For the first time in my recollection I saw myself in the mirror and did not recognize the person staring back at me.

I tried to convince myself that it was me but something seemed very very different. Ugly even. Was it me seeing myself as other people do or how I think about myself?

Her eyes were hard and when she lay on the bed she had a strange little smile on her mouth as if she finally understood something that had always eluded her.
