Normally, Peter might be a little more cautious in trusting someone’s plan right off the bat. Or maybe he thinks he would be, but in reality he’s a lot more inclined to trust people than he likes to believe ( definitely something he needs to work on, he can’t help it, if they’re not a villain he usually wants to be friendly with them! ). Either way, he doesn’t exactly have another plan to try out. 

                                             So her plan it is. 

What could go wrong? 

“Yeah– yeah, guess so. Might be a good way to get him to calm down– at least for a LITTLE bit, so if I’ve gotta attack then he isn’t in like– full on rampage mode.” He’d rather not get pummeled by whatever an elemental is. 

Can this thing even do that? Briefly, Peter wonders about the physics of this particular villain– how does the sand manage to work like that? At face value, it seems as if the grains would simply crumble when coming into contact with anything tangible. But that’s a thought for a time when he ISN’T in the middle of saving a bunch of civilians. 

“Wait– really?!” He’s about to swing over, when she speaks again. “Are you SURE? This guy is h u g e, it’d definitely be dangerous to draw attention to yourself like that.” 

that’s sweet of him, though she supposes that he should get cut some slack as her abilities aren’t apparent . focus on the plan, how to help ...

“ dangerous ? pfft, danger is my middle name ! ”

no !! that’s stupid !

“ i mean, i was gonna need to be registered, if you know what i mean - besides !! what about you, you do this dangerous stuff all the time and no one’s here to help you but you still manage to do a bunch of scary things ! ”

are the accords a universal constant ? she hasn’t really had the opportunity to check, but they almost always have some sort of law relating to listing gifted individuals right ? anyways, he’s clearly not one of the older spiders so this will hopefully be easier to talk her way into . it helps that she doesn’t scream danger or a threat when it comes to trust, but letting someone who seems unthreatening fight ... harder to accomplish . just don’t let him swing off without you when there are people around to prevent you from making a stealthy costume change !

to be fair to him though, now he’s made a pretty clear statement of what he wants from her . but that’s tough, because as much as she’s looking for a way back to her own dimension, she isn’t gonna leave the city just because he wants her out . so much for seeking help from this universe’s spider .

“ listen, don’t flatter yourself, i’m not out to get you . but i’m sorta stuck here for now seeing as i’m a teenager who doesn’t have cash stranded in another dimension . you don’t own the city anyways, so i’ll be around and if we happen to run into each other when something less than savory is happening and we both feel obligated to run some rounds of 1 v 1 then that’s what happens . ”

“you can also talk yourself into situations like this. superpowers or otherwise.” peter already didn’t like her. not that he liked anyone these days. spiders - especially good spiders- got on  his nerves.  they managed to grind his gears to no end. always something about ‘doing good’ or  asking about ‘how he fell so far’.honestly, most of the situations he found himself in made him more leery about others. they always seemed to have one track minds; even to the point of forcing their world view on on  himself - something that he hated most of all.

“so, let’s come to an agreement of sorts.” maybe that wasn’t the best way to put things. maybe he should have just kept his mouth shit, but peter parker was known for getting himself into these shitty situations. he’d get himself out of them just as easily (even if it did require far more work on his part). “you avoid me, i avoid you, and no one ends up webbed to the empire state building.”

“ i guess it depends on what kind of firepower someone’s toting . as much as i’d like to think that a clever plan and fast moving feet could beat any problem, this isn’t an episode of doctor who . although you could’ve fooled me, with all the doubles and universe-hopping . ”

perhaps consider not aggravating the other in an attempt to hold conversation ?

perhaps . but she couldn’t help but feel an insistent itch to convince him she was worth more than a bit of disdain . sue her, being a teen girl with powers bestowed upon her by the universe made the situations where she was underestimated in her daily life twice as frustrating . if she was a bit sensitive to being brushed off, well, who wouldn’t be .

Pilar’s enthusiasm was infectious and he perked attentively, eager to hear of it. Too often were those who were too willing to dismiss the experiences of the younger generation, but he wasn’t among them. Not when even the wise could learn from the young minds of the universe. 

“Yes, there must be. We live in quite an amazing universe, don’t we?”

He listened to Pilar indulgently, clasping his hands together but still leaning into her conversation. To be this young again, untouched and still so new to seeing through the eyes of the universe. It was a sort of outlook he could only hope to maintain despite being nearly a century old. 

“Rock and stone, and destructive? That sounds quite perilous. But, if he’s a good storyteller, I’m sure it must be worth it. Does he have a name? I’ve met beings so old that they’ve forgotten theirs, or speak in tongues no one can understand. It’s quite fascinating.”

“ it’s a little overwhelming being able to just ... go and explore it all . but it is well worth it . ”

despite having trouble believing that he ought to take her seriously, deep down she reveled in being able to share her stories with someone else who was more acquainted with what pilar must face as required by her granted title , although his genuine interest also helped . obvious curiosity fills her gaze as he responds, telling her of briefly of his own experiences . she answers his questions first however, resisting the urge to derail her own report in favor of hearing more about his .

“ he was certainly a bit of trouble, but he was just ... distressed . he told me to call him ‘ mark-o, ’ though he seemed a bit unsure if that really was his name . he remembers a lot but his own history is sort of muddled . i think ... i think something bad happened to him before . ”

owch, who gets offed by the snap ?

i think it probably follows a lot of the known version of events, with mostly the differences being in character interactions and ability to influence the situation .

two of the biggest powerhouses are the cosmic spider and the sorcerer supreme, and team space donut is still very much intact except that all three already knew each other on individual terms . Pilar has worked and often clashed with the sorcerer supreme, and knows separately her civilian identity while knowing iron man professionally, iron man knows the sorcerer supreme both in and out of her role as a close friend, and Doctor Strange knows them both personally and in their hero personas though not that pilar and the cosmic spider are one and the same .

that might not be the best way to communicate that sort of complicated situation ? but the agreement to stand against thanos with the time stone is made, since those gathered are very confident in their abilities .

ANYWAYS BACK TO THE ACTUAL Q

i guess its sorta a cop-out but the same people are dusted, it is just that the character relationships are different . iron man is a lot more torn up about doctor strange since they were close friends and the angst he has over the spider hero is more due to knowing how young she was and that despite her universe given responsibility he should’ve tried harder to prevent it . MJ survives, her aunt survives, Gwen(dal?) is dusted . JJ lives, to rant conspiracies another day.
