When will I go back to Destiny?
Let's chat a little bit about video games. I stopped playing Destiny 2 about a year and a half ago. The sun-setting and the un-setting of arms and armour, the transmog system, and the aggressive vaulting of content were the last straws for me.
That being said I have sort of kept up to date with the goings on in the world - I am looking forward to the void subclass rework that should be lots of fun for people. I don't hate Destiny, if anything I miss loving it. I have never had a connection to a game world quite like that one. In fact I have told myself that in a few years, when The Final Shape launches, I will play through the story, provided that Beyond Light is still in the game.
That scares me a bit, because now that it is being described as the set up instead of the first part of the three act story (The Final Shape was added to their plans later, instead of being part 4 it takes the title of part 3 away from Lightfall and relegates Beyond Light to part 0 status), this gives them future justification to remove it, because they'll say it will not be necessary to understanding the three act structure of the following expansions.
I am one of those people who love FFXIV, and one of the things I love the most is that I can experience the complete story, from the main expansions to the inter-expansion patches. It’s all there. I pay my sub and I get everything. With Destiny 2, the price you need to pay is not one of entry, but a cost of keeping up to date. If you want to play Destiny you still have to pay a sub, it just isn't called that.
Paying a sub comes with expectations. It is almost like you are actively investing in the games upkeep and future. A company with subscribers wants to keep their players happy, so they make sure to set a good cadence of content releases and they don't do anything that would disrespect them. Destiny 2 is not beholden to this mind-set because it doesn't have subscribers. It's free to play as well- sorry, sorry, let’s be honest here: free to try. They can remove content from the game at will and they will actually have people defending their actions.
.....I may have gotten a little carried away there. I hope that was all concise enough. I don't like vaulting. I don't think it’s going to go away. Especially seeing as the devs think it adds to the feeling of a living world... But if Beyond Light is still in the game then I am going to go back at some point and experience for myself how much better the story telling has supposedly gotten.

Microsoft E3 2018 Press Conference Thoughts
Another year, another E3, time to post on my seldom used blog! No promises for when this is going to be more active... but we will have to see what the future holds!
So I’ll start by saying I’m not an Xbox guy, I play mainly PlayStation and PC with a bit of Switch thrown in there for good measure. I won’t be making a big post like this for the other conferences except Sony’s and maybe Nintendo’s. I’ll be looking at all the things mentioned out of chronology, but in an order that bundles the similar stuff together.
This time around Microsoft gave us one hell of a show. Forgetting the exclusives for now, as a PlayStation player I was very happy with the showcase. They showed off 15 world premieres of games, some noticeable ones that I’m personally excited for were: The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit (Set in the Life is Strange universe), The Division 2 (they probably feel privileged they got to announce this), Devil May Cry 5 (surprising to see this and other eastern developed games here as I would normally expect this to be revealed at Sony’s show), Jump Force (Blew my freaking mind, a weeaboo gamers wet dream), Dying Light 2 (Again, Xbox got to unveil this, I know PS is scaling back this year but hot damn, incredible), Just Cause 4, and they rounded out the show with a major title that I am very much looking forward to (more on that one at the end!). In brief, WHAT A SHOW. I want all these games *sigh*.
Notable mentions - NieR: Automata is coming to Xbox, Fallout 76 was briefly talked about before Bethesda’s show, Kingdom Hearts 3 will be coming to Xbox (!), Tales of Vespira, Shadow of the tomb raider, Tunic (furry Zelda, looks cute and the world has a nice design, but the design of the player character is meh imo), and I guess I have to put Gears 5 in here somewhere or someone will bite my arm off.
THE GAME PASS, the value of this thing keeps getting better, The Division, Elder Scrolls Online, and Fallout 4 are being added as well as some new tach (machine learning algorithms) that allows your games to start twice as fast. I don’t think the internet infrastructure is in place yet for the future of purely streamed games, but tools like this will probably help it become a stable, staple service sooner rather than later.
