For those who follow me for non-FFXIV reasons, I bring a crumb of internet drama to your door:

As with a lot of MMOs, roleplaying is a big thing. A BIG thing. Another big thing is the modding scene, so you can get your character looking just how you like. Squeenix does not best love mods, but it's broadly a don't-ask-don't-tell situation: as long as your mods don't give you an unfair advantage and you don't rub them in anyone's face, they'll look the other way

Guess what's the explicit direct polar opposite of not rubbing it in anyone's face

Buying four entire billboards in a major US city about it

A roleplay group bought out multiple billboards to advertise an event, and used both a modded screenshot (edit: that apparently uses a datamined unreleased outfit holy shit) and the official game logo on it

This Has Gone Well For Them and last I heard people had been banned temporarily over it pending more severe action, the modding scene is having very real fears that Squeenix will crack down on mod use over it, and apparently the organizers are pitching a hissy on their discord

The reason people portray it that way is probably because the books themselves do when Jayfeather checks into her mind to find out. he describes it as Hollyleaf being extremely skilled in not letting her fur brush against anything or step into anything that may alert Ashfur of her presence, and the way he describes it it was a pretty quick-ish dead all things considered and he does say "as if Ashfur was nothing but prey".

I like this explanation more too, don't get me wrong, but the books do push the idea of Hollyleaf having been very skilled when killing him.

ppl always portray hollyleaf as like really skilled n sneaky when she kills ashfur, like some kind of hired assassin or something, and that’s cool an all like as she deserves but i think. i think that the scene would carry more weight if you remember that she was far younger than ashfur, far less experienced, probably smaller, and like she has never killed anyone before she doesn’t have any idea what she’s doing. also she’s scared out of her mind. like she hates ashfur but she’s also afraid of him. like the fight was probably messy and awful. and ashfur’s death was probably slow and painful. i just like imagine that hollyleaf is struggling to kill him and almost starting to regret it halfway through but it’s too late and ugh like it really fucked her up so. it was probably awful.
