Divina read the invitation over and over. She had no idea who the hell this Corin Deeth was or what Kakos Industries was all about, nor was she sure that she cared. For all she knew, this was going to turn out to be another business meeting with some stuffy CEO that mistakes her for a secretary or assumes she doesn’t speak English or some other nonsense. Regardless, it would be rude not to show up. 

She arrived promptly at 12:15 at the Kakos Industries facilities, looking absolutely immaculate. Might as well get this over and done with, she thought.

Corin was suppressing the urge to weave his way through the crowd and escape the bloody hellhole he had ventured into. At the same time, the disgusting mess was entirely intriguing. What better way to create evil than to trap people in a world of terror using nothing but social conventions and mild intimidation tactics?

Vanessa, or her double, whichever one she might have been, seemed far more terrified than Kevin seemed to care to notice. He silently placed his bets on her being a double. After all, most of the city's residents seemed perfectly content in the blood and gore.

All of that was simply trivia anyway. Corin was careful to pay attention whenever their Smiling God was mentioned, typing out notes on a smartphone. Gods were always something to look out for when considering a takeover.

Corin glances around, taking in the red dripping from the walls with masked disdain and fully unmasked interest. There is a thick smell in the air, but he can’t quite identify it. He allows Kevin’s question to go unanswered. Some may know about Strex, but he keeps the small bit of knowledge he has to himself.

The dark words concerning the intern intrigue him. It is not unusual for those working under him to take similar tones when speaking about worker bees who chose to disobey. Perhaps he will not have to change much at all.
