Today’s Legislative Updates February 10, 2025
Trans rights are still under attack in the United States. Please visit our website linked below to learn about your state and contact your reps. Here's a thread of today's updates:
Bathroom bills deny access to public restrooms by gender or trans identity.
They increase danger without making anyone any safer and have even prompted attacks on cis and trans people alike. Many national health and anti-sexual assault organizations oppose these bills.
New Bills:
The U.S. House introduced bill US HB1016 last Friday and sent it to the House Oversight And Government Reform Committee. This is a federal-level bathroom ban for federal properties.
The U.S. House introduced bill US HB1017 last Friday and sent it to the House Oversight And Government Reform Committee. This is a federal-level bathroom ban for entities who receive federal funds.
Old Bills:
Tennessee sent bill SB0472 to the Senate Education Committee today.
Utah passed bill HB0269 through its third Senate reading last Friday. It is now in the House for concurrence before going to the governor.
Wyoming passed bill HB0072 through the House last Friday and sent it to the Senate.
North Dakota passed bill HB1144 through its second House reading last Friday.
Healthcare bills go against professional and scientific consensus that gender-affirming care saves lives. Denying access will cause harm.
Providers are faced with criminal charges, parents are threatened with child abuse charges, and intersex children are typically exempted.
New Bills:
Illinois filed under-18 healthcare ban HB3819 last Friday.
Illinois introduced under-18 healthcare ban SB2474 last Friday.
Old Bills:
Montana passed bill SB218 through its committee last Friday and sent it to the Senate floor.
Texas sent bill SB753 to the Senate State Affairs Committee last Friday.
Educational Censorship and Student Suppression bills force schools to misgender or deadname students, ban instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity, and make schools alert parents if they suspect a child is trans.
They remove life-saving affirmation and support for trans youth.
New Bills:
Maryland introduced educational censorship and student deadnaming bill HB1385 last Friday and sent it to the House Ways and Means committee.
Iowa introduced the anti-DEI bill HF269 last Thursday.
Tennessee crossfiled student misgendering bills HB1262 and SB1252 last Thursday.
Tennessee filed a student misgendering bill SB1126 last Thursday.
Old Bills:
Texas sent bill SB810 to the Senate State Affairs Committee last Friday.
Wyoming passed bill HB0200 through the House last Friday and sent it to the Senate.
Wyoming passed bill SF0103 through its second Senate reading last Friday.
Trans Erasure bills create legal definitions of terms like “sex” designed to exclude or erase trans identity and insert them into various laws. This can have many different effects, depending on what laws are affected.
They can force a male or female designation based on sex assigned at birth.
Some target anti-discrimination statutes, legally empowering trans discrimination.
New Bills:
Texas filed a trans erasure bill SB1188 last Friday.
Illinois introduced trans erasure and ID bill SB2078 last Thursday. This bill deletes gender identity from state human rights legislation and calls for all prior gender marker changes on Illinois IDs to be reversed.
Tennessee filed a trans erasure bill HB1271 last Thursday.
Old Bills:
Tennessee sent bill SB0468 to the Senate Judiciary Committee today.
New Hampshire bills SB268 and SB38 have hearings on 2/13 at 2:30pm in Room 100, State House in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Most sports bills force schools to designate teams by sex assigned at birth.
They are often one-sided and ban trans girls from playing on teams consistent with their gender identity.
Some egregious bills even force invasive genital examinations on student athletes.
Old Bills:
Maryland failed to pass bill HB156 in committee today.
In other bills that either fit multiple categories or stand on their own, we have:
Old Bills:
South Dakota bill HB1211 had a hearing today. The vote was deferred for the time being. [Other]
It's not too late to stop these and other hateful anti-trans bills from passing into law. YOU can go to http://transformationsproject.org/ to learn more and contact your representatives!
