I would have been obsessed with G5 Comet as a kid. He's neon blue, purple, and made of crystals and glitter. That's peak little kids toy. He and my G3 Sparkleworks would be married I think.

I keep thinking about how Cassie absolutely should have hated David from the start. He kept a devenomed Cobra in his room. Loose. No enclosure or anything, just in a shoe box? Cassie's whole thing is being the Tree Hugger who feels empathy for all animals. Why was her only opinion on the cobra "he has good taste in comics" in regards to it being named Spawn? She of all characters should have disliked him immediately. It's a very strange choice for it to be Marco who beefs with him immediately.
Also as an Animal Nerd it does make me grind my teeth sometimes. Why does Rachel comment on how alligators can't climb. They can, quite well actually? So many moments in these books make me go "erm, well actually ☝️🤓" like wdym the piranhas are a frothing mass in the water. Why are the wolves lead by Alphas. That's not how that works. Surely our understanding of animals was better than this in the 90s

I've been rereading the Animorphs books at work during my free time. Something I've noticed is that when people say "animorphing" they usually mean a gradient transition like the covers. But in the books it's very consistent that the morphs aren't. Cassie is a talented morpher and even she has "gross" morphs. It's a very big point that the morphing technology is bizarre and nonsensical. Morphing flies and having the first change be your eyes popping out into compound eyes. Morphing birds and your finger bones slipping out of your skin before any muscle or feathers morph. I don't have a point to this I've just been thinking about it. I also forgot how much emphasis she puts on the kids hearing their body rearranging and that distant pain of "this should hurt but it doesn't"

yall gotta learn the difference between "this character is an asshole" and "this character was supposed to be super cool but the author is an asshole" and "this character is a teenage girl who was mean once"

Yellowfang is one of my all time favorites from the original series. I’ve always seen her as an exotic type cat, and based her overflowing fur on a beautiful reference:

Dovewing! I wanted to give her a 2.0 because I wasn't feeling satisfied with the execution of her innitial design, so this is more like a second pass than a second actual redesign. Dovewing is the daughter of Whitewing and Birchfall, sister to Ivypool, mate of Tigerstar II and mom of Shadowsight, Lightleap, Pouncestep, Rowankit, and Birchfeather. I've come to appreciate her over time, I think my appreciation of her suffered because of the pacing and development in the Omen of the Stars Arc, which no character should be held to that standard forever haha. I think she is actually a pretty wise cat, and at the same time deserves to live her girl life.

Crookedstar 2.0! He is one of my top 5 all time warriorcats, and I'm grateful I was able to complete a project with him as a focus character. This is mostly just a color adjustment update, with more written information about key design elements. It can be hard to walk the line between light brown and pale ginger, so I adjusted his secondary and tertiary colors darker and less saturated to fully seat them in the brown and not ginger category. Additional construction and story notes under the cut.
I also went through some veterinary studies on common jaw breaks in cats and how to treat them, and learned some interesting (probably cursory) stuff! Apparently the symphysis joint where the right and left jaw meet in the middle doesn't fuse as strongly in cats as it does in dogs or people, and can become porous with poor health or age, as well as very commonly shears when cats break their jaws. Some of the images I reviewed just the symphysis joint was torn, and in others it was part of a larger compound fracture. in modern veterinary medicine pins can be used externally to stabilize fractured jaws, or if it's just an issue with the symphysis they can actually tie both bones back together with basically a sterile twist tie and the two sides stabilize each other. With that in mind, I outlined some thoughts about how one might possibly conceptualize Crookestar's broken jaw (this is not the only way, just what I came up with):
Also purely for my own entertainment I wanted to illustrate what it might look like to draw or animate Stormkit in the moments after his accident. I of course think any art is up to interpretation and this is just mine, but also! I'm morbidly curious about how Brambleberry in particular might have helped him recover from such an injury, taking inspiration from the little I know about veterinary jaw surgery haha and the limited resources she has to work with:
