven College was considered to be part of the Big Two. Not important now, all that’s needed to do is sit back and relax in the Savanaclaw lounge. The waterfall cascades down the rocks. Palm trees cast a cool shadow over the commotion hoarding the trays of food aligned on the table. There was only a veil of order, as each victorious player hoards the With enough pleading and an ever-so convincing pair of Kalim’s puppy eyes, even the two Scarabia students had stayed over for the meal.
“You really outdid yourself again, Tia,” Leona swallows, “It tastes even better than I imagined.”
“My pleasure,” Tia smiles, “You guys did so amazing! You were all like, so fast and stuff!”
“We’re glad we could put on a show for you,” Ruggie snickers, holding a mountain of meat on his plate, “I hope you enjoyed it.”
For a moment, Tia blanks. “I talked to the boss, Tia. He said there ain’t nothin’ he can do about it. Just our luck, she was one of the elites and he already running low on money.  That’s just fine. We not gonna take his money any more. We’re gonna hold our heads up high and go somewhere else.”
“Tia?” Ruggie asks, “You good?”
She smiles brightly, “Yeah, I’m fine. ”
After some conversation and gossip about work, Tia finds herself a seat on one of the couches perched on the rocks overlooking the lounge. She basks in the cool shadow of the curtains. She heaves a deep sigh: this was more overwhelming than expected.
“Tia,” Nikhil taps a finger on her shoulder, “I wanted to make sure you’re okay.” He finds a seat next to her with the eggplant parmesan in his lap.
“Yeah?” Tia swallows a spoonful of gumbo and rice she packed, “About what?”
“About today. This whole thing.”
She tilts her head.
“I know,” Nikhil pauses, “That you still harbor bad feelings toward magic.”
Tia purses her lips.
“There’s no problem with that!” Nikhil quickly reassures her, “You have valid reasons for it.”
Tia presses her thumb on the plastic utensil, “What does it matter?”
“I guess I just wanted to say I was proud that you came here despite it. Seriously. You even made all that food for them. So then forgive me for asking…but what made you change your mind?”
“Change my mind?” Tia raises an eyebrow, setting her plate on the table in front of her, “As soon as Leona requested my services, I accepted. You know I’d never decline a business opportunity.”
“But that’s only a small fraction of it,” Nikhil deduces, “Isn’t it?”
Her gaze drifts to the students clamoring over the trays arrayed before them. Each of them wear not only black and purple uniforms but also warm smiles, which is a rare sight for the NRC student body.
“You see them, Nikhil?” Tia points with her eyebrows.
He stares in the same direction as Tia, “See what?”
“Look how happy they are,” she smiles, “If there’s one thing food does, it's unite people. Mages or not. I think my time on Sage’s Island has made me realize there’s not much difference between us emotionally.” The shine in her eyes flickers like a dying candle, “But to be completely honest with you, ever since my mom got into that fight with the mage lady and we had to move, I’ve never really felt safe with magic. Still don’t.” She crosses her arms, “I’m not sure if I’ll..really appreciate it the way you guys do.”
The way Tia describes that fateful incident leaves Nikhil with an icky feeling. He’s unable to describe it, but it could be compared to being submerged in a swamp of guilt. Tia..was such a good person. In all of his life founded on wealth and luxury, he has never met someone who cares the way Tia does. Who works the way she does. All you can do is admire how she dices the onions without a single tear. It is a shame that he knows somewhere, deep inside, her heart cries into numbing aches. Yet all he can do is hold her hand.
“But no matter how I feel about magic,” a soft smile pulls at the corners of her mouth, “It’ll never overcome my love for the people I care about,” Tia steals a kiss from Nikhil, “Ever.”

A Pirate's Resolve: Leona Pirate AU
My first post here!! This here is the first chapter and I plan on continuing depending on how well this does. I do have an AO3 with an even bigger fic called Book 8: The Abandoned! If you're interested in Yuu and Grim centric fics, I would give that a read ^^ ! Things have been slow as of late but I plan on updating in the next few weeks.
