I love how it's my height fun fact post that is suddenly getting a bunch of commentary about the turtles' eye colors and not the eye color fun fact post. Not that I'm complaining! I am loving all the headcanons and discussions!

Turtle Fun Fact of the Day

The 2003 turtles actually grow during the course of the series. At the beginning, they are all the same size, at 5′2″ for seasons 1-5.

(Leo’s closer to the camera, hence why he looks taller.)

Then, for seasons 6&7, they are given different heights: Mikey is 5′4″, Leo is 5′5″, Donnie is 5′6″, and Raph is the tallest at 5′7″.

Y'know what's interesting to me?

03 Splinter became a ninjutsu master all on his own.

Sure, he was able to observe and copy Yoshi's (and probably the Ancient One's) moves back when he was a normal rat. But no one corrected his form. No one directed his katas. No one helped hone his skill, or show him where his strengths and weaknesses lay so he could correct them.

He had to learn ninjutsu all by himself, and then relearn it in his new mutant body!

And yet, he never set out to turn his sons into child soldiers. Sure, he taught them ninjutsu, but he did so to protect them from a world that would never accept mutants like them. In fact, early in S1 he directly points out that he didn't want their hearts and training to be marred by hatred.

Splinter taught the turtles ninjutsu to keep them safe (and probably to help burn off 4 growing boys' boundless energy 😅).

It makes me wonder: what if Splinter didn't start out with the intention to teach the turtles ninjutsu? What if he was just practicing the katas he knew as a way to exercise and grow used to his new mutant body (and feel close to his late Master), and the tots saw and started to copy him (because children).

What if he noticed them copying him, and realised it would help their physical and mental development too, so he started to teach them all he knew.

What if Splinter never intended to be a Sensei, just like he never intended to become a father. It just... happened. And he realised teaching the boys ninjutsu was a way to connect with them and hold on to his connection with his beloved Master Yoshi.

I thought about you says about the fighting now being more violent then normal but it was still dramatic. It’s the atmosphere there’s no quips and sarcasm or jokes. Like Mikey usually fighting vs him fighting in grudge match. Or the exodus fighting having no humor like Raph didn’t make a sarcastic remark at Karai he was mad and in the warpath. Yeah this show knows when to make things serious. And the music too. Try to watch a horror film with the music gone it’s not gonna have the same affect at least for me anyway. I hope k an making sense lol

You're making perfect sense, don't worry

The people working on the 03 show really knew how to ramp up the tension and make the serious moments hit harder.

In addition to everything you've already said, I think the voice actors do a stellar job of really getting the feelings of the scene across.

Not just Mike Sinterniklass as Leo, but all of them. The way Sam Riegal made Donnie's voice wobble when he yells "Raphie! We got trouble down here!". The way you can hear the extra edge in Greg Abbey's performance as Raph. The way Veronica Taylor's voice strains for April's fear and worry. And the way Wayne Grayson's Mikey is so much more subdued than usual.

And I've said it before, but the way Darren Dunstan's voice cracks when Splinter watches an exhausted Leo throw himself into the fight to save his Sensei always makes me choke up.
