biography.

catalina maya was born on a hot summer's morning to a young mother and a father she rarely ever knew. her parents had told her she was an accident, a happy one at that, but unplanned and very much unwanted. her mother tried to make things work with just the two of them, but they ultimately ended up moving into maya's grandparent's attic.

the first couple of years of her life were hard, her mother was struggling to find a job to support them both and her grandparents were too old to be chasing after maya and her never ending supply of energy. when it came time for school, maya tried everything to find something to cure her constant boredom, eventually falling in love with making music (or noise as her abuela called it).

her life changed drastically when her mother met the man that would become her stepfather. the only issue was that they were bringing in a child of their own from a previous marriage. maya and her stepsibling butted heads a lot as kids, both used to being the only child.

things got a little better when her stepfather asked to officially adopt her, giving her his last name to match the rest of the family. maya and her stepsibling became close after that, being each other's best friend throughout high school.

when it was time for college, there was really only one option: the berklee college of music in boston. so maya packed her bags and moved to the city, luckily getting in. her sophomore year however, she had to move back to texas to help take care of her dying grandfather. those three years were the worst of her life and when he eventually passed he gave her a large sum of money and the deed to an apartment in boston.

maya immediately moved back to boston, determined to not let her grandfather's gift go to waste. she's gotten a job at dust & grooves, surrounded by music and willing to give out recommendations to anyone that walks in. she also found a flyer for a band needing a drummer and has been playing gigs with them in her spare time.

headcanons.

very much has undiagnosed adhd/add, but refuses to get tested. she claims she can manage it perfectly fine on her own (hint: she cannot and is struggling).

lives off pure spite, caffeine of any kind, and music. without those three things she simply cannot function normally.

can play four instruments: guitar, drums, piano, and the flute (the last one was an attempt to win over a girl who told her she couldn't learn to play in a couple of weeks, maya proved her wrong but lost the girl).

has two poodles named sunny & cher. they're her baby girls and she does in fact treat them like they are her biological children.

would probably be the mom friend of the group, and loves to cook and give leftovers to neighbors. it's her love language (both cooking and giving gifts).
