‘fixed’ section and elevation
Ended up putting the SketchUp model into the VR testing space and I was really please with how light, open, and big the island building felt. Was fun

PROSPECT -  noun
noun: prospect; plural noun: prospectsˈprɒspɛkt/
1. the possibility or likelihood of some future event occurring."there was no prospect of a reconciliation" synonyms: likelihood, hope, expectation, anticipation,
4. an extensive view of landscape."a viewpoint commanding a magnificent prospect of the estuary" synonyms :view, vista, outlook, perspective, panorama, aspect, scene,
PROSPECT - take 4 - a mix of the previous takes
plan, section, perspective, elevation
edits from draft; took the advice of only having one island instead of two, made the underwater tunnel a bit smaller, kept the shrubbery on top of the island building, added beanbag chairs into the building for that comfiness (yellow ones ‘cause joy), and lastly got rid of the old stairs and made news ones despite SketchUp freezing every two minutes (literally).
Also played with the idea of people being able to have access to the top of the island building but ultimately decided that that sort of clashed with my whole ‘sheltered, cozy, warm and comfortable’ thing, although it definitely would have added a nice touch to the adventure of it I suppose.
As well of all of that I took the suggestion of keeping the island shape a bit more rather than going fully abstract but I still did minimalise it down quite a bit - this was partly due to practicality and partly due to aesthetics. Am liking the sort of futuristic sci-fi feel

TAKE 4: Draft idea
For my fourth take I decided that I would take different aspects of the previous takes - in particular the first take ‘land’ and the third take, ‘te moana’. How I planned to do this was to take my idea of the underground/underwater tunnel thing but instead of having it as the main feature, rather I would use it as a means to get to another two buildings/usable sculptures situated out in the water. The new buildings would be based on the islands/land mass things that are seen on the coast of Onaero, Taranaki where I grew up (this is where the Land Mihimihi aspect comes into it). These islands are there just because of erosion basically, and have no purpose other than looking cool and being an interested scenic feature. I love the way they look, and so I took my inspiration from them for the two new buildings.
The two new buildings out in the sea would partially be made of glass the entire way around. The purpose of this and these two buildings would be to have a 360 degree view of Wellington’s harbour. It would be a leisurely place with comfortable furniture inside. I wanted to create a nice open space where people could enjoy the views while being comfortable, cozy, and sheltered despite the typically bad weather that Wellington has. People could use this space for whatever they liked really. Ideally there could even be free public WiFi.
People would start off in the current Gelato store building, walk down some stairs into the glass tunnel (with sky light for a more open feeling and for natural light), walk through the tunnel, then walk up some stairs into the island-like building where they would have a full view in an open high ceiling room.
I also played with the idea of having a structure on top of the water to walk on and access the building but decided that and underwater/underground thing would be much more interesting and also more sheltered. I also liked the idea of people initially being confused as to how people got inside the building out in the water rather than it being immediately clear. It would add excitement when one realized that you had to go under sea level to get there. A little bit of adventure if you will.
Mainly what I wanted to focus on was keeping as many places as possible sheltered. I personally hate wind and I’m also not fond of being rained on, so, the more places that are sheltered in Wellington the better in my opinion. However, I still wanted it to be a nice open and interesting structure.
When I started working on making the island buildings themselves, I had difficulty replicating the Onaero island land masses and so started experimenting with the idea of a more geometrical and abstract shape. Whether or not I would stick to this idea I wasn’t sure.
(structures are shown separately at the moment because SketchUp couldn’t handle the jandal of too many things)

TAKE 3 - Te Moana
This was the very first idea that popped into my head, though I shall be developing other ones due to this one not working out quite so well.
Sort of failed attempt and creating an underground and underwater feature to the Gelato store (and removing the walls and part of the door for access inside) but unfortunately it seems that the glass clearly isnt sealed well because the water is infact coming inside when I really hoped that it wouldn’t. This was however still fun to create and an idea that I like but overall it seems to have a few issues (as well as not being able to really cleanly enclose the underwater feature while still supporting the building with land). I have a few theories of how I could fix these problems but potentially would like to explore other ideas.
Still was fun though.

TAKE 2
Shows the general idea and the 3D model of the space. Would have liked to add a footpath and / or road and carpark, as well as perhaps more bird life but twinmotion was starting to strain and lag a bit
I’ve also realised that the actual site of the area does not have much of anything to do with the actual Oriental Bay site so that’s not so good but the gelato shop layout was kept roughly.

TAKE 2
joy - The general idea of this was to base it off of different qualities of the site in New Plymouth where the lights festival is held each summer holidays - such as the landscape - as this is a place that has a lot of fond memories for me. Originally I wanted to emulate the actually lights of the lights festival but it wasn’t working out so well due to technical struggles (I definitely want to have another go at it though). I also wanted to keep the shape of the Gelato shop building but change it into a café as that fit the idea a bit more. There are a lot of things I would have liked to fix and change and ideas I would have wanted to develop but unfortunately I ran out of time.

Bit of a muck around
This was my first try on Twinmotion - it’s super sketchy and needs a ton of things fixed but this was extremely fun to play around with. Really awesome software.

TAKE 1
The land
Was unable to add anymore of the flower bush overgrowth due to Sketchup gettin’ all overwhelmed and freezing. Shall be trying to work out a way to avoid this next time.

TAKE 1
The land - Onaero, Taranaki
Some photos from google images and a couple taken by myself but the main thing I want to play around with is the idea of ‘overgrown’ because the land of the farm itself that I grew up on is quite overgrown with all sorts of stuff from grass to trees to lichen on the rickety looking buildings. The entire place is in a valley and in general is quite a natural area. It is however right by a main road.
Here’s a pigeon coop with a toilet inside that we had to use when there was flooding in the river. As you can see it’s extreeemely overgrown.
