Okay, Luke.
First of all, the things he taught Percy. Those lessons he gave him in the woods of the rules of gods and heroes. He said them to get Percy to see the truth: The gods aren't all powerful and they don't give a shit about their kids. And he isn't wrong! However, as true as they are, the way he meant them wasn't to try and prepare and protect Percy. It was to sway him into joining Kronos. The main difference I saw in this episode in comparison to the books was how much more sense it made on screen and how Percy understood this.
Throughout his quest, he experienced the attitude of the gods and how easily they turn on you, he understood where Luke was coming from and why he wanted to get rid of the gods. In the books, Percy doesn't start to sympathize with Luke until HOO, where he is tired of being the gods' pawn. It being shown much earlier honestly kind of shocked me.
Second, his face when he realized Percy was about to find out what he did. He looked regretful, he hadn't wanted him to find out that way. Find out that he was planning on sending him to Tartarus just to help Kronos. His intention isn't to hurt the demigods, it's to liberate them. That is why the prophecy line is "betrayed by the one who calls you a friend" because to Luke, Percy was a friend. He took him under his wing and is doing what he thinks is best for the demis. Luke never meant for Percy to be his enemy. He hadn't wanted to fight him, and neither had Percy (that "I'm sorry!" haunts me)
Another point, his relationship with Hermes. The first season revealed a lot of Luke's past unlike in the books where we don't find out much about him until The Last Olympian. It is bad enough of a trigger for him that it is that which makes him attack Percy. Until then he only had Backbiter out to show Percy its abilities. The mention of Hermes was enough for him to not only attack Percy but also tempt him into killing him.
The final thing, Annabeth being there when it was revealed he was the traitor. The anguish in her face at seeing what he had done and was about to do. The shame in his at seeing that anguish. And Annabeth herself stated that she had heard everything, implying she had been there the whole time. It makes me wonder when it was that the realization hit her. Was it when Percy accused him? Or was she ready to whip off the cap and defend Luke? During what part of their confrontation did she freeze and had to face the reality that her brother had betrayed camp? Betrayed her? The realization that he had also been ready to kill Percy (because we all know how a trip to Tartarus at his age would have ended). Did the thought of what his reaction would have been if Percy had given HER the shoes run through her head? Annabeth lost her sister to death when she was seven. This was the moment she realized that she had lost her brother too, to himself.

I FINISHED THE EPISODE
Okay. Let's get into this. This is just gonna be me ranting about everything I noticed.
First of, the fight with Ares. Like, I knew what the outcome was but seeing it in the screen? Amazing. The way you can see how outmatched Percy is between the two. He can't rely on his fighting skills, on his mortal side ( the skills he has honed and practiced). No, he had to rely on his heritage as Poseidon's son to win. When he told Ares he was gonna find out who he was if he kept fucking around? He meant it.
And the look on their faces when Annabeth gave Percy her necklace for luck? OH MY GODS!!! I was dying! My ship is sailing
The "talk" with Zeus, too! I was at the edge of my seat, wondering what was going on. Through the beginning of it, I kept thinking how Zeus seemed to chill and in control to me, and then when he's suddenly about to explode and his eyes are popping out of his head? Yep, that's when I really saw it (kudos to the actor) And he's such an asshole too! Just how Zeus is in the books, talking down to Percy and demeaning him.
But this is also when I really saw that insolent part of Percy's character. When he gets so frustrated by Zeus refusing to see what is infront of him and refusing to get off his high horse that he snaps at him. "He's gonna come back and put you back in your place" The fact that this made Zeus try to kill him shows a big part of the gods character. They don't truly care about heroes. The smallest slight justifies murder to them. It is the difference between the gods and demigods. The demigods remained anchored by their mortal sided.
This being the first meeting between Percy and Poseidon also has such a big impact in their relationship. In the books, it was, "Your birth was a mistake" but now the first thing between them is Percy being saved by Poseidon when he could have easily let him die. Also the way we can see the struggle in Poseidon in having to give to keep the peace. Having to satisfy his brother's ego to keep him from killing Percy. He hates it. But knows it is the only way to avoid a war that would serve no purpose but show the extent of Zeus's pride.
Okay that was a lot. Imma make a separate post about Luke cuz that's a whole different can of worms.

