Excerpts from researcher: “I wasn’t sure what to expect when I found the creature. According to the wanderer I spoke with, Stygian is very friendly, so long as you’re not being mean or threatening. Another wanderer informed me of what it considers food. A wretch is half a step away from human. Anything strong enough to take down a skin stealer is terrifying on its own. To say this made me nervous was an understatement.”

“I admit, I instinctively backed away as it tried to approach me. It seemingly understood and it just laid back down. Eventually I worked up the courage to approach it. Remembering something else the man told me, I held out my hand towards its face. It happily accepted the affection. The genuine smile it has looks so human that I almost forgot I was essentially putting my hand on a bear trap. As per my instructions I told it that I wanted to explore but I didn’t feel safe going alone. I asked if it would come with me and it nodded at me. It’s both reassuring and deeply unsettling that it can understand what I’m saying.”
