1 week to the day that Mabel has been in our house. She is sleeping on the bed with us through most of the night and coming up to us to be pet. She’s still terrible in the crate (shreds the bedding, howls) but I didn’t come home to find that she had pooped in it!! Yay for the small miracles!! 

ANNNNNDDD. While I was at work today I got 3 different emails of people wanting to adopt her! 1 home sounds like it won’t work. But there are 2 potentials…and now on to the meet and greets. Ultimately it depends on if they can handle her fear and escapism habits and then how the dogs get along. (It’s ALWAYS up to the dogs.) Hopefully this pretty girl might get a forever home soon.

I’ll be sad to see her leave, cause she’s sooo sweet….but I am REALLY not a hound person. They’re great dogs…but the howling/baying really hurts my head.

This is my blog where I’m going to post all of the behind the scenes of having a foster dog. On Facebook I can only post the pretty things (because people share those posts to potential adopters), but on here I can post all the good, the bad, and the ugly. This recent post is a good one, since Mabel is starting to show signs of being a normal dog.

After 3 days of Mabel being in the house she’s starting to show us little moments of her goofy personality! She’s still very scared of everything, but she’s initiated play with our dogs and today when I came home from work she actually came up with my own dogs to get pet! Granted right after that she tried to steal my dinner, but I will take her having the courage to come close enough to take my food. 

She’s a weird little dog though, as she’s still too nervous to pee on leash in the front yard, but thankfully putting her on our long line and letting her go into the woods behind the house works. She sleeps in the room with us at night, but when we leave her in the crate she has major separation anxiety, but we’ll cross that bridge after she’s more comfortable around the house.

Reasonable expectations! That’s pretty much my mantra right now.

We got a new foster dog! This girl is a hound (first hound-dog...oh boy), and is TERRIFIED of people. She does well with other dogs, so I’m hoping having 2 dogs that are very confident around people will help her in leaps and bounds. 

Her name is Mabel (or Maybe-Baby). We’re letting her settle in to our routine for a few days before I really see what we’re working with. When she was at the shelter, she was so shut down and scared that we couldn’t get any assessments on her, so basically I’m flying kinda blind with her. So far though, she is starting to walk past me willingly and she is currently sleeping in the living room next to Nax. 

The next few days will tell me more though.

I can’t post these rants on facebook because it might prevent them from getting adopted, and I didn’t want to flood my main blog since some people might not want to see it. But if you are interested in the daily life of a dog trainer, please go follow it. I’ll give you the good, the bad, and the ugly. 

I’m taking these long term residents from the shelter setting and bringing them into a house to try to make them into normal, adoptable dogs that can survive in someone’s home.

This past week has really turned things around for me! 

I got a job at a clinic as a Vet Tech and I had someone contact me to house sit for a week for them. Things are finally looking up!

Today I ran around and dropped my resume off at a few other vet clinics in town, just in case I don’t work out for the shelter, and both places pulled me back and gave me a quick interview on the spot. One clinic even invited me back on Friday morning for a working interview! Let’s hope things go well there and I can show them I actually know my stuff.