Next I want to talk about exclusives, but before I do I’ll put this game (DLC) here as I’m very much looking forward to it, Sea of Thieves Cursed Sails and Forsaken Shores. These next two updates to Rare’s open world PvP pirate game, which I love, should hopefully inject it with some more much needed content (and hopefully not a time limited campaign!).
Xbox’s weakest point has always been its exclusives. After the cancellation of Scalebound and the further delay of Crackdown 3, they had to show us something during this conference to give us confidence in the future of the platform. After all, strong exclusives lead to strong sales, growth, competition etc. And of course, great games all around.
And oh boy did they deliver! FIVE studios have been brought into the fold to increase their roster of First Party exclusives (The quality of these studios can be discussed later, for now let’s just focus on the positives). The first, one formed for the occasion: The Initiative, led by the guy who worked on Tomb Raider. The other four were snatched up as part of a major investment: Undead Labs (State of Decay), Playground Games (Forza Horizon), Ninja Theory (Formally a PS third party dev, they made 2007s Heavenly Sword and 2017s Hellblade), and finally Compulsion Games (Currently working on We Happy Few). Ninja Theory is the big one that will help them the most against the competition, and for the others, the extra money they will receive from being first party will no doubt be a boon to the scope and quality of their games (looking at you State of Decay!).
The exclusive games they did show off were a mix of the highly anticipated and totally unexpected. Battle Toads, a game wanted by the passionate community was show to exist, with a release date of 2019. Session, a new and exclusive skateboarding game was shown. Forza Horizon 4 was shown off, open world, changing seasons, it looks very different to what they have done with the franchise previously. Crackdown 3 was shown to alleviate fears of any more delays (although, anything is possible).
Lastly, before I give my general thoughts, I wanted to give the show opener and closer their own section. They opened the show by unveiling Halo Infinite, the trailer gave vibes of it being a more open world full of wildlife (rhinos anyone??) and a story centred on Master Chief. Other than that and the name, no other info was given, but you can bet it will be taking the series in a new direction. The show was closed, remarkably, by CD Projekt Red’s, Cyberpunk 2077! They have been silent about this game for a while (approx. 2077 days in fact!) because they pride themselves on quality and only showing their stuff when it’s ready. There was no release date given as the game is still in the oven, but I highly recommend you watch the trailer as this is surely going to be one of the best games of the decade.
Of course there are a few things I left out of smaller importance (PUBG was there for some reason?), but, onto my thoughts. I’ll keep this bit brief because I think you can already gather what my opinion is going to be - Holy shit this was the best Xbox conference in the history of Xbox conferences, maybe ever. Awesome exclusives, brand new/acquired studios, game pass improvements, many BIG world premieres, amazing games for everyone; this conference honestly felt like a show for every gamer as much as it did a show for just Xbox fans. I am excited and looking forward to the future of Xbox and the new first party games they will create. This conference seriously impressed me, and E3 has only just begun!
I don’t like thinking of E3 as a competition, but I don’t see how the others can trump this. Bethesda will be the best conference for Bethesda fans, Sony has downscaled, and Nintendo showed all its cards when it won E3 last year. This year has started on a high and I can’t see it getting any higher, which is a great feeling! If the other conferences are anything like this one, this is going to be an incredible E3!

So the Vex tech that’s mimicked from the far past appears to be Cabal in origin if the lower picture is anything to go by (Its from the end of the Arms Dealer Strike). So this could mean a number of things, my theory is that the Cabal empire (as a whole including all the races they have assimilated) turns themselves into the Vex in the future and travel back in time to the far past, and then move forward from there. This could include the human race if we join Callus. The first Vex would of course be the Precursors, which are white and gold in design, a colour scheme which closely resembles the Leviathan Raid loot. I have a lot more thought on this but they will have to wait for another time...

Part 2 – That post I promised about Energy Weapons, also exotics and play styles.
Following on from my first lengthy post I just want to talk a bit about Energy weapons and how they will affect PvE and PvP.
