Who is Tessa?
I am currently enrolled in the academic program of International Leisure Management at the NHTV and working at a student sports facility. Furthermore, I often do voluntary work. My working experience exists of a variety of jobs, namely in the facility industry and in sports. I often go to the gym, participate in kickboxing tournaments and love to experience new cultures around the globe. People often describe me as open-minded, active, a hard worker and very eager to learn.
What am I made of?
Being creative and organising are one of my main qualities. Moreover, people describe me as being an extrovert: very open-minded, social, hardworking and having an active attitude towards life: I go an extra mile for things I am passionate about. I work strategically but I always listen to my heart in the process. My certificate in sports is an example of this. After successfully finishing high school with a GPA of 4.0, I decided that I wanted to do a high school exchange to Australia rather than start University. I followed a sports orientated program and although the level of education is higher in Holland, I still decided to follow it in Australia. I felt like it would bring me more knowledge and experience. Nowadays, my year abroad still benefits me in a way that I am more aware of cultural differences and able to find my way in unfamiliar situations and adapt to it easily.
I enjoy staying active and pushing myself beyond limits. Besides my education, I do voluntary work at sports events such as a fitness fair. Moreover, participate in kickboxing tournaments, teach sports classes, go to the gym, compete in obstacle runs and am part of an international student association named Erasmus Student Network. I spend a lot of time with friends and I am always pushing myself into new environments to meet new people.

Pre-University Experience
At high school, I followed the track of Economics and Society in which I graduated in 2016 with a GPA of 4. Prior to my Education at the NHTV, I followed a sports orientated program in Perth, Australia for about a year. I learned how to facilitate a training in different sports, achieved my first aid certificate and learned how to attract people through marketing and design.
University Experiences
In my first semester, we created an event for leisure facility Breepark in the age group of 8 to 12. We had to create it based on the market of the target group and make a tailored-maid event. We then had to design this market this to the audience and the leisure facility. Our product was selected to be the best and Breepark is now working on this product.
In semester two, we created a tailor-made technical experience for Coca-Cola in Merlin Entertainments theme parks. Coca-Cola wanted to increase food and beverage sales with the help of smart products in Merlin theme parks and set the challenge to come with innovative and creative solutions. The innovation proposal consisted of research, the creative process towards the concept with a focus on product development, and details about the product such as human resource, marketing strategies, finances and risks.
Current semester revolves around creating a product for 076fietst which comes down to making internationals in Breda intrinsically motivated to start cycling rather than using the car. We have to market and design in such a way that it influences them without being it too obvious and in a way that it is fun and effective. Our product needs to make a change in the way internationals think about cycling. This can only be done when you have a clear vision of the target group and when you are able to market and design focused on that information.
Experience Besides University
As a side-job, I work for a gym which I independently run on weekend days. I am responsible for managing the trainers, the bar, the reception, the squash courts and sports halls. Moreover, I do promotion work, help members wherever needed, count the cash register and open and lock down the building before and after closing times. As an addition to this, I voluntary followed a course and achieved a certificate in Social Responsibility and I am a qualified Emergency Response Officer. In my free time, I created a concept for a new sports class that I will be teaching at the beginning of January 2018.
The creation of this concept was out of own initiative. I experienced that the group classes mostly existed of girls and overheard the management team saying that they would want to have the boys in there as well. I did research on what males are looking for when they do a certain sports activity and started brainstorming on how this can be mixed with the needs of the females to attract both genders. Then, a product was created including a budget and marketing mix and a pitch was given to the management team. I am currently creating the set-up of the try-out class that will be given mid-January by a friend and myself.
