Honestly shout out to people with anxiety and panic disorders, we don’t get enough recognition for our hard work. Pushing through your body’s instinct to fight/flee/freeze at the slightest worry is a whole new level of strength. We’re battling almost everyday against a fast-acting animalistic response that humans have been experiencing since the dawn of time, a response that is literally designed to take full control of your actions away from you. That takes so much courage and perseverance. We’re strong as fuck.

My girlfriend and I have this useful concept of “anxiety time” which is, like, when you’re planning for something and you put in a little spacer just so you won’t freak out. So for instance if we know it takes 45 minutes to get somewhere and we have to be there at 7, we’ll actually try to be ready to go by 6 just to give us those 15 minutes of anxiety time. It’s time that allows you to not panic about possibly missing something or w/e. I thought that was an idea that might be helpful to other people, too. I think a lot of us do it w/o necessarily having a word for it.

I know people always talk about the physical and emotional effect of depression, but why is the cognitive effect always left out?
I can’t count the amount of times when depression interfered to the point that my thought process literally slowed down. For example, writing a paper for class takes all day or trying to explain something to someone other than yourself. For me, it feels like having writer’s block but lasts for the entire depressive episode.
