You know what? I really appreciate wicked not just for the movie itself, but for the healing it allowed me for a small version of myself. The 14 year old version of me who loves things by learning too much and hyperfixates and found solace in wicked for being made to feel "wrong"...only to be made to feel "wrong" for loving that thing as well.
Thank goodness for chances as an adult to reclaim things you loved as a kid
And thank goodness someone finally pushed me to figure out how severe my adhd is/get it treated.

i love how for years hollywood has been like "people just don't go to musical movies, they just don't make money, we HAVE to make them more commercial!" and then wicked came along and proved that actually if you respect the source material and the audience's intelligence and actually fucking try, the money will come

I was like, "I'm not gonna change a word of this script. This is a perfect script. I'm not gonna ruin this movie with my thoughts." But then, on every camera take, Jon our wonderful director was like, "Now do one just for fun. Now do one just you. Like, just something that you would say, off the cuff and ad-lib." And I was like, "Okay, if you want." And then, this man pulled a fast one on me. He used every single ad-lib.

#gonna be real bowen yang finally getting the attention he deserves from a gigantic audience is the win the world needs#he was so funny i was looking forward to him so much and he did not disappoint#fucking hilarious that chu did this-he was absolutely right to include each one#because they weren't just comedy zingers#sometimes yes#but they were consistent to the messaging and character and general student body#he (and shenshen) were the voice for “what is the norm in oz and at shiz” which i never would have thought of as important#until i saw how much things like this contrasted and highlighted galinda's braver and softer moments#she dug her own grave giving the hat out for sure. the hat was petty as hell bc she saw the sorcery book and got jealous#she needed to make good to elphaba for that#but it still took heart and courage for her to do what she did just then#especially considering her whole mo is about popularity and working within the system#so the contrast and pov bowen's improv lines highlighted felt so natural and hilarious to me#oh look it's sam's 4th or 5th wicked post in a row

#a i didn't realize how...eh fiyero felt to me in the og until i saw johnathan bailey play him#(someone said how the movie allowed fiyero to be himself but also space to feel softer and kinder which...yeah.)#(he's fun and stuff don't get me wrong#like all three characters are better for it in the movie bc i can see why gelphie love him and also why he loves each of them#honestly#like fiyero runs from elphaba after the cub scene. she takes it as a rejection of HER obv because he just like ran off#she sings her song staring at him thinking he doesn't care about her...as he is actively looking behind to check and see if she has followed#babygirl no he was running from HIMSELF#you calmed that man just by touching his cheek and he suddenly felt something after a long stretch of “depression through life”#it was too much for him#ALSO i saw why he liked galinda too.#even when they have their private moment at the train with the poppy and make eye contact over glinda's name change#it just...felt. the musical i always felt like they were the audience insert for the cringe we were feeling#the movie? softened it. it was two people who loved her sharing a “she's doing her best even if she doesn't get it” look#while thanking each other#and still not dismissing galinda#or alienating her which is super easy to do in that scene#the trouple i read about in fanfic was actually in front of me#three people who all love each other equally...but who all get the shit end of the stick at some point.#like damn i always was uncomfortable bc it felt like fiyero just was playing with galinda and dropped her when act 2 hit#now i can see what will hopefully happen#which is what i think was intended anyway#where fiyero feels he has to make the morally right choice and make a change in a way that is different from galinda#he found his courage and heart through elphaba (not trying to do a woo pun there but tbh damn) so he can't stay behind...#and try things galinda's way#just like elphaba can't.#galinda has courage and heart#don't get me wrong.#but all three of them have shared experiences and moments of alienation and the whole story makes so much more sense because of it#and takes away some of the cheating ick i always got from how the stage show did it tbh

thinking about how the best case scenario that elphaba can imagine in the wizard and i is that finally someone will come along who will be able to change everything about her. even in her wildest dreams, she views that as her best option.
and then.
along comes galinda. who - after spending an entire night attempting to give her a makeover - settles on: ‘actually, you’re perfect just the way you are. i wouldn’t change a thing. except maybe to tuck a little piece of myself in with you, just there.’
and i just think that’s neat.