It seems that Energy weapons are going to be kinetic weapons but with an elemental damage modifier on them.
In PvE I can imagine, for balancing reasons and to maintain flow with special weapons from the first game, that ammo for these second primary weapons will not be as abundant as your Kinetic weapon; hopefully this should mean that your Kinetic will (almost) never run out of ammo. They will obviously do more damage to enemies than Kinetic weapons but I don’t know if this will be in the form of just a base damage increase or ONLY bonus damage for matching the element type of the weapon to the type of the enemy shield. It makes sense to think that if the ammo is going to be more limited they should have a base damage increase.
When Bungie initially released Destiny One, Elemental damage would only come into play when attacking an enemy which had the same elemental shield as the elemental damage you were inflicting. (There were Strike (dungeon) modifiers which increased the damage of a certain element making it easier to damage enemies but also easier to die). This did not change with the expansions and would be criticised as being too simplistic and flat in the normal game modes and too much of an artificial challenge in the activities which used the modifier. Elemental damage had no effect on PvP gameplay.
The fact that elemental primaries are now secondary weapons makes it seem like damage types may be more important. I am hoping that elemental damage will affect different races in different ways, even if it just comes down to dealing a bit of bonus damage. An example of this would be Solar (fire) weapons dealing bonus damage against the Hive (Magic space zombies).
If this is not the case then I don’t understand why we have this ‘Energy Weapon’ slot in our inventory. I guess a side effect of having them would be more up time on our abilities (grenades and melee) as we would not be using them to take out shields. Other than that I don’t get it :/
As for how they will affect PvP, I have mentioned in a smaller post that if you are attacking an enemy who is using their Super and you use an energy weapon of the corresponding element type, you will deal bonus damage. When you use a Super in Destiny One you gain increased resistances to attacks so I imagine in Destiny 2 that performing this combo will have the effect of ignoring this resistance bonus.
EXOTICS - I’ll only talk about 3 notable ones
The “best” weapons in Destiny, Exotics are weapons that every Guardian wants. New Exotics were shown off at the reveal including a rocket launcher, currently known as the Dubious Volley, which fires a salvo of swarm missiles from holes on a spherical rocket head like a Suriname Toad giving birth… don’t google that. Another shown off was an Auto Rifle with a mag size of 90 (that’s a lot) which looked and behaved like a hand held mini-gun! Last gun I’ll mention here was the gun of my dreams (I hope to own it ASAP), it’s an insanely cool looking Hand Cannon which blows up enemies when you get a kill. There were many others like a Submachinegun and a Grenade Launcher but you can look them up yourselves.
Weapon Perks
What we saw of the weapon perks can only be described as a positive move from Bungie. The main perk of the weapon is now a descriptor of how that weapon is going to play and is closely tied to the weapon foundry which produced that weapon. For example Suros guns have the ‘Adaptive’ perk which reads “Well rounded, reliable, and sturdy”. Hakke weapons have the ‘Aggressive’ perk which reads “High damage, high recoil”. A third one, possibly not tied to a foundry, is ‘Precision’ which reads “recoil pattern is more vertical”
This is a big deal because in Destiny One if you asked someone the difference between Hakke, Suros and Omolon weapons they wouldn’t be able to tell you. Now that information is right there front and centre and I am so happy about this you have no idea!
A quick rundown of the current three main foundries for the un-initiated: Hakke are harder hitting guns with more recoil, Suros are adaptable and so usually come with sights that can do things like highlight major enemies in a crowd, and Omolon weapons are for min maxers who, for example, might like to make their gun super stable at the cost of lowering range or mag size. Destiny 2 is seeing the addition of a fourth main foundry in the form of Veist which seems to offer weapons with multiple weapon modes? We will have to wait and see if this is accurate.
Lastly there is a mysterious new ‘Weapon mod’ slot on every weapon and nobody knows exactly how it’s going to change how the weapons function, at the end of the day it can only add another layer of game play which is generally a good thing.
