Hi!
A million years ago (really, it was 2011). I discovered that I didn’t know how to cook. And so began the discovery of combing food + heat to create magic!
As you can imagine, in the beginning, the magic got a little lost on its way to me. I lived off under-cooked eggs and carrot sticks for the first couple of months. AND BOY - do I dislike (plain) hardboiled eggs now. One too many under-cooked eggs. Carrots, my friend, I still like you.
Living in a developing country, I had no idea what I was doing and I was constantly scoured around for ingredients with a limited set of tools. I even had to call a friend to ask how long I’m supposed to cook a potato. I was a total NEWB.
Of course the internet was limited and to my dismay, ALL THE RECIPES on the internet (okay - not quite all) required tools (i.e. an oven) or ingredients (cheese, for ex) that I just simply could not find. And often times, recipes became quite complicated.
Anyways, this spawned a lot of period searching and trial by fire to discover the magic of cooking. I often thought to myself, HOW MANY WAYS CAN I COOK EGGS? Just for the record, there are many more ways then boil, scrambled, and fried.
That was the beginning of a dream to have a blog full of easy recipes for when you don’t have a full kitchen, for when you have just a scant amount of ingredients, and when you just need a little extra help.
Thankfully, I’ve come a ways since then, I found the cooking (baking) magic and my husband doesn’t run the other way when I cook. So to my past self, to the new cooks, to the Peace Corps Volunteers out there, and to anyone else on the quest for ingredients + heat = magic....here’s to you.

(And yes, you can make brownies without butter. But with butter is so much better).
