{ ✦ } » — To say Hive City was an unusual place was an understatement. He had paid visits to other worlds and, though eccentric, somehow they still paled in comparison to this. Sure, there were fewer aliens, but the concept of people who didn’t exist in his world; People who had no idea superheroes existed outside of comic books, people very much like Daichi, is still weird to him.
Tumblr media
“If you think the description is interesting, you should try seeing it in person,” Johnny snorts, one hand resting at his hip while the other gestures vaguely to the air. “Usually he is, yeah. Sometimes it depends on the day of the week, or whether or not he decides to ANSWER HIS DUMB PHONE. He’s a bit of a loser, honestly, but I guess he has his moments.”
Daichi doesn’t exactly follow the other’s train of thought, he’s referring to his friend and that much is obvious but there doesn’t seem to be a point to it. What is clear to Daichi is that this blond is close to the “spandex-swinging-guy”. An airy chuckle breaks from his mouth as the other waves his hand around and calls the mystery man a loser. He is suddenly reminded of Nishinoya teasing Asahi and the memories of his teammates flash through his mind; because of that, his laugh gets a little louder.
Tumblr media
“It sounds like you two have a lot of fun together.” He steps closer, nodding his head decisively, “Do you have a picture of what he looks like? I’ll help you search for him. If I knew one of my friends were here, I’d like to find them as quickly as possible.”

Oh. Then he shrugs, “If it’s something you like to do then why would you have to give it up. No one ever said that you need only one happiness to make you happy.” Then there’s another shrug, “You could keep volleyball. It doesn’t have to be where you have to give it up. It doesn’t have to be hard, even. If growing up is what you’re worried about…Why would you be? I know plenty of adults who does things that they used to do as a child.” jasper’s brother was one of them. Don’t think about him. “But who am I to say anything. I don’t know you and I honestly shouldn’t care.” And yet Jasper does. Not in a way where Jasper wants the guy to be happy. Just in a way where he wants to show the other that anything and everything is possible.
Tumblr media
There are caring people in this world, even if--
The news report echoes in his mind. His vision blurs as tears bubble up in his eyes. He quickly blinks them away, lifting his arm up and dips his head to wipe his face into his shoulder. The motions mirrors that of wiping off sweat, easily hiding the fact that a few tears eased from the corners of his eyelids.
Tumblr media
“That’s really nice of you to say,” he replies. Daichi’s hands push the volleyball into the ground and it bounces back up. “I appreciate that you do care even if you don’t know me. It makes me feel better, knowing that there are nice people out there, I mean.” He is unable to make eye contact with the other, slightly afraid if he does he may break out into tears. “Things happened recently and now it’s all I can think about.” Slowly, Daichi lolls his head back to look up; he stares at the blinding light in between the two buildings and he lifts a hand to reach up for it as if he could grab that warm ball of light above.
“Volleyball was all I thought about back home. It’s the reason why I got up in the morning. After... after what happened, I can’t think about volleyball anymore. It doesn’t feel right to play it if... if my heart isn’t there. That’s pretty dumb, huh?”