In summary I’m still not 100% sure what the point of having an Energy Weapon slot is, the new Exotics look sweet and powerful, and weapon perks seem to have been improved in at least one way. So, mostly good things.

Destiny 2 Thoughts Part 1 – My thoughts on Weapons, thank you for being a bit more like Halo!
First let’s talk what the set up was in Destiny One. You could have three weapons equipped at any one time, a Primary Weapon, a Special Weapon, and a Heavy Weapon; in each of these categories you had space for 9 others, either weapons you might need later or for loot you find out on your adventure. Special and Heavy Weapons could have elemental damage types.
The weapons types in each category were (In idealised range order, close to far):
Primary – Auto Rifle (full auto), Hand Cannon, Pulse Rifle(3 round bust), and Scout Rifle (semi auto).
Special – Shotgun, Sidearm (pea shooter), Fusion Rifle (charges then fires a spread of bolts), Sniper Rifle.
Heavy – Sword, Machine Gun, Rocket Launcher.
In Destiny One Bungie had real trouble balancing the weapons in PvP and because you used the same armament in all game modes their balancing act affected PvE also. Whereas I don’t know for sure if this will be the case in Destiny 2 (from the footage shown I think it will be), they have changed the way your weapons are equipped in order to mitigate some of the problems they came up against when balancing Destiny One.
The weapon types and categories as they will be in Destiny 2 are as follows (ordered the same way):
Kinetic – Sidearm, Submachine Gun, Auto Rifle, Hand Cannon, Pulse Rifle, Scout Rifle.
Energy Weapon - Sidearm, Submachine Gun, Auto Rifle, Hand Cannon, Pulse Rifle, Scout Rifle.
Power Weapon – Sword, Shotgun, Fusion Rifle, Machine Gun, Grenade Launcher, Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher.
I underlined all of the new weapons being introduced and energy weapons are kinetic weapons but with elemental damage.
So how will consolidating the weapons like they have help the balancing act in Destiny 2, and why does it seem more like Halo?
Believe me or not but I predicted the removal of the special weapon archetype and I am very happy they did. Firstly it gives you more opportunities to use the weapon types you like using. In the Vault of Glass raid I would use a Hand Cannon unless I’m fighting a boss who is a ways away, in that case I would switch to a Scout Rifle for better range. Or maybe you just really want to use both weapons. I will write up a second post in the future detailing the implications of the Energy Weapon type and what it could mean for the enemies we face.
Secondly, and most importantly, it places all one hit kill weapons under one weapon type, allow me to explain.
The problem with PvP was that special weapons had the ability to one hit enemy players and the ammo for these weapons was readily available, a fact that I and many others believed to ruin the pacing of the game. In some mettas you just HAD to use a special weapon to remain competitive even if you didn’t want to (I’m looking at you Shotguns). The current patch makes you lose special ammo on death (which is something I agree), with and heavy ammo only spawns once per match.
In Halo, all of these weapons that had the potential to one-hit-kill you were known as Power Weapons and had to be picked up from the map on a first come first serve basis. I bolded the word ‘Power’ in the list earlier to emphasise this point.
You will not have access to a one hit kill weapon at all times in PvP and they will all be expected to insta-kill your target. This means that they can be as overpowered as they want them to be, which will be great for PvE!!!
In short, the balancing act just got a whole lot simpler.

My thoughts on: Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture
I just spent the last two hours playing Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. It was an interesting narrative experience.
I still can't tell if what caused the Rapture was meant to be a good thing or not, and it wouldn't bother me if I was meant to walk away thinking that, but I don't know if that's the case! Am I meant to be thinking that? I dunno!
Either way it's meant to be thought provoking, one of those 'our actions echo throughout eternity' things, at least that's a part of it.
More noticeably were issues concerning morality, science vs ethics, doing something bad for the right reasons, family life and social views. There was also some demonic/satanic imagery going on.
