i like to think katniss inspired peeta to be brave (singing the valley song in front of their class, going to the woods with her father where no one else dared go) and peeta inspired katniss to be kind (her dandelion in the spring and the boy who gave her the bread when no one else helped).
kindness can be brave and bravery can be kind.

Suzanne Collins has me deranged.
We know from the Ballad of Song Birds and Snakes that many of the features of the modern Hunger Games are Snow's invention, including those that motivate the districts, like prizes. It's fair to assume he likely came up with the idea for tesserae, it's an easy way to keep the districts well fed while encouraging/forcing participation and general involvement in the games. It's a great reminder, even the food you eat is linked to the games themselves. Tesserae is a type of tile work commonly associated with Romans which Collins draws a lot of inspiration from in her depiction of the Capital. It has also in the past been used as a token. In this case, you take the token of food in exchange for extra names in the bowl. Now that's fucking excellent on it's own, real neat bit of linguistic worldbuilding.
BUT what really gets me, what truly fucks me up is that Snow didn't name it that because he's like a language nerd. Tigris had to use tile buttons, tesserae buttons on his shirt during songbirds because they couldn't afford anything else. Snow inherently associates that material with poverty, specifically with the lack of food he had during that time. As a result tesserae represents poverty starvation and desperation to everyone in the districts. Snow is so god dam self obsessed he imbedded ,intentionally or not , personal fucking references to himself within the districts.
AND THAT is why Collins is so crazy to me that detail is tiny, you truly would not notice and in the grand scheme it's not that important but that's woman is on her shit and she's fucking thinking her thoughts and its genius. HER MIND UGH. truly has me messed.

happy six months until sunrise on the reaping! streets are saying it may... just may... be in plutarch's pov.. PLUTARCH HEAVENSBEE, king of propaganda! that would be soooOOooooOO interesting!
but also, as a tigris snow lover, i can’t help but think about how plutarch and tigris were in communication during the rebellion to the point where he literally trusted her enough to tell cressida that tigris's shop was a safe space for them to stay. i'm not saying tigris might have a bigger role in this book in the case that we’re looking through the eyes of plutarch, but i do miss her and i hope we hear from her <333

I think a lot of people in the fandom don’t give credit to how smart and capable Sejanus actually is.
It gets swept under the rug because a lot of his actions during Parts I and II may seem irrational and impulsive, but that’s only because we’re seeing them through Coriolanus’s eyes, who of course can’t empathize with the misery he’s going through by being forced to participate in the Games (and as a mentor to a former friend, no less); and the way it makes him act that way.
But in Part III? When he’s finally free from the games and the Capitol? He thrives. He instantly becomes friends with his bunkmates, with other peacekeepers, with the Covey. He adjusts to District 12 like he’s always belonged there.
When Coriolanus needed help to find out where Lucy Gray lived, Sejanus is the one that gets the information for him –anticipating Coriolanus himself. Discretely, because he correctly deduces that Coriolanus wouldn’t want other people to know they were looking for her.
It’s also Sejanus the one who gets him to the Covey’s place, taking charge of their trip there, asking around for directions and guiding them through the Seam. We know damn well Coriolanus would’ve never reached the place by himself.
And most impressively, he managed to infiltrate a rebel plot without any of the peacekeepers noticing it. And I’m not counting Coriolanus because the only reason he realized Sejanus was involved in something shady was because he was obsessively watching his every move (and literally went through Sejanus’ stuff behind his back to find some dirt on him). If Coriolanus really didn’t care about Sejanus like he proclaimed to, he would’ve been none the wiser to the rebel plan, just as their other bunkmates and fellow peacekeepers were.
Sejanus knew how to lie, how to play his cards right. Spruce wouldn’t have trusted him with the escape plan if he thought Sejanus was incapable of handling it.
When the murders happen, he doesn’t panic —he’s shocked (understandably so), but he’s able to remain calm.
What I’m getting at is — give my boy his flowers! And recognize that he’s not this helpless, emotional boy who constantly needs saving. That’s what Coriolanus thinks. He was a smart, capable young man who was willing to lie and get his hands dirty for something he believed in. Give him credit where credit is due.

hey hey wait. i find it really strange that the movie villainizes clemensia the way it does?
like. the whole point of that scene is that dr. gaul is crazy and unreasonable and unpredictable, that she's dangerous, and that no one is safe from that danger. clemensia didn't do anything wrong. she was grieving her classmate, she didn't make snow do all the work, it just slipped her mind in the wake of all that was happening. that's all. in fact, he's kind of the weirdo for remembering to do it in the first place. clemensia tells a little white lie to protect her grades, with snow's assistance and consent, and dr. gaul's response to that is neither reasonable nor proportional. it's pure sadism.
why does the movie want us to hate her? it's little details, too, not just having her weasel her way into the assignment in the first place, and then try to take full credit instead of roughly half, but also stuff like dr. gaul telling her the snakes are going to bite her before she sticks her hand in the tank, instead of after, like in the book. it makes her look like an idiot.
like. it's meant to be random, horrific violence. it's meant to establish that dr. gaul will hurt anyone, for any reason, for no reason at all. she'll attack innocent people just to find out what would happen. no one is truly safe from her.
so why is the movie kinda siding with dr. gaul? why is it just like, well, did you ever consider that maybe clemensia is a bitch kind of? you ever consider that maybe she deserved it a little? maybe she had it coming? you ever think of that?
well, no. i can't say i did.

idk about you but to me one of the most devastating parts about rewatching the hunger games after the prequel is seeing how dead the hob is sixty four years later. in tbosas with lucy gray and the covey gracing the stage, it was so full of life and fairy lights and music and dancing and silly goose good times. yet in the thg, the music, the ENERGY, it's all gone :( it's so clear that year after year of those damn games completely stole the SLIVER of happiness district 12 had!!11!!!1!!

Readers/film makers: omg Katniss didn’t care for Peeta at all before the games, or at all in book one. ALL of the romance was an act.
Literally Katniss in book one:
