diary: nov 23 and 25th

…I guess I never finished that entry. But I really ought to keep a diary. Let me try again.
Two days ago, I left Rollbar. I am going to take 3 months for myself. Well, given that I will spend a large part of these 3 months interviewing and preparing for job interviews, which is not something I would normally do, this time is not exactly for myself. But I will make sure to leave plenty of time for myself. To explore London, to learn new things, and maybe build something.
I had the thought of resurrecting ughMoney, and I still might. I got Dan’s blessing. But that would mean getting into full-stack stuff, which would be fun (because I want to be able to build products that serve my own needs) but a bit far from my SRE world.
I also had the thought of just playing with Golang more (or Rust). For example, at my 2021 Recurse batch I started implementing Bitcask in Golang. I could continue that, and then maybe move on to a more complex log-structured database, and then maybe play around with some concepts from traditional RDBs. Or maybe learn more about Clickhouse…?
I am also thinking about doing a batch at Recurse. We’ll see! I /am/ going to start attending the daily leetcodes.
One more thing I’ve been doing is going through go by example. I think I’m on the strings and runes example. Maybe I’ll read that now.
(Eamon will be up pretty soon, and it’s Thanksgiving holidays, so I won’t have much time to do anything until Monday when I’ll be resuming my 9-5 schedule)
(I was just talking to Dan about studying for job interviews, and he sent me a good essay about effective Anki prompts…. I did not get good sleep last night, and maybe starting to delve into this essay might be a good way to spend the little time I have before Eamon wakes)

#pixelart Dare You Submit? ITV West Country, 5 May 1997. So good you can’t spot Marge Simpson’s hidden control codes. (It’s a teletext techie thing.)