Every character was a different kind of person which is why it was able to include all of these things in a manageable and presentable way.
Two negatives, one the run button is actually a 'walk slightly faster and only in areas we let you' button, and two I found it was really easy to lose the glowing orb of light I was meant to be following. Very annoying.
Final thoughts: it was a good game, deep in places, pretty straight forward in others, at no point was it confusing. Is it better than The Unfinished Swan?? Nope. Is it better than EtherOne?? Yes from a narrative perspective, though I only played half of EtherOne. Would I recommend? Yes I would.
I give it 5.5 Twinkies out of 10.

DESTINY NEWS!
The December update preview is in! Titans rejoice.... for the most part. Subclass Changes: (+ Buff, - Nerf)
ALL + Melee range increased by 12.5%. + Lift Catapult +5% to initial burst velocity.
DEFENDER + Ward of Dawn now recharges grenade and melee abilities on casting!!
SUNBREAKER - MEGA NERF - Hammer of Sol damage resistance lowered by 9.09%. - Hammer of Sol hammer travel speed lowered by 1.32%. - Sunstrike melee DOT decreased from 6.5s to 5.5s. - Forgemaster perk now has reduced splash damage radius multiplier by 20%. - Flameseeker perk hammer tracking bonus lowered by 25%. - Flameseeker perk now no longer has the +1 recovery, and +1 agility stat bonuses. - Cauterize perk now has a cooldown of 3s. + Fleetfire perk now adds +1 to agility stat. + Firekeeper perk now adds +1 to recovery stat.
STRIKER + MEGA BUFF + Storm Fist melee base damage increased by a WHOPPING 18.2%. + Overload perk now also provides faster melee recharge (+50%) + Discharge (that almost pointless AOE melee perk) now has additional damage, increased by 7.69%. + Discharge perks AOE damage telegraph has been changed to a spherical shape (it now damages enemies behind you aswell). + Amplify perk super energy bonus increased by 30%. + Headstrong perk now also provides faster sprint. + Transfusion perk cooldown reduced from 5s to 3s. Unstoppable perk now provides a total of +2 armour instead of +1. + Unstoppable perk now increases your damage resistance by 25% when active. + Juggernaut perk improves your shield health by 14.3%. + Juggernaut perk now also works whilst airborne.
IN SUMMARY Titans no longer have little baby arms. Defenders get a nice bonus for a job well done. Sunbreakers finally take some hits instead of dishing them out. Strikers finally get some love!!!

Construction is coming along great, I cant actually build the main part of it without my partner in crime so I have had to settle with building the area its going to sit in.
The seemingly random floating white blocks are part of the planning process. Using the debug display ( type: /debugtext ) you can see your X,Y,Z coordinates allowing you make precise measurements. My character is sitting about halfway up.
Once its finished entirely I will take multiple screenshots and I will upload a video flyby to YouTube.
In other Trove news, for logging in 60 days in a row you unlock the mount I am currently using, the Striding Starchaser! Its definitely my new favourite. Features include a billowing black mane, blue hoof prints left on the ground behind you when moving, a black smoky contrail (tail) when in motion, and stars in constant twinkle around it. I will see about uploading a short clip of it in motion.

UPDATE: Why the mini-hiatus?
Reasons for desertion
Okay, so if you have been checking my blog you would have noticed I have been gone a while with no explanation!! Fear not, this update will list the reasons why and say what I’m doing about it.
1. It’s hard to start a Blog and keep it going.
I cannot believe how many times over the past few weeks I have wanted to finish the LEGO: JW piece I have been writing or post an update. The thing is I haven’t been feeling it. It’s because I have this grand schedule in my head that I wanted to stick to (the backlog) but other games have been pulling me in, and I haven’t posted about them because I felt guilt over the unfinished LEGO piece.
Long story short from now on I’m going to wing it a bit more to keep things more fun for me. Ill only say what’s coming if I have started writing it.
