nothing brings me more peace than knowing that katniss everdeen spends the rest of her life eating warm cheese buns and being held every night by a man who loves her more than life itself. she deserves everything

there is something so 🫶precious🫶 about how when katniss is dreaming about the utopia she wishes upon peeta, it is for his child to be safe.
because that is all she really wanted in the end wasn’t it. to live in a world where children could be safe.
but her life has been nothing but suffering. an antithesis to the paradise of this new, precious world. it isn’t a world she can imagine for herself. a world where survival is not the object, but rather living.
but maybe her lover could make it there. in a place that seems to reflect his glory. the boy who embodies goodness. hope. maybe he can frolic in this new heaven. a place where his children could be safe. maybe he could go there too.
but perhaps the most precious moment of them all, is when katniss realizes that she can go too.

just finished re-reading catching fire and getting little hints of what’s to come in sunrise on the reaping makes me feel so SICKDHDJD!! because what do you mean haymitch and mrs. everdeen are just causally talking about how there used to be brutal whippings all the time in the square???? mrs. everdeen looking at haymitch and saying, “is it starting again?” and he’s just like “yup!” and don’t even get me started on canary’s and ‘dead songbirds’ OH GUYS WE ARE SO COOKED FOR SOTR

Broke: The Katniss/Peeta/Gale love triangle was pointless and akin to Twilight’s Bella/Edward/Jacob
Woke: Katniss choosing Peeta over Gale represented her choosing peace over cruelty, as she was deciding to spend her life with someone who would encourage her to heal rather than ask that she further the cycle of violence. She chose the empathetic boy who was still able to see good and beauty in the world despite everything over the vengeful boy who got lost in his hurt and rage, becoming the thing he hated: someone who would use the lives of children as a means to an end.

“You’ve no right to starve people, to punish them for no reason. No right to take away their life and freedom. Those are things everyone is born with, and they’re not yours for the taking. Winning a war doesn’t give you that right. Having more weapons doesn’t give you that right. Being from the Capitol doesn’t give you that right. Nothing does.” ― Suzanne Collins, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

Lenore Dove.
Lucy Gray.
You have to say both, it’s not Lucy, and it’s not Lenore.

post war. haymitch's birthday is coming up. effie tells peeta. very hush-hush. he gets right to work.
cut to: haymitch suspiciously opening a box and then bawling his eyes out. he gets group-hugged and effie tells him it's okay. he's safe now.

so katniss was the narrator of her own story and now we know that haymitch will get that opportunity, as well. even peeta, rue, and prim (each of them being mockingjays in the own right) have their stories told through katniss, their fellow district citizen, somebody who truly knows and loves them.
but lucy gray—the first mockingjay, the first district 12 victor, the tribute who changed the hunger games forever—is the only mockingjay who doesn’t get to tell her story. she’s reduced to a side character in her oppressor’s rise to power. she was the mockingjay before the world was ready for her, before the “sunrise.”
and yes that’s incredibly devestating, but it’s also fucking remarkable. they thought they buried her, but her music refuses to die. they tried to erase her, but her voice fuels the revolution. against all odds, lucy gray lives on.
