One of the most frequent objections I get to tabletop RPG setting ideas is "hold on, that doesn't make sense because on a global scale" like, buddy, the idea that an entire planet is the minimum acceptable scale for a tabletop RPG setting is marketing. Even the big boys like White Wolf and Wizards of the Coast typically don't manage it – they often claim to, but if you look at the actual, published material, the elaborated bits of the setting in question consist of like one city and its immediate environs, with every other locale treated as a glorified truck stop. Mainstream fantasy lit rarely does better; when you look at the ground that ostensibly multiverse-spanning saga covers in detail, you usually end up with about three medium-size neighbourhoods and some generic wilderness. Hell, fucking Tolkien struggled to adequately give life to a setting roughly the size of France, and he devoted fifty years of his life to it. Don't be afraid to zoom in.

no one ever warns you about this about adulthood but no one tells you how important surfaces become to you. like it's a perpetual struggle to get enough surfaces in your life and then in turn keeping those surfaces clean

"Look at me."
I had this scene in my mind since I read the first chapter of 'Asunder'. Gonna finish it someday, but I'm already happy with this :D

Something I think about a lot is how the dream the Warden had when they were trapped in the Fade could have been so much more personal.
Demons are masters of manipulation and temptation and I don’t think the Sloth demon would have just given the Warden a dream about Duncan and hoped that would work.
Cousland, waking to a beautiful morning in Highever, the troubles of the waking world nothing but a bad dream they can’t really recall. Their father and brother have returned from Ostagar, the darkspawn were easily dealt with. It’s a joyous day of festivity and celebration in Castle Cousland and everything is as it should be. But they can’t shake the feeling of grief in the pit of their stomach…
Mahariel hears the creaking of the aravels as they move through the forest. They’ve fallen asleep on their halla again, Tamlen complains about having to keep them from falling off and laughs about how they could even have fallen asleep like that. Mahariel starts to respond with their usual affectionate annoyance but stops when they look at Tamlen and can only think thank the creators he’s safe….but of course he’s safe why wouldn’t he be? They banter with their friend as their clan continues to trek through the forest but their instincts tell them that something isn’t right.
Amell and Surana have been to the fade before, they’re more guarded when it comes to demons. When the Sloth demon shows them a dream in which they’ve been freed from the circle it doesn’t take them long to realize that they’re being tricked. After all when they tried to visit their family after leaving the circle the demon kept having to keep them from doing so….Amell and Surana don’t even remember what their family looks like so the demon can’t know either.
(feel free to add the others! I’m not quite as familiar with those origins!)

How much canon knowledge is there about Anders' escape attempts and his punishments? I don't seem to be able to find much and WOT isn't 100 % accurate, right? Your thoughts?
Actually World of Thedas is the most reliable source so far, but you are right: it’s written in the perspective of a Chantry scholar and therefore has Chantry prejudice, especially towards Anders (as you would expect).
Here is what I do know though:
Anders made a total of 7 escape attempts.
World of Thedas Vol.2
Anders was taken to the Circle when he was 12 years old, he made his first escape attempt 6 months after.
When Irving asked why he had tried to escape, Anders simply stated that he wanted to go home and Irving took pity on him.
Anders made no more escape attempts for a year.
His second escape, it took the Templars 3 weeks to find him.
His third attempt, it took them an entire month.
When Anders and Karl became friends and later more, Anders did not make any escape attempts.
When Irving transferred Karl to Kirkwall, he worried Anders might try to escape and assigned him Templar bodyguards.
It was only after the Templar assignment Anders escaped again and he was caught in West Hill, trying to get passage to Kirkwall.
On his sixth escape attempt, Anders was brought back and stuck in solitary confinement for an entire year. **Take note that solitary for even just a day can cause psychological issues, one study showed that monkeys placed in solitary for a year lost all ability to socially interact and another on consenting humans was only able to last for a week.
After being let out of solitary, Anders escaped for the last time.
Witch Hunt
Finn mentions a mage tried to escape during outdoor exercise time, the mage jumped off the dock and begun swimming to the other shore. The Templars could not go after him with their armor and only found him a week later. This was one of Anders’ escape attempts and afterwards all mages were restricted from outdoor access.
This was likely 4th, 5th, or 6th escape, as it was only after Anders’ 2nd attempt that Irving tried implementing outdoor activities for apprentices and Finn hadn’t heard of Anders after his last attempt. Meaning there was an attempt(s) made after it.
