In hair color, what does BN stand for? For example, 7BN.
I have to say I'm not really sure. All I can think of is that it's specifying it's Blond and Natural, but that doesn't make sense since 7 is getting into the blonds by definition. It's not a code that Aveda color uses so I don't recognize it.聽
Any followers know?

How far in advance did you have to apply for the semester you wanted to attend? I am planning on applying to an aveda school to attend next year, and want to know how far ahead I should begin preparing, visiting, etc.
I went in to tour the school on I think July 3rd, and they offered me classes that started at the end of the month! My institute starts a new class every 5 weeks, so there's basically always an opening.

I have no personal experience with technical schools. BUT. I have heard and seen a few things:
- I have a friend who went to a career center for cosmetology during high school - she is now employed but is seriously struggling to find clients.聽
- A student at my Aveda was friends with someone who graduated and was hired instantly by a Sport Clips (or someplace similar) because she was able to do things the other stylists (ones from tech school) had barely ever heard of.
- Biased info provided directly from my Aveda: they tell me that going through the program is like getting two years of salon experience, and that they place 97% of graduating students in jobs.聽
Basically, I'm sure that you could get there either way - but I'm thinking it might be faster/easier with Aveda. Obviously a technical school would be cheaper, though, so it's really all about where you're at in life right now. Good luck!

I'm starting cosmetology school in January, any advice? Or just tell me your favorite part? Thanks:)
Make flash cards to remember the terms.
Being on time is a really big deal.
Razors and marcels are the worst thing ever at first, but it gets better.

I'm planning on studying at Aveda and maintain my job. My Aveda schedule would be 9-4/8:30-3:30. Would you say they promptly start and end classes consistantly or until everyones work gets done? Thanks :D
Classes definitely begin and end like clockwork, since the program is based on the amount of hours you're there. When you're on the floor there is always the possibility that you'll get a pain the butt client who makes you redo things a dozen times and obviously you can't clock out till they leave. But I wouldn't worry about it.

No matter what happens with an unhappy client, do not blame them and remain calm. As hard as it may seem, it's just the best way to deal with them.

When I was in school, I had one girl come in wanting a radical change. I offered her several tamer options but she was hellbent on something dramatic. I completed her color and she screamed and cried. A week later, I got a call from her at school telling me she loved it and that she was mine "forever." She's still a handful but it was nice to see a nightmare client can also be a really great experience.

Have you ever had to deal with an unhappy customer? How are you supposed to handle a customer yelling at you for not getting it right?
I'm not on the floor for another couple of weeks, so I'll let the followers answer this one!
