𝚁𝙾𝚈𝙲𝙴  ,  𝙹𝙴𝚂𝚂𝙰𝙼𝚈𝙽  .

During the first six months that Jessamyn had been in King’s Landing, she had not sought to look for a godswood in the Red Keep. It had been easier to believe that Queen Daenerys destroyed it when she destroyed King’s Landing in her first fabled bought of madness. Surprise had greeted her when she had stumbled upon the acre of woodland, and Blackwater Rush beyond. It quickly became a refuge for them, a place where peace reigned supreme, where the laws of man held no sway and never would.

It is this refuge that Jessamyn seeks, even if only to catch their breath. To kneel before great oak that served as the heart tree and pray. Though perhaps vain to hope so, still they prayed that the old gods might turn their eyes to southern Westeros. The sound of footsteps breaks her from her reverie, and without turning to see who it is, she plainly states, “Some days it’s hard to believe this place withstood the fury of a dragon. Tell me, is it vain to believe the old gods willed it so? That they may be taking in interest in southern Westeros at long last?”

                𝙷𝙴𝚂𝙸𝚃𝙰𝙽𝙲𝙴  .   “    apologies  ,  my  lady    ---    i  did  not  mean  to  disturb  you  . . .    “    her  voice  is  proper  ,  yet  cold  . . .  she  had  not  expected  company  here  . . .  of  all  places  .  she  gestures  for  her  maid  to  stay  back ,  as  she  lowers  herself  onto  a  rock  ,  facing  the  direction  of  the  lady  :  if  you  could  call  it  that  . . .    “   well  ,  it  was  southern  westeros  that  traded  them  in  for  the  seven  ---    ”    she  has  no  patience  today  for  a  discourse  in  faith    ---    or  daft  little  hopes  for  the  south  ,   ice  blue  gaze  shifts  towards  the  makeshift  heart  tree  .  “    have  you  always  kept  faith  with  the  old  gods  ,  my  lady  ?   ---   the  godswood  is  usually  a  quiet  place  .    “

𝙰𝙻𝙻𝚈𝚁𝙸𝙾𝙽  ,  𝚁𝚈𝙾𝙽  .

nothing clears his head better than time spent in the courtyard with a spear in his hand. god’s kiss, the spear he’s been using since he was twenty-one years old, feels like a mere extension of himself at this point. the valyrian steel head glints in the sun as he moves with an ease that he’d mastered years and years ago, spear gliding through the air in slow, deliberate motions. he lets his mind drift away, not thinking much at all about the complete nonsense that was going on in the southern kingdom’s capital, of all the fingers getting pointed in multiple directions. none of it concerned him. he’s unsure how long he stays like that, going through slow motions first, before all out attacking the target dummy in front of him in deliberate strokes. he doesn’t stop until there’s sweat pricking at his skin and he notes that he’s no longer as alone as he had been before. he swings his spear upwards to rest across his shoulder. “i was going to take rest for a moment, but you’re welcome to join me afterwards.”

          𝙷𝙴  𝙷𝙰𝚂  𝙱𝙴𝙴𝙽  𝚆𝙰𝚃𝙲𝙷𝙸𝙽𝙶  .    he  has  seen  his  fair  share  of  spearmen ,  but  none  so  enrapturing  as  this  man  ---  it  is  not  as  if  he ‘ s  practicing  for  a  fight ,  as  much  as  for  a  dance  .  one  between  man  ,  and  spear  ---  he  does  not  know  this  man  ,    but  he  wants  to  :   he  is  about  to  approach  him  ,  when  the  man  notices  him  back  ---    “    𝚢𝚎𝚜  ,  𝚊  𝚛𝚎𝚜𝚝  !    ---    i  could  use  one  ,  as  well  . . .    “  he  rubs  the  back  of  his  neck  .  “  i  know  of  an  inn  nearby  ---  just outside  the  keep  .    ”  he  speaks  to  the  man  as  if  they  have  known  eachother  for  a  lifetime  ,  not  mere  seconds  ago  ---  but  he  has  no  reason  to  distrust  someone  practicing  within  the  keep  ,  does  he  ?  “    they  serve  good  chilled  mead  there  ---  for  the  south  at  least  ---    “  he  jests  ,  all  in  good  humour  .  “    i  will  buy  you  your  fill  of  it  if  you  can  teach  me  how  to  wield  a  spear  like  that  ,  my  good  man  .   ”

three .  and  though ,  childhood  ends  with  the  changing  of  the  seasons  ---  summer  fades ,  and  winter  comes  .  but  the  very  essence  of  the  youngest  of  the  tullys  remains  the  same  :  sanguine  :  easy ,  careless  ---  free .