∞ The bow makes her shake her head just lightly. Seeing him like this really hurts and the words he had spilled is worrisome. Just…What on earth happened to her friend!? she watches as he’s come back to his full height and then she’s taking a step forward. He’s going to give up on this? But…She remembers how his eyes lit up when he talked about his dream in making this place real. She remembers just how passionate he was. his passionate-ness, his EXCITEMENT was what made her want to help him. What….happened? She wants to ask him. She wants to ask him so badly.
“Daichi…I-I don’t think that’s the best decision.” She admits. But this is his decision. She knows it’s his choice. “It’s not a silly dream. I—A LOT of people believes it can—No, it will happen. I’m sure of it.” Calm down, Hansol. Help him. He might need it. He’s going through something. She can smell it but she can’t figure out what it is. He was fine BEFORE. But….Since when did he change. She’s thinking, but not for long.
“I don’t know what happened, but I can tell it’s something big. It’s why you feel this way, right? But….I believe this is good. I believe you holding onto this dream and working to make it real is good. It’s not silly and it’s not something that isn’t productive. You’re right, you don’t know when you’ll be back home….Isn’t that ALL the more reason to WORK hard in doing this sport? I’m sure you have friends back home who’d love to see you and your skills and you have friends here who’d love to see what you have to offer and show.”
Tumblr media
“In….a world like this,” Her eyes lowers to the ground for a moment, “In this kind of world where there’s a lot of scary stuff, especially if one’s not used to it…Something like volleyball…Or even running a shop can brighten the dark days.” It makes them feel normal.
It is the concern in her eyes that forces Daichi to look away. He dislikes the fact that he is worrying her. He isn’t physical pain, he is able to receive and serve and spike like has did before. Though something wasn’t right with him. He feels as if he hit a wall and is struggling to climb over it. He can’t seem to make it to the top, the wall keeps extending higher and higher, as if there’s no end to it. That’s the only way he could describe it.
Daichi knows the feeling yet his voice refuses to say it. He’s so afraid that if he speaks about it, the cracks that he feels when he lays his head down at night will suddenly grow larger until he breaks. There were so many emotions that are pent up inside. They twist and swirl within his stomach, giving him aches and pains he has never experienced before. Her words increase the internal pain. Everything she says is right, he has a reason to work hard. His friends at home are counting on him for the nationals. He recognizes the end goal but something inside of him refuses to let him focus on anything but that day.
His arms tighten around his torso and he slowly lowers into a crouch. That pain is no longer in his stomach, it’s in his shoulders and in his hips. Through clenching of teeth, a whimper breaks through. This pain feels like a parasite gnawing at his mind, his body, feeding off every bit of energy he has and diminishing him until he’s nothing but a lump.
Tumblr media
“I can’t,” he mutters painfully, his voice cracking, “I can’t think of anything else anymore... it’s always that day, the machines and the blood. It follows me around all the time and it’s worse when I’m near the train or alone in my room. I remember everything and I can’t think about anything else. It’s all I see. It’s all I hear. It’s all I think about. Even if I wanted to play volleyball I can’t, it won’t let me. I don’t know what to do.”

“Pft, a fan. Yeah right, I’m more than that.” He’s more than that probably. Gary can look amused at this thought. He chuckled and took one sphere out and spun the ball around like  basketball. He seemed surprised that this guy isn’t big on Pokemon.
“You must have missed a ton, don’t cha? Have you heard of Pokemon trainers? I mean I used to be one but called it quits because I wanted to be a Researcher.”
Tumblr media
A small grin. “I don’t carry these Pokeballs because I’m a fan. I invest in Pokemon myself.”
Daichi finds himself remembering his elementary days when he and his classmates stood near the school gate after school to trade Pokèmon cards. The memory brings a warm smile to his face, yet it is short lived. He realizes that his home in Japan is only memory, and where he lives now has all sorts of people. Through this process it occurs to him that this man may not just like Pokèmon, but lives Pokèmon.
Tumblr media
“Eh!?”
He suddenly feels pretty bad for dismissing his love for Pokèmon as a hobby. “Then, there’s actual Pokèmon in that,” he mutters breathlessly with a lazy finger pointing at the spinning, miniature ball, “where I come from--” he immediately stops himself when the voice inside his head warns him silence is better, “I... never seen a live Pokèmon,” not the best save in his life.

