Had to draw him to get him out of my head, its gotten so bad I heard my math teacher utter the word “wavelength” and I (and I wish I was kidding) had a heart palpitation and almost yelped. Mind you, I was actively doodling him getting hit with a snowball. There’s my embarrassing hyperfix moment of the week, also I head a dream that was a still image of him with the MLP Equestria girls music playing behind it (also had the same dream with Everett TMK but that’s besides the point). Hi! It's a hard question, I don't want to say no outright, but there's a low chance that we're updating it any time soon. We still love this story dearly and we'd also love to have it written out, but life is getting in the way of a lot of things :// maybe we'll pick it up one day (the story elements are all thought of, we'd just have to write them out) but even then, there won't be any rapid updates

heroism, gender, and home (the transfem vyncent analysis post)

when we look at fighting (and adventuring/heroism, by extension) as an expectation of masculinity vyncent's relation to it becomes like 10x more complicated. like yeah its the job of his father and his fathers friends and his fathers father, and when we view it like that it colours his early season 1 interactions differently

POINT ONE: insecurity in ability. vyncent being on prime is significant to how he views and performs masculinity. for once, there are different rules on how to Do gender, all while his dads friends watch him fumble with them. suddenly vyncent is overly violent. it doesn't matter that he doesn't really Care for training or fighting in the first place, because, for the first time, the performance of his gender is being scrutinized, and it says hes Failing.

so vyncent lags behind and lets the greats do all the fighting. then, when the greats leave, without giving him a crutch to continue posing himself as a Powerful and Capable Fighter (and therefore a Convincingly Cis Male) we see how genuinely insecure vyncent is of his own place within his body and his "role" as a hero. which paints it more like: Oh, vyncent, kind of funny that you use and rely on the hyper-masculine guys in your head as a shortcut to perform masculinity because of your deep discomfort within it. whats up with that? POINT TWO: that elf has 2 names

POINT THREE: directionlessness before self invention. vyncent doesn't have direction for himself outside of his alters and his job. both of which he did not choose. the Only thing vyncent has chosen is his friends (which: Aw) but in the context of his gender, it implies some sort of upset with the expectations of who vyncent Should be, which are intertwined with what he thinks he should want. it has Undertones. POINT FOUR: so you left home and now home isn't enough. vyncent's struggle with fauna/prime (and his names) is definitely more immigrant than transgender but stick with me here they can be both. vyncent spends almost the entire show wanting to go back home until he actually goes home and realizes hes changed too much to fit there again.

he's adapted to knowing (and failing) primes rules for heroism (masculinity) instead of going along with fauna's rules for the sake of his family. it's knowledge that can't be taken back. leaving home means being aware of the Glaring feeling of inadequacy he has towards facing who hes supposed to be and, despite the initial discomfort, he chooses it. he chooses the uncertainty, makes a home in it.

vyncent going to college instead of committing to heroism is significant-- he's exploring who he is, outside of the ways his life and body are not his own. this isn't an uncommon story: someone goes away after high school and meets other queer people and realizes they are queer and suddenly going (or staying) home is a lot more difficult.
