Pretty much everyday of my life.
Do you ever just suddenly feel really shitty because you’re not particularly good at anything and you don’t know what you wanna do with your life and like you didn’t ask to be born and have to deal with all of this and yet here you are, confused and anxious and paying to exist on this trash planet

That’s right. I called you an asshole.
Let’s talk about translation commissions for just a minute.
As someone that works freelance I’d like to call a few things to your attention. I often get commissions to translate people’s comics. Its a job that while fun, requires some work. I feel like artist should understand the situation but I get the “I’m a poor artist” bit a LOT.
Here is the thing. If you aren’t willing to pay AT LEAST a dollar a page, you’re an asshole. I’m not going to sugar coat it. The same way you have strove to better your art, we translators have spent YEARS trying to hone our skills. You value your time spent creating something. We value the quality of our work.
I hate to say it but, artists are the worst at this. I don’t know if its because they don’t see what a translator does as art or if because they feel like written word is less valuable than picture or whatever but, this need to undercut translators is ridiculous. I recently received a commission for a 50 page comic. I always over quote because I know that people will try to haggle. I asked for 60 dollars. The person replied with “Oh that’s a bit much.” A response I expected. I then asked “Well how much were you looking to spend” the gentleman replied “No more than 20 dollars” Meaning that he was hoping I’d do it for less. This is something that has happened a few times. I once had a girl offer me royalties. When I inquired how much she stated “a dollar off of every one I sell at a convention” but later stated she didn’t think the Japanese version would sell at a US con and asked if I could do the work anyway and would defer payment because she was “trying to get a table at comiket” I already hear the chorus of people saying “That’s not a bad arrangement” but let me tell you where you are wrong. 1. I would be doing the work for free. Unless we signed a contract (which to make it legally binding would cost the both of us money) she wouldn’t be entitled to pay me. She could have just as easily cancelled her comiket booth. Which would leave me giving my services for free. 2. I would have to trust that she would not only be able to get a table at comiket but sell an amount that would have made it worth my effort. If she had only sold 10 or 15 I would barely make anything. Also, trusting that she would have been truthful about how many she had sold. She could have sold 100 of them but told me “Oh we only sold about 10″ and I would be screwed. 3. A dollar a per book? It was about 30 - 40 pages. Its a laughably low amount when you consider that she was planning on selling them for 10 dollars a piece. For me to have made the dollar per page quota she would have had to sell about 40 copies. She would have made 400 dollars minus her overhead cost for printing.
I get other commissions such as translating songs, CD dramas, radio programs, and other things. Sometimes asked to do it for free as a “service to the community”
So here is the bottom line. Respect that a person has spent time and energy honing their craft. Its the same thing with fanfic writers and scenario writers. They put in effort. If you don’t see it as equal work, then learn the language yourself and translate or write your own works. Maybe then you can appreciate the effort that goes into written work.
/ my angry rant. T_______T

Really like this song lols. He’s so talented in such a small package. ^_^.
This is a continuation from @shouyio‘s post about Murase Ayumu (the voice of Hinata Shouyou from Haikyuu!!) singing in English. So here’s the full version of the song >w<
This track was actually part from the Kabedon (wall situation)! SONG series. Here’s a little sypnosis:
His character is a professional unit dancer and saw you (the listener) taking a dance class *ahem*Jazz*ahem*. He thought at first that you were the same girl he saw at the ballet class in the next room when he was four years old and he couldn’t forget her ever since then. He talks about his first love to you and wants to forget all about it because he got attracted to you ^^
Anyway, enjoy listening to this and to be honest, Murase’s English is pretty good *O*

Easy Ramen pasta recipe Cook one packet of Ramen normally (Do not add flavor packet) Drain Ramen Add teaspoon of butter or margarine Add a splash of milk (the more milk you add the thinner sauce is) Add half of the flavor packet. (You can add more for taste but a little goes a long way. Add any extras (I like to cut up a weenie and fry it in a pan real quickly. Also a cut up baby carrot that you boiled or any small amount of veggies work) TA-DA! you have a creamy pasta dish made from Ramen. You can use the other half packet of flavor for a broth or use it as a base for a soup.

Oh god me too. When my friend says "I am tired" I say "well have a nap... THEM FIRE ZE MISSILES" and I scream "Wtf mate" at bad drivers
it has been like at least eight years and sometimes I still think to myself, when I am tired, “but I am le tired… well then take a nap! AND THEN FIRE ZE MISSILES” even though in retrospect that is like one of the most embarrassingly unfunny videos to ever come out of the internet

Squad goals...
I wanna see Satsuki and Ai in a fight. I want Satsuki to punch Ai and nothing happens. His face does that weird “I’ve been punched and my skin is rippling but I am unaffected” thing then say “Bitch, I’m bionic” and punch Satsuki in the gut and send him flying.

Uggg my issue as a fan translator (who has taken a semi permanent retirement cause of shit holes.) Is that we make mistakes. I have made my fair share of them. That being said, some people seem bent on pitting translators against each other. "WELL IN _____'S VERSION THEY ARE TOGETHER" I will tell you this, if a Japanese author wants to be vague, ITS NOT HARD! The language is GREAT at implying things and its all left to context. Also, you get into slippery slopes of canon with otome games. So please, stop trying to pick fights. Cause we just give up and move on.
Y'all need to think about fan translation as a service of CONVENIENCE. Some of us can read the original language, and we as fan translators then do the community a service by allowing those not so lucky to experience what we experience.
BUT THE ORIGINAL CANON, NO MATTER HOW ENTITLED YOU ASSHOLES THINK YOU ARE, IS IN THE ORIGINAL LANGUAGE. You want to be purist? Too bad, your only choice is to experience the thing in the original language UNLESS an official localization comes out. Even then, what makes you think you have the authority to tell PROFESSIONAL TRANSLATORS WHO CAN COMMUNICATE WITH THE ORIGINAL CREATORS they’re wrong when you can’t even READ the canon?