Notes: This is set in July 1697
TW: Blood and Violence (I've never posted on here before so, not sure how warnings work here)
Synopsis: Leona Kingscholar, an outcasted prince, finds his pack in a pirate crew of mages. He hopes to collect all the spells he can in order to take back what’s his: the throne to Sunset Savanna. With his crew of some of the most powerful wizards in Twisted Wonderland, what could possibly go wrong? Famous last words.
The seagull’s crows echo through the still harbor. The wooden docks stretch out to the sea, waiting until its planks crack and its nails rot with rust. The glistening waters oscillate and stinging salty breeze lazes around the port. Deeper in the town, the narrow cobblestone streets bake in the sunlight, however there are no children or adults on any of them.
“Wow, Leona” Ruggie notes as they stroll along the sidewalk, “This place is a lot more desolate than I thought.”
“Figured,” Leona shrugs, “This island is practically in the middle of nowhere. We’re just here to rest up before we take care of business. All the other guys should be taking care of the supplies right now.”
“Then we head out?”
“Yup. There’s something specifically I’m looking for in-”
A loud squelch cuts into their conversation.
“Like some food?” Ruggie sighs, rubbing his stomach, “Before we talk about business, can we at least grab a bite?”
Leona rolls his eyes.
“Oh come on!”  Ruggie protests, “ ‘S not like we’re doing anything special. You only came out ‘cause everyone asked you too.”
Leona places a hand on his forehead and grumbles, “I was just trying to find a nicer place to sleep.”
“But you’ll sleep even easier once your stomach’s full,” Ruggie adds, “Come on, let’s find somewhere nice and quick.”
Leona grumbles, “Whatever shuts ya up.”
Along their search, they find a pub sandwiched between a bakery and a blacksmith store. There’s a thick scent of beer blended with the stench of waxed wood that pierces their sensitive noses. However, it is not unfamiliar to them and it's the ones that smell the worst with the most promising nourishment.
Leona and Ruggie take a seat at the bar, and a man in an ivory apron approaches them with pinched eyebrows.
“Whaddya want?” the bartender asks with a chipped snarl.  Bruised bags slouch along the bottom of his eyes, a large contrast to his pale skin.
“Two meat pies,” Ruggie answers. With a grunt, he disappears into a dark corridor behind the bar.
It’s just them and the library of liquor arranged behind the counter.
“So,” Ruggie continues, “When will we reach the destination?”
“If the Sea Witch is in our favor,” Leona guesses, tapping a chin, “I’d say five or six days.”
Ruggie raises his eyebrows, “Not bad.”
“Yeah,” Leona sighs, “Our last visit took us a week and half’s voyage. More nappin’ time for me anyway.”
“For all that trouble, I better not have a hard time when we get there,” Ruggie pouts, “Those patrollers were awfully close back in the Sunshine Lands.”
“Awww,” Leona teases, pulling at Ruggie’s cheek, “Don’t tell me you’re losing your touch already.”
Ruggie gives a scoff and swats his hand away, “I’m not. You know, the best part is about being on a remote island,” he adds, “Is that no one knows who we are. It’s nice to not worry about people chasin’ ya once in a while. Or running in fear.”
Leona chuckles, “Is that so? I take it as a compliment.”
“It gets a little annoying,” Ruggie admits with a shrug, “Everyone’s too scared to tell us where all the good places to eat are.”
“Always thinkin’ with your stomach.”
“It’s my most admirable quality,” Ruggie grins.
“Here,” the bartender grunts, “Two meat pies.” He slams the two plates on the counter and returns to the kitchen. The pastries glisten like gold in the flickering amber light. There’s a thick aroma that wanders into their nose and rattles their stomach.
“Smells good,” Ruggie fans the aroma with his hand.
