In our final class we discussed a few paintings of classmates. One discussion that was brought up about my painting was the fact that it was a reminder of time passing not only in the representation of motion but the fact that this picture was taken at a time where Times Square was busy and full of life as it usually was. This day in time its different because now Times Square lies empty and quiet. As I look at the painting i feel a bit nostalgic because I remember that day and the upbeat energy of NY. However I know that better days are still to come and what we we’re going through is temporary. Everything is temporary. Hope everyone stays safe mentally and physically. Thank you for sharing your insights class and thank you Anna for being such a great professor two semesters in a row!! My final painting posts are below btw.

I was happy with the outcome of the painting. The reverse side I wasn’t happy with as much because I didn’t know how to manipulate it correctly and wasn’t used to painting in that way. However I really liked the material we worked on and like the flatness element it gave the painting on the reverse side. #JimNutt

Painting #4 unfinished and conflicted with

This was a painting about illusion, looking at the surface, and perspective. It’s left unfinished because I was unhappy with it and to be honest I want to re-do it because I’m unhappy with my face. :/

The study on time in motion/vanitas painting. For this painting I especially thought I pushed myself. I was extremely intimidated by the detail in the picture and in the end I was proud of the outcome. Love this painting!!

A very enjoyable study on portraits with guest Yolande. I learned a lot about trying to capture not only features but the nature of the individual that we’re painting. One of my favorite projects of the semester sadly I left the painting at school.

This was how the back of my painting turned out. I originally wasn’t going to post it because I wasn’t a big fan of it. There were times where I had forgotten that there was even a back to it and how my painting and outline might look on the back. You can see a lot of the smudges from my outline, it’s less detailed on the front and there were a lot of things I ended up fixing on the other side which didn’t reflect on this side because of the layers of paint underneath. I still have 3 other sheets of plexiglass so I’ll be more careful and understanding on how to manipulate this style of painting for my next painting. I do like the flat element of it I just don’t think it was manipulated well enough. It gives it a real cartoon like feel to it. I also have found that when pictures are reversed they always look so different than when not reversed and you see a lot of your mistakes which is what happened here and certain areas were not proportionate which I ended up fixing on the other side. Sorry that I ramble a lot :) hope you were able to follow through

Here’s a pizza I made last night! Whole wheat dough :) the dough was a bit too hard but that’s probably because I didn’t have yeast.

End piece. I enjoyed painting on plexiglass a lot. The acrylic went on so smoothly and I felt it wasnt drying as fast as it usually does which helped with blending colors. I also thought the flatness that the other side of the painting gave to the painting was an interesting element but I wasn’t paying attention to it as much and didn’t know how to manipulate it as well. Next time around I will utilize it better though
