My project is based on using memes to accurately and effectively depict the emotional trip I have gone through the course of the semester. As a modern kind of visual story - memes let me use comedy, relatability, and cultural significance to convey difficult feelings. As I discovered how powerfully memes appeal to me, they capture feelings and circumstances in a way words or photos cannot, this change from an image collage of me to a meme-based collage emerged. My project's specific goal was to link my personal experiences with generally identifiable emotions caught in meme culture, therefore offering a fun but honest reflection of the ups and downs I've navigated. This work captures a purposeful and careful preparation and development process. Originally just thinking of a personal collage, I developed the idea as I saw memes' expressive power. I created a living record of my emotional condition by saving memes that spoke to me at particular times across the semester. Using insights and fresh ideas as they came to my mind, I went back over and polished my choices of memes to get the final collage which shows both variety and cohesiveness. This repetitive process enabled me to create a polished and interchanging work that feels complete and deliberate, showing how creativity develops.