∞ It was after the drone attack and when things were finally a bit normal when she noticed something different about Daichi. That time, he had been at work but while he was, his mind seemed to be somewhere else. NokNok Cafe is and has always been a relatively quiet place, but one day a co-worker had injured themselves. Nothing too bad. They had accidentally burned their arm with a hot pan when cooking. they had screamed in a bit of pain and at that moment, she had seen a reaction (a slight one) she had never seen from Daichi.
Today was no different. He had been off. Somewhere in him was…Just off. He’d smile at customers, talk normally and everything but….what is it. When everyone’s shift was over, he was the first to be gone. She wanted to pull him aside and talk but he not around, and so she began searching. She went to where he stayed and he wasn’t there. After some time of searching and no success in finding him…”There’s only one place then.” Of course. She should’ve checked there first!
It didn’t take long to get to that abandoned building. The building that carries his hope and dreams. She enters and there he is. Sitting all alone.
She’s surprised. Words from Daichi shocks her but only for a second. She’s quiet and approaches him. “Hey, Daichi….” Words come out gentle and soft. She doesn’t know what went on, but she can tell something horrible happened to him.
Tumblr media
Daichi is deaf to Hansol’s approach and only reacts when he hears her faint, nearly whispering words. He tilts his head back a bit to see her standing only a few feet from him, the look on her face tells him that she indeed heard him. His own look becomes sullen and he sits up to rise into a stand. There were very few times where he allowed himself to be open with his emotions, this situation wasn’t one of them, however. Daichi smiles at his boss as he approaches her; he slides his hands into his pockets, a unconscious reflex reflecting withholding information.
Tumblr media
“Hey there, Boss,” his words mirror hers, soft and quiet. “Guess you walked in at the right--or wrong time.” Daichi stands up a straight, removing his hands from his pockets and bows respectfully before her. “Thank you for all your hard work, Boss, and I apologize for not being able to meet your expectations.” Somehow, he thought a formal apology would be easier, and yet he’s on the verge of tears. He remains bowing for a few seconds to show his remorse while at the same time gains his composure. Daichi slowly comes to his full height and nods his head, “it’s the best decision, I think, to give this place up for someone who is going to use it immediately. I can’t hang on to silly dreams like this. There’s no Nationals here and I don’t even know when I’ll be back home. All I had back home was volleyball and I thought it was the same here, but recently... things happened that made me think I shouldn’t waste time with a sport. That maybe I should find something more productive to do with my life.”

The kindness of others was something Homura was unused to. She was used to being alone, and relying solely on herself. After all, everyone else was usually just doomed to die anyway. She didn’t really care how she appeared to others, she still didn’t see very much point in bothering with conversations. The approach of the other prompted the quirk of her brow as she stopped walking.
             … Alright?
Tumblr media
                    “… I’m fine, I suppose… Who are you?”
The response is more than he expected. Not every occupant of this city is closed off from outside communication, though he has met enough to know he should be prepared for the worse. Daichi smiles at the initiation of the conversation, definitely happy that she is responsive to strangers despite the unusual circumstances.
Tumblr media
“Sawamura, Daichi Sawamura. I’m sorry if I interrupted your walk. This city can be unwelcoming at times and I wanted to make sure you were all right. We just met, so you’re not obligated to do anything, but I hope we can become friends.”

your heart  f l u t t e r s  when they look at you you catch yourself smiling when you see them doing something so normal you stuff your face into a pillow like a kid in a romance movie all because you made them laugh!

i love talking headcanons over ships with partners. even if it’s something that may never happen, i just love the discussion of the ship regardless. literally talking for hours in cap locks over two muses you care for so much is amazing. and it makes you feel good knowing your partner is as dedicated as you are and thinks about your two muses in different situations too.

