It's the same argument.

I still find it funny that one of the questions of The Last Stand exam was translating "Pedo Mellon a Minno" to "Speak friend and enter", something virtually impossible to do without outside knowledge of Lord of the Rings. Brennan was like, "I am entirely confident one of my nerd ass friends (Siobhan) will have this locked and loaded." And he was right.

The Mummy quote is great but i'll always love Roger Ebert's description of how being sophisticated means realizing Gamera is better than "serious" studio action movies

Absolutely floors me that when Brennan first mentioned the Quangle in Junior Year, I thought it would be a story element that came up either throughout the season or towards the end of it…
…and instead it’s just an extended excuse for Aurthur to fuck as many characters across the Dimension 20 universe as possible
brennan put aguefort in the multiverse and he immediately fucked lapin, plug, and baba yaga. yeah no i couldn't have done it more accurate myself

Do movie people know that in the book version of the "I ain't been dropping no eaves!" scene Sam did not just happen to overhear Gandalf and Frodo talking but was in fact deliberately and pre-meditatedly spying on them?

cody walsh is my perfect example of a character you 'love to hate'. because usually characters you love to hate are villains that are malevolent and heinous and charismatic and unique, but no. not cody. he's a brand of love to hate that ive rarely encountered before and fascinates me because he is objectively funny. i think he's really funny. whenever i remember one of his bits i keel over laughing. smoking cigarette butts he finds on the ground, being so serious about naruto at 30, the karen of hot topic managers, that's all objectively hilarious shit that i laugh at every time. and yet. and yet every time i actually watch unsleeping city and this man is in a scene. he stops being funny and my body is overtaken by an emotion called 'this fucking guy'. he's funny and then he opens his mouth and i go this fucking guy. somebody reaches out to him and i root for it and he opens his mouth and i go this fucking guy. i love cody except when im actively watching him. i hate cody but i don't dislike him. he's really funny except when i see him. murph whatever you did you did it on a level i can't even begin to comprehend

So if I were to take away from this moment something deeper than “man Sevika's a freak”, I'd point out that we've seen the same tactic not long before.
Tumblr media
What does this say about Caitlyn? She's fighting dirty. She's fighting like a cornered rat. She's fighting like a Zaunite.
And first of all there's hypocrisy. Caitlyn's been calling these people animals and monsters and whatnot but when placed in an identical situation she responds identically. Case in point: getting so mad at Jinx for terrorizing people out of grief that she goes ahead and starts to terrorize people out of grief. Sevika's expression afterwards is mostly “joke's on you I'm into that” but there's some surprise there too — you wouldn't expect that move from a Piltie.
Then there's desperation. Because she needs revenge; she needs it or she'll never ever forgive herself for what happened. So she'll throw away her morals and her dignity and just do whatever it takes to achieve the goal, whether it means chomping on someone like a feral raccoon or becoming a military dictator… which puts her in the same mindset as Zaunites, all of whom are desperate to survive and a lot of whom could never afford morals and dignity in the first place.

Some Jedi seem to follow traditions of their birth culture and other don't. I haven't see any explanations to this, so I imagine that younglings are searching for their birth place in space google and deciding if it cool enough to follow its traditions.

Did… did you forget she was trying to stop a hive mind from taking control of the whole world? And also stopping a foreign occupying force from aiding that magic hive mind and taking the city in the process?
It’s kind of myopic to see this only as ‘coming to their rescue’, everyone fighting against Viktor & Ambessa in this sequence is TRYING TO SAVE THE FUCKING WORLD.
Sevika & the rest of the underground are there too, are they also traitors to the cause?
There’s absolutely nothing in the show that implied Jinx would be on the enforcers side post-finale.
If she’s there to rescue anyone its Vi & Vander, her family; which time & time again is the thing she’s proven she’ll go to Extreme lengths for:
(Extreme Lengths that she rarely thinks all the way through consequence-wise, but extreme and indicative of her devotion none-the-less)
She made the monkey-bomb in an attempt to save Vander.
She blew up the council chamber to push forward Silco’s dream.
She broke into Still-Water to save Isha.
She risked her life fighting Warwick/Vander to save Isha & Sevika.
She went chasing after Vander/Warwick in the tunnels, despite the risk of him losing control and killing them all.
Also…
That kind of thinking is the problem with Silco’s, and by extension Jinx’s, philosphy toward Piltover. This idea that Zaun & Piltover can be separated & treated as such. That the class divide is all-powerful and insurmountable without war & secession.
Piltover & Zaun are THE SAME CITY. A horribly divided & fucked up city, but it’s two parts are inextricably bound together. They are reliant on each other in so many ways, and if you watch the show closely you’ll see that mutual reliance is at the heart of most of the conflict between them. Piltover needs the resources Zaun provides, Zaun needs the stability that Piltover provides.
Now, before I go any further, I must say that I am NOT on Piltovers SIDE, the upperclass of the Divided City either directly caused or allowed horrible things to happen to their working class, and that is just plain wrong. The Undercity never deserved such treatment and Piltover should have never allowed itself to grow so lax as to consider half the city they rule to be beneath their concern.
But it seems it wasn’t always like that. After all, the Kiramman’s seem to have built the ventilation system that handled the Gray. Ik Ik, Caitlyn abused that system and turned it into a weapon to further oppress the lower class, but it was originally intended for good.
And if you’re doubting that Zaun needs the stability Piltover provides, I have to tell you that it’s more abstract than what is easily seen.
Piltover, both before and after Hextech, is a large player in the global politics of this world, a position that the maintaining of which is no easy or obvious task. All we see in show is Noxxus applying pressure of this kind, but given their central location in their world and the prestige of a university that creates technological marvels, such pressure must come from all sides.
Given Zaun is primarily run by gangsters or smaller community leaders like Vander & Benzo. How well do you think they’d fare on a geopolitical stage? Not well unless they had say a university where they could attain higher education.
That’s why at the end of S2 it’s so important that Sevika has a council seat.
The war with the enforcers only further entrenches these divides, on both sides.
Not to be cheesy, but It took a common enemy for them to realize what they have in common. The city.
In Jayces alternative universe, Zaun falls with Piltover.
In Ekko’s?
Zaun & Piltover are lifted up together and that is where we see the best version of the city.
Not so much because of the lack of hextech, but rather what that lack created the opportunity for:
Community.
The way they sanitized and mellowed down Jinx's aggression towards enforcers until they have her come to their fucking rescue at the end of Season 2 is so fucking lame. We went from this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bombings, shootings, grisly killings, guts splayed, blood everywhere. Zero remorse. To this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lighthearted comedy, knocking unconscious, no deaths. Middle finger teehee, nothing too dark and serious anymore. And finally to this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Coming to their rescue as part of her ~redemption~. "Character progression" my ass. This was whitewashing and character assassination because god forbid we have a single main character who opposes enforcers and topside.