Okay so, I just watched the latest PJO episode and I'm sorry but can we talk about the parallels between Thalia's sacrifice and Annabeth staying in the fields of asphodel?
Like seriously, they both stay back and tell their friends to run, they are both turning into a tree, they are both being chased by monsters, and they both aren't very sure they'll be fine (cuz I honestly don't believe Annabeth didn't have at least some doubts about Percy's dad, like she's seen how the gods have been so far during their quest) and sure Annabeth ends up being okay and Thalia isn't but I honestly feel like it's a reference (even if not on purpose) to how Thalia could've survived her fate is she'd had a little godly assistance ( and no, being turned into a Christmas decoration does not count)

IT CAME OUT EARLY
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just finished watching it. IM IN LOVE
*spoilers*
GROVER SWEARING TO PROTECT PERCY❤️
CLARISSE SCREAM WHEN PERCY BROKE HER SPEAR (AHHHH!)
PERCY PROMISING TO MAKE POSEIDON NOTICE HIM AND SALLY ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love how they so clearly showed Percy's friendship with Luke because it is one of the main reasons his later betrayal hurts so much. And they captured it perfectly.
Like, there is sooo much I loved from the first two episodes and I am dying to watch the rest. This is what happiness feels like 🥹
I'll probably post more of these talking about specific scenes but for now I'm just too excited for that

how careful Kane Chronicles characters are when opening portals
Zia: has all the auspicious and inauspicious moments memorized. yes, she’s a ware that there are hundreds, what part of “she has them all memorized” did you not get?
Carter: keeps a calendar in the Duat, knows the big ones. isn’t as die-hard as Zia but opening a portal at the wrong time can kill you.
Walt: one of the perks of having a god in his head is that Anubis will warn him if he’s about to blow himself up. he could learn himself but why bother?
Sadie: gives no shits. just starts chanting, if she dies it isn’t her problem anymore

This is soo true. And my girl couldn't catch a break either, she went from an absentee father and brother and a dead mom to being an orphan. And people might say she's immature but she was 13 and having to save the damn world without much support other than her brother who was only two years older. Yet people expected her to have the maturity of an adult while treating her like a child. Through it all though, any time she showed she was upset or unhappy, she'd be called childish for struggling with losing her father, reconnecting with the brother she was separated from, being possessed by a Goddess, and having to save the world (this too while watching the dude she liked slowly die because of an ancient curse and being unable to help him) . Like no, if I was in her shoes I would've thrown way worse a temper tantrum than she ever did. Honestly, she goes through so much but is still called immature while going through said shit? Forget not being pharaoh, that would've been my villain origin story
I do sometimes think about all the smaller ways Sadie has been let down by other characters.
I think about how she was too young to understand that her grandparents tore her away from her father and brother.
I think about how she internalized that as abandonment by her dad, and that scar never went away even when she was old enough to understand.
I think about how she was in a bad mood at the beginning of the first book because most of the time with her dad was already gone.
I think about how she initially perceived her dad taking her and Carter to the British Museum as prioritizing his work over being her dad.
I think about how Sadie questioned if her dad and brother even still loved her.
I think about how she's always the one to be unfailingly loyal.
I think about how she trusted Bast when a magician accused Bast of abandoning her duty.
I think about how she believed Amos was in control of Set's power at the climax of the third book when everyone else doubted.
I think about how she still visited Bes's comatose body, despite not liking places like hospitals and nursing homes.
I think about how no one really extended her the same.
I think about how her grandparents didn't fight to keep her at home with them in Britain.
I think about how Carter chose to go after Zia instead of going with Sadie to find the book of Ra.
I think about how that made Sadie cry.
I think about Sadie, who feels abandonment extremely acutely, was forced to sacrifice her dad.
It's just something I think about.

Sadie and Carter: When have we ever done something reckless or irresponsible
Bast, Bes, Amos, Zia, Walt, pretty much everyone who has ever had to deal with these two: Would you like that in chronological order or alphabetized?