Eagerness was a good sign. In the very least, he seemed like he’d be a capable student (though perhaps they could have been the same age, Link considered for a moment) with a good attitude, which was an easy thing to appreciate. Besides the problem of experience (which wasn’t very much of a problem at all), Link couldn’t see why he’d have any reason to doubt him.
He offered a smile of his own and nodded with confirmation. In the odd case that the volleyball player didn’t show, he had faith that he could handle farming duties to an extent on his own, but as most things went, there was power in numbers. That was why he had even bothered advertising for such a thing at all.
As any boss ought to do after meeting their new worker, he held out his hand to shake as he introduced himself.
Tumblr media
     “Link.”
The hand shake is something he still hasn’t gotten used too. He takes his hand rather awkwardly, bowing in the process of giving him a firm shake. Aware of how unusual he looks Daichi’s cheeks heat up in embarrassment. Two months in this city and he has yet to conform to the norm culture of the city.
Tumblr media
"Daichi Sawamura, it’s a pleasure to meet you. Do you mind if I called you Boss?” Calling him by his name seems impolite to him. The male is a bit older than him and is in a higher position, thus he relies on his engrained manners and opts to refer to him as his title. “What can I expect, Boss? Outside of farming documentaries and simulators, I know very little about raising animals.”

Was. Who you were and what you did back home probably doesn’t matter anymore. Or maybe you can bring what you did to Hive City, but clearly you’re not going to have the same people with you who worked by you. How sad. Jasper starts to wonder if this guy has his friends with him here. Would he be able to make a volleyball team or if he’s working on it. How unbecoming of you to wonder these things. Pfft. At the mental thought, Jasper resists the eye rolling. Jasper may seem like he wasn’t listening, but he was. That’s one of his things. He surely couldn’t care less about things but he always listened. Not to mention he was the one who asked how Volleyball was played.
Just by the tone of his voice when he’s explaining shows that he really love this volleyball. “Must be something you love. I guess that’s good.” Is that a little bit of envy Jasper feels toward this guy? It…might be.
Tumblr media
Daichi wasn’t sure if he loved volleyball, but he was certainly passionate about it. He knew he wasn’t good enough to make a career out of it, not like Kageyama or Asahi. Frankly, Daichi didn’t see himself always playing volleyball in the future, maybe a few games here and there with the community team. He smiles sadly, knowing that his youth is on its way out of the door and adulthood would enter, forcing some perspective.
Tumblr media
“It’s something I like,” he makes the correction out loud, “it’s a fun sport and I made friends through it, but I can’t rely on it to make me happy. There’s other things out there for me.” Daichi bounces the ball on the ground, the smile becoming a bit sadder, “That said, giving volleyball up will be the hardest thing I will ever have to do.”

Most people usually assumed Makoto worked out one way or another, but it wasn’t too often that someone had a keen enough eye to correctly point out the source of his burly build right off the bat. Broaching the subject was always a bittersweet experience while he was stuck here, but it brought a smile to his lips anyway.
“Ever since I can remember really.”
Tumblr media
“But if you mean competitively then, about 3 years?”
Competitive swimming sounds like a challenge. He understood the time, strength, and pain that is put into working hard to achieve recognition for a sport. He whistles to showcase how impressed he is by the man’s capabilities.
Tumblr media
“What made you want to join swimming competitions?”

{ ✦ } » — Okay, Sector 6. This is the place, isn’t it? It has to be, but there’s no sign of him, and he’s not answering his damn phone. Is he worried? No, this, unfortunately, isn’t unusual. (Although mildly frustrated comes to mind.)
Couldn’t hurt to ask someone anyway, right?
“Hey, you seen a guy around here–about my height, wearing far more spandex than any one person should? …Probably swinging around from buildings?”
Daichi has learned that Hive City is an unusual place. Every single day is an adventure (or nightmare) and boredom could never wiggle into his life again. The blonde stranger only serves as a reminder of the fantastical possibilities the city has to offer.
Tumblr media
“Spandex swinging guy? That’s an interesting description. No, sorry, I haven’t seen anyone fitting that role. Is he a friend of yours?”

“Hm? Yeah, they are.” Gary overheard his question over the red and white colored balls on his belt. Quirking an eyebrow, he can’t help but assume. “Lemme guess, you’re interested in Pokemon.”
Tumblr media
“Not as much as my eight year old self, actually. It’s been a long while since then. Don’t have much time to invest in Pokèmon these days. You must be a big fan if you got those Pokèballs.”
