my take on modern ride the cyclone is that everyone in one way or another pities misha for being a refugee. except for noel. when he hears that misha's from ukraine, he goes "OMG EUROPE??" and just melts from jealousy that misha got to grow up by the sea. absolutely loses it when he finds out misha's hometown is big on old cinematography and noir aesthetic. he genuienly says that misha is so fucking privileged to have grown up there, and everyone in the choir thinks noel is being tone deaf as fuck, and maybe he is, but misha loves it. he helps noel with writing his stories, set in post-war times, and they have the time of their lives