“Tch. But that asshole didn’t even get us forks,” Leona scoffs, “Ruggie, call ‘em over.”
Ruggie rolls his eyes and raises a hand, “Hey! Where’re the forks?!”
“I could use a beer too while we're at it.”
“And a beer too!”
The bartender thumps to the bar and hammers a fist onto the counter, “Shut yer traps!”
“Maybe when you start doing your job!” Ruggie retorts, “How do you bring food out with no cutlery?! What am I supposed to do with it?!”
“Eat from the plate,” he snorts, glaring at their ears, “Ain’t that what animals do?”
Ruggie raises an eyebrow and glances at Leona, waiting for a signal.
“You were right before,” he smiles, “He really doesn’t know who we are.” He nudges Ruggie with his boot.
Ruggie makes a small gesture under the counter, the bartender’s arms snap to his sides like a soldier.
Something shiny catches Leona’s attention,“Well..would you look at that,” he smiles, waving his tail,  “They keep all the cutlery right behind the counter.”
“Oh, that’s great,” Ruggie extends an arm. The bartender watches in horror as he does the same, “So you wouldn’t mind getting them for us, would ya?” He clumsily grabs the forks and looks at them clatter onto the counter.
“Thanks,” Leona yawns, “But I’m not satisfied yet.”
“That’s funny. I ain’t either.”
Leona’s emerald eyes spark with a sinister glow, “I think I see a knife over there, Ruggie.” Leona pushes aside the platter to the counter’s edge, “Let ‘em grab that for us too.”
The bartender places one hand onto the counter and snatches a steak knife with the other. Its tip hovers above the frozen back of his hand. Bullets of sweat itch his patchy beard.
Ruggie pounds his fist into the back of his hand. With a swift motion, the knife plunges into the bartender’s.
He watches the blood flush the white of his hand with crimson. It puddles around his hand and crawls along the mahogany counter. Agonizing pain yanks and tears at his nerves. He wanted to scream. He wanted to curse. Yet he couldn’t. Tears dribble from his eyes and roll down his face, teasing his quivering lips.
With a wave of Leona’s hand, the platter slides back in front of him and Ruggie. The hyena snaps his fingers, releasing the bartender from his spell. The bartender quickly pushes a hand on the wound, but blood still spills through the spaces between his fingers.
“You’re,” he stammers, squeezing his eyes shut, “I thought wizards were myths.”
Ruggie and Leona simply take the forks and dig into their meal. For all his attitude, they did make a good meat pie.
“You still didn’t get me my beer,” Leona chews, dismissing the sniffling waiter, “But I don’t want blood in my drink so I’ll give ya a pass.”
“You bastard!” the bartender bellows, “You should-”
“Be quiet,” Leona finishes, flicking a finger in his direction. A wisp of gold erodes his lips into nothing but skin, “Ancient hex. ‘Case you were wondering.”
Once they swallow the last morsel of their food, Leona finally says, “Consider my payment not killing your ass,” his slitted eyes sting the bartender into a silent tremor, “Believe me, we could do so much worse.”
The stools screech against the wax as they rise from their seats and leave without another word.
“Wow, he had nerve. I’ll give him that,” Ruggie snickers, “Wish you had done the one where he vomits maggots. That’s always a fun one.”
“I was thinkin’ of that. Maybe I’ll consider it the next time someone pisses me off.”
“Captain!” one of his crew members shouts, jogging to them with some other beastmen, “We’ve been lookin’ for ya!
“We got great news!” one of their ears twitch, “We found a buncha supplies!”
“Enough to last us for three months and some change,” another adds, “All the rest of the guys are loadin’ the ship.”
“For such a desolate place, it sure had a lot of stuff,” Leona nods,
“Hope you guys enjoyed yourselves.”
“Sure did!”
Leona gives a sharp smirk, “Good. Then I expect your best performance at our next stop: the Land of Pyroxene.”