This goes out specifically to everyone acting like Realmatic Theory & Matter-Investiture-Relationships are in any way EASY TO UNDERSTAND.
Like bruh… each & every one of us had to read a dozen+ books, scour 17th Shard/Coppermind, & dog Sanderson for answers every chance we get; just to have the minimal understanding of things we’ve reached.
And we STILL BARELY KNOW ANYTHING?!?!?
None of us knew what was going on when we picked up our first Cosmere book, we all fell in love with the characters before we had any idea how the worlds really worked, and that was PART OF THE FUN!!
Discovering the vast complexities of it all is one of the great pleasures of reading Sanderson.
Why would you want to take that away from somebody, or disparage the joy they get from it?
Because they’re new? Because they’re in the same place you were however many years ago?
Sanderson was crystal clear when he said to not gatekeep this fandom. No one needs to prove their knowledge of realmatic theory to belong. From the man himself: do not gatekeep, everyone belongs, everyone is welcome.

Bruce: Alright, we got the family holiday party coming up and we need to go over some ground rules to make sure we don't have a repeat of last year.
Stephanie: Is it gonna be in the back room of the Clock Tower again?
Bruce: No, it's not. Apparently, the city doesn't enjoy holes punched in the wall.
Jason: Hey, that punch was meant for Tim.
Tim: You're a mean drunk, Jason.
Bruce: Rule number one: adults get two drink tickets. When they're gone, that's it.
Jason: Uh...
Damian: No, Jason, you cannot use Cassandra's drink tickets.
Jason: Damn.
Bruce: And no bringing your own supply. I will be checking water bottles.
Dick: But do bring your gelt 'cause I'm bringing my dreidel again and it's on.
Duke: I'm not risking my chocolate again. No way.
Harper: Two drink max and kids' games? This should be fun.
Bruce: Rule number two: no coupling up and sneaking off.
Jason, glancing at Dick and Barbara: Uh-huh.
Barbara: Oh my gosh, guys, how many times are we gonna talk about this?
Bruce: Think of the shame and humiliation. Think of the awkwardness the next day when you run into the person you—
Barbara: We get it, jeez.
Bruce: Alright, rule number three: for the White Elephant, get creative. I don't know if you conspired last year but every gift was a weapon. You literally just exchanged weapons.
Cass: That really was epic.
Damian: Best White Elephant ever.
Duke: So where is the party gonna be this year?
Bruce: Right here in the Manor. That way we can get a deep clean in too.
Everyone: *starts complaining*

Yes I think Viktor talked Jayce of the ledge because he was interested in hextech but I think stopping Jayce from killing himself was his first concern. The scene is from Jayce’s pov so Viktor looks kind of cold and stoic in a way but if we look at his personality throughout the series he must have been nervous because he’s actually a very caring person.
Viktor doesn’t seem to be very good at coming up with spontaneous plans either which might be why his “am I interrupting” has similar vibes to “wait a minute this isn’t my bedroom”

Arguments about what's canon and what's not in SW fandom are kinda pointless, I know for a fact that every fan has their personal frankensteined version of canon based on what's best for their own blorbos. I love picking up a random licensed book to sneer at half of its ideas and then steal the rest. Some shows and books and comics and whole movies are simply not incorporated into my belief system. That's how we roll
