Apropos of that fantasy swords post, I love how half of Sanderson's books set up the story so that he's basically saying, "I am aware that crazy-shaped swords as tall and broad as a man make no sense, so I'm gonna painstakingly show you the reasons why they actually work physically, practically, and culturally in this society."

That man KNOWS he shouldn't have crazy, giant swords, but he is determined to have them. He just thinks they're cool.

I really love how brandon sanderson portrayed the effects of emotional abuse when it comes to navani and gavilar and the like. intentional erosion of her trust in herself and her abilities. the way we see navani's intense self doubt even after she's no longer with gavilar and she recognizes that he was not a good husband, the kind of systematic destruction of her sense of self hasn't left her. and sandersons always been good with not falling into the 'the perfect relationship will heal your trauma' trope but it's really nice to see with an abusive relationship specifically. i love that her relearning that she is capable and intelligent and a scholar had nothing to do with dalinar, or really any external validation, it was her having to rely on her own skills and her own competency through the tower siege. and I'm sure the homoerotic enemies to not quite lovers type relationship with the hot evil crab woman might've helped but. idk man I just love RoW navani so much

what they don't tell you about making friends is you gotta be a lil annoying. you gotta push past the fear of "what if they don't want to talk to me" and simply ask someone how their day is going, send a meme. you cannot connect to people if you're both just awkwardly waiting for the other to start.

Somebody please tell me how Benoit Blanc’s voice is so deepy ingrained in my subconscious that I read that quote in his accent automatically and didn’t even question that until I had finished reading the post?!?!

So many modern detectives have tried to emulate Sherlock Holmes, and none of them have even come CLOSE to touching Benoit Blanc. That man is Holmes' true spiritual successor. He's a silly little guy. He's gay. He's a drama queen. He has impeccable fashion sense. He loves music. He works with the cops but refuses to work for them. His voice is both goofy and incredibly fun to listen to. He sucks at playing Clue and Among Us. He mopes in the bathtub for weeks when he doesn't have a case. He loves hanging out with The Girls but gets incredibly uncomfortable when women flirt with him. The only reason he can afford his gorgeous downtown apartment is because his husband works a real job.* The only thing he hates more than Rich Assholes are Stupid Rich Assholes. He solved a double (attempted triple) homicide and the thing that made him most upset was plagiarism. He supports women's rights and women's wrongs. He refuses to break the law himself but actively encourages his client to commit arson.

And, most importantly, he and Holmes would fucking love each other. If most of the modern day detectives inspired by Holmes ever met him, he would probably want to kill them with hammers, but he and Blanc would probably end up being penpals and sending each other newspaper clippings about crime or some shit. And I can absolutely envision a teenage Blanc reading the Holmes stories and being like, "Wait, being a silly little gay private detective is a viable career option? Well, I guess I've finally found my calling in life."

Anyway I love the Benoit Blanc movies and I hope they make a million of them

You guys have no idea how insane I am about Auxillary. The guy who scolded Szeth for expressing too much emotion has to rely on third-person narrating his words to show the tone of his voice because it's literally an emotionless monotone. The guy who took an insult that was flung at him at the most humiliating moment of his life and made it his name, wore it as a badge of honor. My most pathetic jerk of a spren who turned into an amazing and supposting companion for Sigzil. He, who recognised he sucked and had the courage to ask for help. The guy who sacrificed himself for his friend and made a point about it being HIS choice, just like Kaladin taught.

my favorite fantasy high moment of all time might be brian murphy getting possessed by the spirit of riz gukgak specifically to scream at kipperlily copperkettle for being a soulless minmaxer. like it was so clear brennan wanted to hiss some kind of insult at riz but he literally couldn’t cut through the absolute fury that immediately exploded out of murph’s body. truly the best thing to ever happen