2. People, they are hard to organise.
LETS PLAY! So here’s the thing, I was starting to write the LEGO piece when my friends showed an interest in doing lets plays. In the past I was going to turn my backlog series into lets plays on the u-tubes but I didn’t want to do them solo, that’s why I switched to a blog format. Now that they have shown an interest I have invested in game cap equipment and am ready to record! However either my friends have no time or we all just don’t feel like doing it when we are together.
I am going to have to motivate myself in the future to record content for my YouTube channel when with my friends so I can simultaneously update YouTube and Tumblr at the same time.
3. Destiny Triumphs
Destiny, AKA my life for the past year. I’m a bit of an introvert and like to play solo, not out of choice but more from lack of social skills. I’m shy. If you have been following Destiny at all you should know that The Taken King is approaching and with it the end of Year One.
To show you have completed everything that Year One had to offer, Bungie have created the Moments of Triumphs challenge. It’s simple, do these 10 things and get a special Emblem (name plate) at the start of Year Two.
I have to complete just two more of these 10 tasks. Kill Crota on hard mode, and Kill Skolas in the Prison of Elders. You kill Crota by completing the games second Raid, a feat which usually requires 6 people, my cousin and I are trying to do it with just 2 or 3. So it’s extra hard! And Skolas involves 3 people of max level. You need 3 or it’s impossible, end of story. My cousin and I are currently levelling one of my aforementioned friends, but it’s taking time. A lot of it.
In short this has been plaguing my existence for the past couple of weeks, if you have Destiny on PS4 and want to play or help me out then send a message. This problem will be sorted in less than two weeks (9/9/15 is the deadline).
4. Trove
Oh Trove, the little MMO that could. I love this game. Love it. It is a free to play MMO and I have done something I would never usually do, for the first time ever I have bought 1 month of the premium service (Patron in Troves case). Say what you will but to me it’s worth it. At the time I started playing, just after my first blog post, I just wanted to get stuck in to the game and have fun without having to worry about creating content for Tumblr.
However now that I have been playing for a while and I am settled I will start to post about it. A lot. I love it so much!!! Just so you know a first impressions post was never going to happen.
5. In the future: Lego piece is coming, backlog, etc.
The LEGO JW opinion piece is currently being written. I refuse to give an estimate for when it will be finished as I don’t really know. The plan to do the backlog is still in place, seeing as I didn’t really get the series going this isn’t too much of a let-down; think of it as being re-released sometime in the near future. It will be even better because there will be links to gameplay vids staring yours truly in each of the posts!

Lego: Jurassic world The Box, and 8th generation box art in general.
I want to start with something interesting I have noticed about the box art in the above image. I own LEGO: Jurassic World on PS4 and it’s currently on top of a stack of other titles I plan to play through. What caught my eye was the binding of the box.
Something I have noticed about other PS4 titles is that they seem to all (or mostly) have a black or white binding with the name of the game printed on it in the opposite colour. I always thought this was because the 8th generation of consoles is going for a more hyper-modern aesthetic, the minimalistic side of the game covers compliments what they are trying to do. Throughout 2015 most games has opted for the white or black binding with their games logo, this keeps it simple without losing any of the flair.
Just to make my point if you were to look at some of the games of the 7th generation (PS3): Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, Starhawk, Grid 2, Dishonoured, Red Dead Redemption GOTY to name a few, their boxes have lot going on. Reds, yellows, blues, and greens; my PS3 collection looks almost like a rainbow on the shelf. The majority did not use black or white.
So coming back to LEGO: Jurassic World, you could imagine my surprise when I see they have broken the trend. They have a colourful band showing the moon, some leaves and charging Lego T-Rex. This is probably done to appeal to a younger audience, and to stand out against other titles. Thinking on it further it may be because Lego games embrace fun and don’t take themselves too seriously; the colourful image subtly reinforces this idea especially when compared against other titles.
So that’s my take on the box art for now. I may come back with another box post in the future if I find anything interesting about the front cover of a future game, or something.
