I am officially able to announce the start of our webcomic, Muted! To get you guys involved, we’ve decided to host an OC contest. This is going to be a lot of fun and we’re excited to get things going! 

Reminder- you can always become our Patron for early access to comic pages and updates before their public releases! Supporting us ensures more consistent updates in general, as it allows us to spend more time doing what we love!

WITCH DETAILS The Seven Families making up the Louisiana Coven have a tenuous peace between them. Magic is inherited by the women of these families, and they are soon taught the intricacies of Summoning demons and spirits to make pacts with. In return for favors and wishes granted by these demons, the Witches reward their otherworldly patrons with sex, blood, or sacrifices. Until a Witch is an adult though, she focuses on summoning and strengthening a Familiar, to act as her eyes, ears, and confidant throughout her lifetime.  Different Families specialize in different magic techniques and spirits, and they guard their secrets with pride. While it is taboo to ever try and forge a relationship with the dangerous monsters they call into their world, it IS commonplace, and widely expected, to use them for personal gain. 

RULES ((YOU MUST BE 17+ TO ENTER DUE TO MATURE THEMES))

Your Witch must be designed for this webcomic. Please do not use one of your already made OCs in a different costume, for example. Must be unique to the Muted universe!

Your Witch must be a member of one of the Seven Families. You can find the description for all the families in the Coven as well as their moodboards, values, pinterest idea boards, and brief histories HERE.

Witches must be *female, as their magic is only inherited by women for most Families (*non binary witches and trans witches, however, are very welcome as long as they identify with female pronouns! *Cis and trans male witches can only be found in the LaCour Family, and you are invited to design for them as well if you wish!)

All sexualities, disabilities, body shapes and races for the Witches are welcome! 

BE RESPECTFUL! Please use the pinterest and mood boards thoughtfully- Witch designs may not be harmful or racist stereotypes!

Feel free to design a Familiar for your Witch as well, as long as it adheres to the animals associated with their Family motif! Not required.

ALL ARTIST LEVELS WELCOME! We don’t expect everyone to be super high level artists or anything, we’re looking for creativity in your concepts, not your artistic skill. If you’re not confident in your art skills please do not let that hold you back from entering!

You may enter up to 3 Witch OCs for judging! If you want to swap out any Witches you’ve done with new ones, you may do so by privately messaging us BEFORE the final deadline!

You must hold the rights to your entry picture! If it is a picture you commissioned from another artist that’s fine, but tell us so that we can include the proper art credit!

APPLICATIONS

Submit your Witch to this blog as a photo submissions, follow the directions on the submit page

PRIZES

First place will be given to our favorite Witch! They will get portraits of them drawn by both of us, featured in the webcomic, and have a guaranteed speaking roll!

 Second place will be given to 3-5 Witches (depending on how many apply), who will all feature in the webcomic and get a portrait done by one of us!

The top 10 Witches will receive small surprise packages from us in the mail! The contents will include some original art of your character as well as a few secret gifts to show our gratitude! (Shipping is limited to the USA. To avoid safety concerns, dietary restrictions and allergies, no food or candy will be included)

Are You a Late Sleeper? What Does That Really Mean About You?

As far back as I can remember, I have struggled to get out of bed in the morning. School started at the ungodly hour of 8 am and when I was older, all my places of employment expected me to show up promptly at the 8 O’clock hour. That meant I was hitting the snooze button from 530 am to 615 am hoping I’d want to get up by the time it started to get light outside. It never worked. Not once. I would drive to work with one eye open and wish someone would make a workday that started at 11 am.

If you are one of these night owls as well, fear not. You are not necessarily lazy; in fact, it may be a sign of higher intelligence and greater creativity.

Day Time, Night Time, Anytime

The world works in a daily cycle. We have a day/. If you weren’t sleeping, you would likely be a meal for a hungry lion.

Night-owls and other nocturnal species are prepared for the darkness with their night vision. It is when they are most active and hunt their prey.

According to a study in the Personality and Individual Differences Journal, there is some genetic component to an individual’s predisposition of preference to morning or night wakefulness; it is largely an individual choice and decision. That means that we decide if we are going to stay up late or get up early.
